I need more clarity on this matter, which is the reason I brought it on here.
Please when commenting let there fact that will be helpful
It is not just in football alone but also in other sport and other professions, it is like this because the world has really changed. Before now people can barely live without having much interest for money, all they care about is having so much zeal in whatever profession they found doing but it is not like this any more. The world right now is so expensive that people consider profession that has so much whereby money can be generated and they now have to force passion in a profession because of what it can offer to them.  Life now is different from how it used to be some years ago that is why things looks different now.
To add to that, most athletes especially the young ones are more of competitive lifestyle than the sport itself.
Everyone wants to be recognized as the biggest spender and highest earner

With the generation today, the more popular you are in social media, the better chance for you to earn good money. When pandemic happened, the popularity of exhibition fights really did cater to the public who were deprive of the regular games. And these people who got involved into this kind of fight, came to know that they can really earn good money out of it. And look up until now, they are still trying to milk this kind of fight. Because people are still buying this type of event.
One social media optimization that only a few got to use early enough which has now been of so much benefit to them now that the endless benefit is one which we cannot overly emphasise but we don't hope to have more pandemic but so far it's clear that away from the pandemic,  the convenience that comes with it is an advantage that can be explored without necessarily having a situation of a pandemic.
So let’s say, passion and hard work contributed to Ronaldo and Messi achievements in football and that has made them famous, because even in the early days of their career social media wasn’t there and yet they’re able to dominate social media even now due to their influence and what they’ve done. Making them the most followed athlete in social media.
Now I get your point, most of the footballer this days is you do your finding playing football wasn’t really what they wanted to do in life. Meaning they had other career paths but then the opportunity of playing football came which also serves as a route to get rich, whether the passion is there or not.

This is not only happening in football, MMA and boxing stars are in exactly the same situation. Bloggers who think they are professional athletes challenge old school athletes and only for the sake of a show of fame and money. It looks ridiculous, just like wrestling, I am not a fan of it. The spirit of competition is disappearing now, it seems like the new trend is a show without results.
Performances without results, is that really the goal, because the matches that are carried out are of course for a content and make money from it.
Not without results, but it may not be official in a serious match.

Now completely entering a different era, betting on gambling is also becoming more and more widespread in all kinds of games.

Yes popularity makes of value increase and there’s not doubt about that. But then some are tend to focus more on what the popularity brings to them rather than what has made them more popular and maintaining that momentum. That’s how I see it

Observation - It’s been going on as a gossip or will I say argument.
That players of nowadays are more focus on making money rather than playing for passion like the old days.
Actually it's at beginning of the new player that they play football with a passion, and I understand that football players has three stages.

•stage1  At start, they play football with passions
•stage2 They play football with pride and also to be influenced and being attractive to other clubs
•stage3 They play football with to make money...this stage3 they consider it as a final stage, and that makes them to be money conscious because they more funds to retire with.

I also can strongly say that passion for football ends in Ronaldo and Messi ERA.
I disagree with you...you can see that both involvement in football has drop reduced compared before, so after they retired other incoming players maybe better than them.
Yes you can say both Ronaldo and Messi involvement in football had dropped compare to before. But you can also agree with me that thief both has created legacy in the world of football and they’re benefiting from it as a result of the hard work they put in place from the very beginning

That players of nowadays are more focus on making money rather than playing for passion like the old days.

Could be two factors, you want to get entertained or you want to earn extra money in playing gambling at the first place there's a risk but if you really love doing sports betting and you know to your self that you are well in good here why not take this as an opportunity to get an extra money while watching your favorite game.

So many headlines has been flying around, about players either wanting to change clubs because they want to secure a huge paycheck. While others still in their current club demanding a pay rise to a new contract.

If you are a well-known player and even you know to your self that you has a skill and of course your rates getting higher too so players would like to grab the opportunity to earn more money and getting more known by others and get a title, it seems just a simple question like you have the skills are you willing to get just a low key person and underpaid?.
I know having quality as a player can boast your price tag. But the aspect of ignoring those who really love your game and are praying and supporting you archive more on the bigger stage aside money is what I’m really talking about.

I don't fully agree because there are still some different thoughts in assessing why players prefer to play in a league that is more dominant in getting money than a career.
The fact is that players go for money and that is just it. Just that their career in the process is also intertwined with money and of course, success. The simple way to know this is that if there is no more money in sport today, you will not see those players that is working hard to play for their country and aiming to get into one of the best clubs in the world not play sport anymore but go to other fields instead where they can see opportunities. Everything is about money.
When I first read your post, I could only be silent because I think there is some truth to it. Especially in your words, it's all about money.
So what do we want now if the condition of the football sport that we follow and watch every season is like that? Rich clubs can buy any player.
I don’t think such rules can be implemented as we see that no one is really to settle for less. Not even gambling companies now sponsors
Then we will only see this situation continue to our children and grandchildren?
The most likely thing that can change all of this lies in the players themselves. It could also be done by implementing rules agreed upon by parties who have the capacity regarding this.

Many big stars came out of football for reaching a ripe age. It's normal, it's the natural course of things.

But I can't understand why the two of these chose to go to sub par teams just for marketing and money purposes. They could have retired and live a happy life gracefully already as multi millionaires. The era's end was kind of spoiled by that for me.

And it feels too much of a sellout now. I think this will also make it harder for future generations to appreciate what we had because it's all marketing, no heart now.
Someone said the introduction of gambling has made everyone focus on making money rather than having passion for the game. Also everyone is focus on marketing and promoting games, which has also made the players want to have this own percentage from it too.

I thought it was just a mere opinion or rumor people share nothing else not until op mentioned Saudi Arabia, at some point players run after the money, it’s really affecting most players for example playing for a team with low competition and potential will actually reduce a player not minding the kind of money they earn. In all this we still have the real ones so I will not accept the fact, although I will not mistaking this words “knowing your worth and playing for the money not just the passion” it’s different when big teams sign big names because they know the worth and how valuable a good player can be.
The Saudi Arabia new this and decided to use their money to bring in what they want even knowing their league isn’t a top competitive league.
One can say Ronald worth is what’s earning him a huge paycheck after so much hard work and passion in years back.
Can’t say same for most players that had decided to go there even when they have no major legacy in the world of football.

Even in the time of Ronaldo and Messi same shit. A lot of surprise results, this has not ended nor started now, it has started the moment soccer teams were being quoted in bookmakers with different odds for a win, draw or lose. It is exactly there that surprise results started and not so good football overall. I will make the same example I have made previously when answering other people in the same matter, back in time of Maradona in Italy and a few years later do you think were these much surprise results as we see now in Serie A, absolutely not, games were coming as expected because no money and betting was involved, as soon as betting started, surprise results almost every week started happening, only blind people do not see this.
Man I use to have this thought but was not really convinced that it was true. Now you’re making sense

Do you think the players just like to play in those top European leagues clubs? The players are chasing good career so that they can play in those good clubs. If they are not chasing career, they could just stay in the country league if it is about passion. There is nothing like passion when it comes to money, but the players can enjoy playing in the clubs they are.
A player can have passion and yet not okay with where they are. In other word, they’ll want to play in top European clubs to be noticed. Aside the paycheck they’ll get. This I think also

Actually this happens in almost every sport, whether it’s football, basketball, or boxing. That’s just how things are now.

They’ll never outright say it’s all about the money, but as we've both seen, their choices usually come down to whoever offers the biggest paycheck. Take boxing, for example - if a promoter has a lot riding on a fighter, they’ll make sure he avoids matchups where the odds aren’t in his favor.. Even if the fighter believes he can win the promoter knows better because they’re protecting their investment. They’ll carefully pick his opponents to ensure he keeps winning and his value keeps rising.

That’s why so many fans these days are frustrated. They want to see the best fights, but they don’t get them because the matchups don’t fit the promoters’ agenda.
That’s very true my friend, at the end of this. It becomes way obvious and they are killing the fun that supporter get supporting them
