Why are transactions so ridiculously expensive? "sweep_all" wants to take 8% (1200 ETNX), whereas ETN was only 0.000008% (0.12 ETN). Did someone get a decimal point wrong?

[WTB] Delta DPS-2400AB 2400W 240v PSU
by

on 16/01/2018, 21:48:23 UTC
I'm looking for a working Delta 2400W PSU from a forum-reputable person, preferably (but I suppose not required to be) in the US. I'll cover shipping.

Able to pay with USD, XMR, or ETH (or Shapeshift to whatever you want, if you're willing to take on the conversion fee).

Do all Vegas in reference design have Samsung HBM2?
Yes, when reference cards were made, only Samsung had HBM2 available. The aftermarket cards were late in part because Hynix wasn't ready.

Sooo, you can use the same registry mod for V56 Custom cards as for the Reference cards??
In my experience, no; it depends entirely on the memory. Many (all?) aftermarket 56s are using Hynix memory, which doesn't perform anywhere near the Samsung memory present in all reference cards, and aftermarket 64s.

Re: ASUS B250 MINING EXPERT bios 403 (2017/12/15) released?

I've NEVER seen a "working on more than 6 reliably" report.
Checking in as another 8x Vega miner, though on the ASRock H110 - 15,760 of that sweet Monero hashrate, every second.

On topic, I'm glad I found this, as I was actually expecting to be able to run 18 RX570s on this thing. Though is the limitation the motherboard or Windows?

(Edit: After seeing other threads, I see the mobo won't even POST with over 13 of the same card... very weird, I definitely don't understand how any motherboard would care which GPU manufacturer is being plugged in, though someone mentioned potential display outputs, which is an interesting thought.)

Re: Modified XMR-STAK-AMD 0% DEV Fee
by
Morgon
on 03/01/2018, 14:59:14 UTC
The latest DEV fee for XMR stak is 2%...  These guys are forcing you to mine for them for using their software.   Should be illegal but hey it's the land of the free.   Grin
No, they are not "forcing you". That's a voluntary choice you make and agree to by choosing their one-click binary download. It's not like they're the only XMR mining software in existence. You are free to support another project that provides binaries with no fees.

If you do the work to modify and compile, you are free to make whatever personal changes you would like - they even walk you through how to do it, which makes people's arguments even more ludicrous.

To the claims of the devs not actually doing any work: you only need to see the commit logs to see the amount of effort that has gone into this software. Hundreds of man-hours so that you can click a button and gain credit on a blockchain ledger.  Why do you not see value in giving them a modest amount of support and incentive to continue to invest into the software?

anyone knows what brand of hbm2 was used in the reference powercolor vega 56?
Would have had to be Samsung; Hynix didn't have theirs available until the aftermarket boards which didn't start production until what, 4 months into Vega lifecycle?

PowerColor got a bad rap, but I think it was just silicon lottery for the ones doing public benchmarks. I have a family member with a reference PC Vega 56 with no issues.

Which drivers and OS are you using? This may be Vega-specific, but I'm fairly certain that 8 GPU was the limit on the August Beta Blockchain driver, as well as Windows 10 before the Fall Creator's Update.

Also note that the Win10 "Fall Creator's Update" from October(?) did specifically increase the limit, though I don't know what the maximum is now.

Tried flashing to Vega64 BIOS before, but the cards were drawing to much Watts from the wall  Undecided
Maybe I am just unlucky in silicon lottery  Smiley
The way I do it is to use HWiNFO64 to monitor voltage, and set core voltage to 900mV. If that takes under load (Cast/Stak is stable, and HWiNFO reports core at 900), then I'll try dropping it to 881.

Of course, I've only been successful in about half of my cards (7 of 14), but many of my others are in the low 900s, which will push the draw up to 180W or so which isn't bad; I could probably back that off and hash around 1900 at 150W, which may be more palatable for some.

Re: Blockchain vs Adrenalin AMD drivers

I find that the new ones are too bloated with Wattman etc installed

i now use Overdriventool, much better and works fine.
You can always extract the bundle (using 7Zip or WinZip) and simply point Windows to the Packages\Drivers\Display folder when installing a new device, or do a Custom Install and unselect AMD Settings.

As you've already done, use OverdriveNTool for AMD cards.

The max mem overclock I can get on 2x Vega56 is 930Mhz and 890Mhz @ 900mV.
They are giving me 1940 and 1860 H/s respectively.

Used powertables in registry and blockchain driver. Everything adjusted through OverdriveNTool without using WatMan.

Any hints on how to get more overclock?

Try flashing your card with the Vega 64 BIOS and re-applying the registry mod (use the 1100 HBM to start, to see if it's stable).

If you're mining Eth, use Adrenalin.

If you're mining XMR, use the Blockchain drivers for Vega; Adrenalin if you're using Polaris (since you have the Compute switch).

Anyone knows if the Sapphire nitro requires all 3x8pin?
So far, yes. I've tried booting with 1 + 2 and 2 + 3 and neither configuration would allow Windows to see it.

Curious to try 1 + 3 sometime, but that's for another day. But as long as you have a 300W PCIe cable (i.e. dual 8pin), it's a $4 fix for an 8-pin splitter.

My Sapphire Nitro+ 56 just arrived a few hours ago, been tinkering with it but the most I'm getting is around 1300 h/s.

Got core -30% and memory at 945. It's running smooth but I was expecting a fair bit more.

Does anyone have Nitro+ 64 BIOS they could share as I think the next step is trying to flash the silent bios with 64 unless anyone has any other suggestions!!
Download GPU-Z and find out who manufactures the HBM2. If it's Hynix (and it probably is), you may be SOL in terms of mining performance - at least until AMD fixes their software so that Cryptonight workloads utilize the Compute drivers.

An announcement was made around the 15th of December that the Nitro cards were shipped to retailers, but I haven't heard of them being sold anywhere yet.

NewEgg had them. I own a 56, and a family member has two 64s.

Well yes, I believe all Vega 56s have hynix while the 64s have samsung memory. That's the reason why I buy 64s even though the 56s are cheaper. From my experience samsung memory always seems more robust and has fewer crashes. It's probably also why the 56 even with a 64 bios hashes a bit less than the 64. So basically my point remains.. We weren't even talking about the 56s.

Check this article out: https://videocardz.com/72173/there-are-at-least-three-variants-of-vega-10-gpu-packages
It was my understanding that when the reference cards were released, Hynix didn't even have HBM2 ready yet (which was part of the availability issues).

Either way, there are definitely 56s with Samsung (another). But now you have me wondering about the weaker cards in my fleet.

Why would the registry files be any different than the stock blower style cooler? It's the exact same card.. It baffles me how people think changing the outside cooler turns it into a completely different card. If the core and memory are the same (from same manufacturer), the card will perform exactly the same (apart from better thermals of course)...
FWIW, while I don't know anything about the Nitro, the MSI Air Boost (which looks the same as the reference cards) does not perform the same. It seems to have Hynix memory (according to GPU-Z), and I was never able to get it to work even remotely well.

I had the same problem and it was caused by the asrock h110+. Such a piece of junk if you want to use it with vegas...
I'm using an ASRock H110 with 5x Vega (soon to be 8, once I get my 240V circuit set up) with no issues. I have seen mixed reviews, so it's very possible that with such niche hardware, the failure rate is a bit higher.

What is more efficient two RX 570 or one Vega 56?
I actually did this math last night while talking about the inflated Vega prices.

If you're only talking two 570s, a single Vega 56 is going to give you more hashrate with less (or equal) cost, and less power draw. Three 570s has its benefits, but you're just making your power company happy.

My numbers may not be representative of anyone who has really dialed in their settings, but think of having to do that 3 times more than a single Vega. I am taking into account the average person's experience.
