Quite a few people have posted now saying that they seem to find blocks in quick succession.  I've noticed the same thing, but even to the point where different VPS's (same provider) have all found blocks within a minute of each other but nothing for hours either side.  In the last 4 hours I found 9 blocks all at the same time across 6 VPS's (around 30 mins ago), and then nothing for the 3 hours before that.  I have seen the same kind of patterns over the last few days too (though no normally 9 at the same time!).  Has anyone got any theories as to why this might be?

I have seen exactly this

once one block was found, on one instance....then a whole load more were found quickly by that isnatnce

another that found none never found any

I think findinf say 12 blocks with one instance an zero with an identical instance is very unlikely.....

somethings going on...

I have a few theories
and one is really out there....
I get this too. All arrive at once. Go on then, tell us...

Define "at once"?

I have a node that found 3 blocks with 1 hour in between blocks yesterday, then nothing. So 3 blocks in 2 hours. Or are you blocks like seconds/minutes apart?

Well I'm using dumprikey / importprivkey to move immature blocks to my main wallet and then looking at the time that shows in the transaction list...

These were all dumped/imported just before 1pm UK time

Which version of primecoind are you using?

How do i replace the ancient version with the new one, without delete/recreate my droplet? And keeping the same wallet

I replace it.  Here, lete me help you out some on linux.  I move the old files out and then create a new section.

Quote
primecoind stop
cd ~
mv primecoin old4
git clone https://github.com/mikaelh2/primecoin

cd ~/primecoin/src
make -f makefile.unix USE_UPNP=-
mkdir ~/.primecoin
echo "rpcuser=miner2
rpcpassword=test2
gen=1" > ~/.primecoin/primecoin.conf
sudo mv primecoind /usr/local/bin/.

primecoind --daemon

You need to do "mingw-get install mingw32-gmp" before compiling, else you get this error message:

Code:
In file included from main.cpp:16:0:
prime.h:10:17: fatal error: gmp.h: No such file or directory
compilation terminated.
make: *** [obj/mail.o] Error 1

Has it been confirmed that these are valid prime chains? If I'm not mistaken (please correct me if I am), primecoin only checks for probable primality.

Indeed. Nevertheless, great results for only 3 days of mining!

the rate how blocks are generated now is exploding oO

because some people made their own configs/miners. This is normal. Soon someone will go public.

After finding a block every 3 hours, nothing since this morning... Soon I will redirect my cpu's to something else until an optimized miner pops up.

Is there anything known about the difficulty? When does it retarget and what the designed time per block?

Due to the design, each confirmation takes 10 minutes. The six confirmations is general, and thus requires 6 x 10 minutes in total.
Not exactly.

First we are talking about in-game transactions, which won't be handled directly by the blockchain, so they would be instant.

Second, the "slowness" we were talking about is that of bitcoind itself (not the protocol), which can be fixed coding.

Ah I see. Never knew that it was possible to also have in-game transactions in parallel to blockchain. Thanks for the clarification!

Everybody has the same problem, only cpu. You can mine coins for various reasons. I like the idea of using the computer power for potential scientific value.

apparently bitcoind is too slow to handle high amounts of traffic.
Thanks, is it likely to be faster in the future? Or that's just the way it is, and nothing can be done?
