well that sorta makes sense, but I already now how to start mining in the pool i'm in.

is this the same .conf file located at AppData\Roaming\Bitcoin?

what does the .conf file need to include?

looks like this now

server=1
rpcuser=the user name for my BTC Guild miner_1
rpcpassword=the password I have for BTC Guild

Quote
Hit that and rename if you want

say what?

Quote
can make starting the miner quicker and you won't have to re-enter everything each time you start

how? do I do that once the .conf is made?

hey all...appreciate the commentary and advice...

the BFL 50 GH/s was exactly what I was contemplating. when I get it up and running i'll let you know.

But with current ASIC competition level you can get better than BFL and in time

Who is better and at what cost and how fast?

Here's a response I rec'd regarding delivery of the 50 GH/s Bitcoin Miner

Thank you for your interest in Butterfly Labs. All products are made in the order in which they are received. In response to your delivery inquiry, upon placing an order from us today, it will be a few weeks before your product arrives, and that depends on what part of the country you're in. I hope this helps. Again Thank you for choosing Butterfly Labs.

SO why can't a company making and selling a product tell you when it will be shipped? Should they be trusted?

PLEASE somebody help me understand....

I find pages a lot that tell you about the .conf, but I just don't get it. I know my way around the computer, but not the programming side.

In the example.conf file in bfgminer 3.10.0 win64 this is what shown

{"pools" : [   {      "url" : "http://url1:8332",      "user" : "user1",      "pass" : "pass1"   },   {      "url" : "http://url2:8344",      "pool-proxy" : "socks5://127.0.0.1:1080",      "user" : "user2",   "pass" : "pass2"   },   {      "url" : "http://url3:8332",      "user" : "user3",      "pass" : "pass3"   }],"intensity" : "d,9,9,9","gpu-engine" : "0-985,0-950,0-960,0-1000","gpu-fan" : "0-85,0-85,0-85,0-85","gpu-memclock" : "860,825,835,875","gpu-powertune" : "20,20,20,20","temp-cutoff" : "95,95,95,95","temp-overheat" : "85,85,85,85","temp-target" : "75,75,75,75","auto-fan" : true,"auto-gpu" : true,"expiry" : 120,"failover-only" : true,"gpu-threads" : 2,"log" : 5,"queue" : 1,"scan-time" : 60,"temp-hysteresis" : 3,"scan-serial" : [   "/dev/ttyUSB0",   "/dev/ttyUSB1",   "/dev/ttyUSB2","/dev/ttyUSB3"],"kernel-path" : "/usr/local/bin"}

I have no idea what this means. Do I need this file? What goes in it?

rpcuser=xxxxxxxxx
rpcpassword=I71pMDMcB6hfHwNyvn1KJKaWeLMDvJn7ibvBuXMRPcS8IVee9SwwIuHF1N37ZTCuRZQTICp6McncJoiW2TxNrsz9A7oAGlcbs5vr

Hey all

New to bitcoin mining. Started out a BTC Guild, but decided to switch to p2Pool. I followed instructions from here http://p2pool.in, but not sure if it's running properly. Experiencing a lot of "dead" area (?) and some increased latency. I'm using an ASUS rig now so I don't have much of a hash rate going on right now, but I plan on getting a mining rig in the near future. Could use some help so I can contribute to the pool more efficiently.
