thanks M, but just to clarify - is that 2.5 days to drop to 0, or 2.5days to get it back up to your maximum threshold?

Quick question:

When you leave kano pool, for instance, your miner goes down for let's say 24 hours.

How long does it take for your 5n to drop? and also how long does it take to re-ramp up to your maximum 5n payout threshold?

Thanks in advance

Quick question - when there are no blocks does that result in hash rate dropping to 0?
because my hash rate is 0, and i have no idea why? both on kano.is and in my antminer ip address log in

If your hashrate is zero, that means you aren't mining where you think are mining. Sad

Double check your settings.  There have been reports from others of something changing their settings w/o their knowledge through the API.

M
Wow, ok thats troubling..
Ive checked my settings everything seems to be the same, but i saved and reapplied them. Will see what happens
wow, wtf i was down for 3 hours.   Sad Sad

How does that happen?

Fcuk they just got the latest payout to a new address and key !!!
how can stop payments until I load a complete new version of core?

I'm going to wipe the drive reformat

Invest in a trezor, Been using it ever since I had bitcoins stolen from me last year and haven't had a problem since,

Until then I would suggest using Jaxx on your phone to receive payouts till its solved

I've been looking into the hardware wallets recently.. What are peoples thoughts regarding Ledger Nano S vs Trezor?

Are there honestly big differences that truly set one of them above the other?
Or, is it just a preference thing, and/ or a $ cost thing?

Would love to hear from users of both wallets. As i am stuck between the two

ok, so bitcoin core is the way to go because it is the most secure? - does it have lower fees too?
So, how do you go about building your mining rewards up to about 10-15 on your profile before consolidating one larger payment to your wallet address?
Electrum is secure. It just is only a wallet.
You cannot, as yet, build up your mining rewards in your Kano.is user account. I send my mining rewards to one btc address, when they get to be 10-15 rewards I send them to a second address. I let those build up to about 1 btc or so, and then I send them to a different address or to coinbase or cex.io to sell.
oh okay, i see now. this was really informative, thanks to all for the help guys.  Smiley
so i should just stick with sending my mining rewards to my exodus wallet then?

p.s. apologies for all the long posts Kano. my bad  Smiley still very new to this and to the bitcoin forum. but learning (and enjoying it here)

Hi guys,

so ive been using exodus as my deposit address. i just logged in and got a pop up saying that i will be paying huge fees if i continue to deposit small amounts.

What wallet can i use to prevent this? or can i change my minimum payout amount in my kano profile?

Anyone else experienced the same situation?

Thanks for the help
Only use Bitcoin Core.

i need 150 gb free space on my harddrive for this??  Shocked

why bitcoin core?
is there no other wallet?

Can someone please help me out here.. Exodus pretty much saying im going to be paying $39 in transaction fees.

what wallet can i use to prevent this?

A very secure wallet with ease of use is Airbitz.  They also have great customer service.
does it solve the problem of no or low deposit transaction fees regarding many small constant payments when we get paid for a block maturing?
First rule, if you don't control you private keys then someone else has control of your coins. Online wallets can and have been hacked.
If you can't use bitcoin core, because of the space requirements then try Electrum.

Second, when consolidating many small amounts in 1 larger one then you will pay fees. No way around it. But if you pick a time when the network is slower and the mempool is small, you can get you consolidation through for less. I try to not let my smaller amounts build up to more than 10 or 15 mining rewards before consolidating. You can check the current recommended transactions fee per byte here https://bitcoinfees.21.co/

I have been using this wallet for a few of my accounts of all sizes of constant payments over the years with no problems.

For example, if you received 20 $1 deposits into your wallet and then went to spend $15, it would require 15 inputs of $1 each. Each input increases the data requirements of your transaction and therefore the fees required to spend the funds. If you received 2 $10 deposits into your wallet instead, it would only require 2 inputs to spend your funds and would therefore be much cheaper.
Note that due to the rising costs of bitcoin mining fees, it may cost more to include an input than the value of the input itself. For example, if you received a $0.10 deposit into your wallet, but it costs $0.25 to include that deposit in an outgoing spend, then the $0.10 deposit becomes un-spendable since it costs too much to include in an outgoing transaction.
Users experiencing large fees have usually received many small deposits into their wallet of usually less than a few US dollars worth. This is common with some mining pool payouts. We suggesting switching to a service that aggregates transactions into a single large transaction that encompasses a longer period of time.

How does the kano mining pool avoid this? because we get paid in small amounts more frequently? is there a wallet or a way of totalling up my rewards/payments in my kano profile and then just make one payment at the end of the month to my wallet instead of the small $ automatic payments happening? can this be done? what are the rest of you guys doing, as I'm sure you have all experienced this? unless it's just me  Grin

why does ping matter when mining?
so found out that im getting an average of 336ms when i ping - stratum.kano.is for the past couple days since i joined the pool on thursday.
pinged the rest of the servers and found that the de and nl is best for me, with the nl being best server for me at 211ms
so in my antminer "miner configeration" would i essential copy and paste it like this - stratum+tcp://nl.kano.is:3333
and for pool 2 stratum+tcp://nl.kano.is:80 etc..
Is this correct?
The ping tells you how long it takes for the work from your miners to reach the node. The longer the time, the greater the chance that your work could be stale by the time it reaches the node.

You don't want to put a different port of the same node as your pool 2. Instead, put the next node with 2nd lowest ping time. That way in case the node fails for some reason, you are still mining on the pool.

Edit 336ms seems really high for GA to CA. Did you try NYA? It would be the closest physically to your location. When I ping SG (Singapore) from Seattle, I only get 209ms

Im from south africa, so anything under 290 is what i get from where i live with most servers when i play games etc. So 211ms is perfect!

so what you saying is essentially i would make:

Pool 1 - stratum+tcp://nl.kano.is:3333
Pool 2 - stratum+tcp://de.kano.is:3333
Pool 3 - stratum+tcp://nl.kano.is:81

is this correct?

Is there a list of all the servers we can connect to? I'm not seeing it anywhere on the site, but I may be blind.
The thread title here Smiley
DE,SG,JP,NL,NYA
replace stratum with any of the above
e.g. nya.kano.is
You can ping them to work out which is closest.

Thanks Kano...but not sure what some of those 2 or 3 letters locationsn refer to....can you just tell me the closest to Georgia (US)?

The default one is probably best for you.

You can also open a command prompt and enter:

ping nya.kano.is

and so on for each of the entries.  You want to use the one with the lowest ping.

Hi there guys, super excited to be here - just joined the pool (got my miner on Thursday)

Just wanted to find out, I know the pool works off a PPLNS Payment system.

Could someone please take the time to break this down and actually explain how it works and what total payments I could expect for a month? (Currently mining with one S9)
Just curious on how it works, what the profitability is like etcetera

Sorry for being a noob.

Thanks

Hello and welcome!  Smiley

PPLNS stands for Pay Per Last Number of Shares.  The best way to describe it is your pay per block "ramps up" from the time you start mining, and "ramps down" when you stop (for whatever reason - power outage, moving, leaving, whatever).  It takes about 3 days to fully ramp up when you mine full time.

What that means is we find a block before your 3 days are up (5N as it's termed), you will receive a fraction of what would be your "full payout" if you were fully "ramped up".  It also means if you are offline after you reach your full 5N, and we find a block, you still receive a fraction of that "full payout".

At current difficulty and BTC price, an S9 @ 14TH/s will earn about $566 for 30 days after the 0.9% pool fee.  You have to subtract out your taxes and electricity costs.  Note that difficulty is slated to increase by ~6% in about 12 hours, so that value will go down.  If BTC price increases, then that value will go up.

This pool seems to be one of the only pools, if not the only pool, that shares transaction fees of the block among the miners.  Furthermore, the pool op, Kano, seems to have a pretty good system built where blocks seem to pick up higher than average transaction fees.  The last block found here was worth 15.03BTC.  Since a block is only 12.5 BTC, that means another 2.53 BTC in transaction fees was included, and that's divvied up among the miners proportionately based on their 5N hashrate.

Lastly, this pool is "small", so variance can suck at times.  On average, the pool will get 100% luck on block finding.  Since it's a small pool, that means there will be times when luck really sucks.  Long term, however, you will come out ahead of other pools, because of above point about transaction fees.  Don't be discouraged by dry block spells.  Instead, recruit others to mine here to decrease variance! Smiley

Kano has all sorts of graphs and numbers on the pool page.  Check them out.  They will eventually make sense, once you grasp the above mentioned info.

M

This was so helpful, thanks a lot - really appreciate it!  Smiley

Quick question: how is the "5N" calculation worked out? and can you give me an example?

For instance, my N-Avergae is 4.14TH/s -- what does this mean? is this standard for an s9 miner?
