Best Antivirus Protection/Scanner for Mac?
by
MrGreenHat
on 14/04/2015, 16:09:07 UTC
I apologize if I am creating this topic in the incorrect forum, but I didn't know where else to ask this question. I figured bitcointalk.org would be the best place to ask this question, since most of you seem to value the security of your information. What is, in your opinion, the best Antivirus Protection or Antivirus Software for a Mac? Preferably for a reasonable price, free would be even better.

Thank you in advance.

Mining too centralized?
by

Could this eternal question be answered by the current volatility? Pure speculation, but I'm pretty sure that's why I'm posting in this forum. Let's say there's a company out in china that sells miners and accepts Bitcoin. Maybe their name starts with a B and ends in an N. They release a new, more power-efficient product for mining, and miners everywhere start buying up bitcoins to buy their miners with. Maybe this company has some sort of deal with their gov't where they have to keep a certain amount of their revenue in their own fiat currency, and only x amount of bitcoin? This company has to sell some coins, because they sure as hell aren't paying the majority of their workers with fucking bitcoin. When the company dumps its coins to the market, the shit hits the fan, and other mining companies try to cash out into their own fiat so they can pay their laborers. Is this possible? Is it practical?

Re: 1 transaction block how its possible?
by

Miners can choose what transactions they want to include. If they don't want to include any transactions other than the one that pays them their 25 BTC, then that's their choice.
so if they all choose to not include transactions we wouldnt be able to send coins?
If by "they" you mean every single person currently mining bitcoin got together in a dark room...Yep, we're relying on the benevolence of a few in a world full of people motivated by greed.

Great work, but only nonbtc users should collect those tips as it is a way to bring new users in and not enrich the current group.
+1. I have also noticed he seems to be giving more bitcoin to twitter users who seem to be more skeptical of bitcoin...Interesting idea.

So you just decided to bash on PPLNS without any real information. Just repeating the same thing over and over again. Pure waste.
Yeah, cyberpinoy does that a lot. Pretty sure he made a typo when creating his username, accidentally typed a pi instead of an.

Well , thanks for making me Panicking  Angry Just checked preevs and It's like ~315$ , It will keep going down or what ? Im really not that experienced on Bitcoin economics

People are buying gifts for holidays, this is bitcoin early days... don't fret. The halving is drawing near...mid 2016.

NEVER sell for a loss
.

Alright , I will calm down because you seem like someone with experience.
But could you please explain what "halving" mean exactly please ? thanks
I would imagine he is referring to the block subsidy reward for finding a block, currently 25 bitcoins, but will be halved approximately every 4 years.

Re: Reused R values again
by
MrGreenHat
on 17/12/2014, 02:17:19 UTC
Does this mean the problem was not limited to the reused R values, all transfers were compromised during the few hours while the bug was not discovered? If I understood you correctly, if you seed the RNG with time-stamps from that short period you bump into the transactions which haven't had reused R values, that's how you got this private key?
Also new wallets created.  And "this time period" is somewhat ambiguous due to caching. For all I know there is some browser tab up someplace running this code that could generate an address and and receive 1000 BTC at any moment.
Well, that's not absolutely horrifying, is it? damn.

I just wanted to come in here and let everyone know that BITMAIN customer service has certainly stepped up their game (or maybe I was just the one with the problem to begin with). Of the 3 S4's I purchased, only one has ever given me troubles, and in the past I was probably a little too emotional rather than rational with them. I recently had a minor issue with my S4 and the BITMAIN North American team is taking care of me! Have been very impressed with their communication and I can tell that BITMAIN customer service sincerely does care about their customers and are willing to stand by their products. Keep up the good work, BITMAIN! Smiley

Re: Seriously ... whats your buy price?
by

This should probably go in the speculation forum. My buy price is whatever the current exchange rate is, as long as I think that I have a potential to make a return. I don't buy because of the price, I buy because of the possible ROI.

Re: ROBBED

Yeah, it's my own damn fault for leaving those coins in the hot wallet. I guess I let my gaurd down.

My password was 16 characters, numbers and made up words... Not sure how they got past that? My btc in cold storage is untouched, I download a lot of music, and occasionally a movie, however I have been visiting viooz which is a bootleg streaming movie sight from Russia... So I dont know about that...

That's great you found the address but I'm not sure where to go with it? The "security issue" with btc sure won't help with the universal acceptance. I just lost almost 3k$ and I'm fairly careful, no expert, but fairly proficient... If I can get robbed than I would say over 80% of the general population is at far greater risk.
I'm buying a ledger wallet.
Yeah, I think this might be where you may have gone wrong, but thats just a guess.
