Maybe it's been said already, but if I knew nothing about any of this I'd say cablepair's ASIC pre-order is much less sketchy than BFL's*.
Cablepair takes credit cards. BFL does not. At least that's what their websites show. If BFL drops the ball, well you're screwed. While I hate credit card companies with a bitcoin passion, the leaches do protect me from scams.

*I've got no dog in this hunt, just an observation. I have made zero ASIC pre-orders.

How about burning through another post by elaborating on the thought of putting the code in github?

Deepbit is down along with other pools (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3889.msg570739#msg570739). As of right now, the chart shows over 50% of all mining power is in the 'other' category. See here: http://bitcoinwatch.com

Bitcoin video demonstrating advancements in the bitcoin universe
by
Mr.Bitcoin
on 17/09/2011, 16:31:01 UTC
Hi all.
The team here at MrBitcoin.com (3 brothers with too much time on their hands) have decided to create a video that discusses recent advances to the bitcoin economy. One of us is a film and animation professor, so it won't be half assed. This video will hopefully feature a few core awesome new technologies (ie bit-pay) but it will harp on smaller ones as well. The purpose of the video will be to educate non bitcoiners and to hopefully draw them into the bitcoin experience.

In creating this topic we hope to get suggestions from everyone in the forum community on what to feature in the video. Products that can be purchased (I know this topic was explored in the original bitcoin video, but much has changed since then), websites that offer bitcoin services, b+m shops that accept bitcoin, etc. will be it's focus.

FYI: nowhere in the video will there be an advertisement of other cryptocurrencies, nor will there be slander of other cryptocurrencies (even though we would love to, it's not professional). This will be all bitcoin and only bitcoin.

Thanks for any and all constructive advice.

Friggin sweet.

Thanks for the find. This goes to show the exact purpose of such a website/app. I had no idea there was a merchant in my area that accepts bitcoins (chapel hill, NC).

totes going to bitvinyl later to pick up a beastie boys record.

This is great, I love it.

I would like to see (not necessarily from your team, bit-pay merchant solutions) an app that embeds local stores that accept bitcoin onto a google maps type interface.

Does such an app (or even website) exist? I don't mean just a list of local stores, I am super lazy and a consumer whore. I need a map!

mtgoxx.tk phishing scam - Hold on to your Bitcoins!
by
Mr.Bitcoin
on 30/08/2011, 19:27:38 UTC
Maybe there's another post about this on the forum, but I couldn't find one.

I got this in an email:
Quote
Dear Mt.Gox user,

Your account will be blocked for violating the rules of exchange.
Details: https://www.mtgox.com/users/blocked

Thanks,
The Mt.Gox team

Really? I haven't traded anything on MtGox yet. Maybe Not trading is a violation!

From line reads: info@mtgox.com via xm33.hostsila.org
That's tip #1 it is a scam

Click the link in the email and it takes you to http://mtgooxx.tk/users/blocked
Big tip off #2... Really? TLD for Tokelau? Two xx's? Lame sauce.

Anyway, enter your account details and watch your Bitcoins disappear.

Far too cute.

69 - Come around for it.
96 - I'm coming around for it.
77 - Send enough blow to get really bent
87 - Send hookers and blow
88 - Send hookers
11 - Send gigolos
17 - Send gigolos and blow
99 - I'm running out of satoshis...  Send me my damn money now.
42 - Send EVERYTHING!

This is a level of ridiculousness I can get into! Thanks for amping up the crazy. My eyes were starting to read Bitcoin as every other word in all these posts until now.

by
Mr.Bitcoin

http://mrbitcoin.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/BTC_sticka_small.jpg

The BTC euro style sticker is finally here!

As you can see it is perfect in every way. Even the usual oval ring has been replaced by the word ‘Bitcoin’ in binary!

Nope it doesn’t get much better than this. Each sticker is printed on quality vinyl that will make your car, computer, house, dog, girlfriend, husband, cubicle, or whatever you want to stick it on look 100% better!

Plus you’ll be letting the world know how much you love Bitcoins. Order one or 10 today!

- U.S. orders:  1 sitcker is 0.6 Btc. Multiple stickers to the same address in the same order  are 1.0 Btc. for every 2 stickers. (for example 10 stickers = 5 Btc.)
- Non U.S. orders: 1 sitcker is 1 Btc. Multiple stickers to the same address in the same order  are 1.5 Btc. for every 2 stickers. (for example 10 stickers = 7.5 Btc.)

No shipping charge, no tax, nothing silly, just sweet stickers. Ordering is super simple. Head to MrBitcoin.com (http://mrbitcoin.com/btc-euro-sticker) for the wallet address and simple instructions. Soon you'll have your sticker! Send pictures to mrbitcoin.com of where you stuck it or found others sticking it.

Thanks!

A new digitical coin - InfiniCoin!
by
Mr.Bitcoin
on 16/08/2011, 17:05:19 UTC
Ladies and gentlemen, let me be the first to announce a new coin. It seems that forking (now referred to as f'ing) the Bitcoin protocol is the cool thing to do lately. And I'm nothing if not cool and trendy, so here goes:

InfiniCoin! It is in fact every digital coin except for the dreaded Bitcoin. Just replace 'infini' with your name of choice and BOOM! You've got a coin! Apparently you don't even need to know much about coding or how to be a decent human being to make a new coin.

Quote
Reasons I now think it's a scam after playing with it:
- They only made one minor modification to the source code (changing 50 -> 96)
- Already mined 400k IxCoins themselves.
- Copied and leveraged bitcoin community with minimal input. Product doesn't have much value on its own.
- wallet.dat is 52mb already. Within a year that will be 3gb. This is not sustainable in terms of computer resources.

I've already started a few of my own:
MrBitcoinCoin - I've only privately mined 1.4 quadrillion which is not much since there is no limit to the total amount that can be generated
MrsBitCoin - My lady wanted her own coin, so POW she has one
FCoin - Finally a coin that says what it does - trying to f-up Bitcoins. I considered calling it 'IHateBitcoinsAndWantToSeeThemFailCoin' While extrordinarily catchy, it is a little long to type.

Anyway, Just add your favorite coin here and we'll click the buttons to steal hard working miners, help people lose faith in Bitcoins, dilute the already tiny market for digital currency, and hopefully, just maybe, destroy Bitcoins!

Excellent point En Banc! Gold is a decent conductor that doesn't corrode and silver is used in imaging and film a lot. Now how can we get some industrial uses for Bitcoins? What if we coated an electrode in Bitcoins - would it corrode? Or would it be a beacon of hope and 'promise of sex' ??! That's one heck of a great promise btw!
