Re: Butter Bot!: New Bitstamp, BTC-E, and MtGox EMA Trading Platform

I've gone through the past 30+ pages in this thread and can't find anything relating to a question I have, which seems like it should be pretty common:

Can I use Butter Bot on multiple exchanges simultaneously from the same machine with the same license? I only have one desktop PC that I trust to run Butter Bot, but quickly I discovered that if I open two Chrome windows, the bot settings will duplicate between the two, which makes it seem like I can only trade on one exchange.

Would there be any way to set up separate instances without resorting to the installation of a virtual machine? I'd like to be able to trade a few exchanges (ie. BTC-E, Gox, Bitstamp) at the same time to decrease my risk in the form of one of these places rolling up overnight or being "hacked".

The answer is yes, I use it on btc-e with one setting and have a separate one for MtGox.  It trades both at the same time.

And I believe I asked this very question in the thread and had it answered...

I just finished reading all of Goomboo's highlighted posts and have to say it was a worth it read coming from a similar opinion of many of the recent comments...

I sat here watching bitcoinwisdom going I should of sold there and bought there and next time around I will do that and get it right.. Uhh probably not..
I still want to go read more about cross overs and EMA, but from his results I think it may be on to something..

My bot also traded at the 610 but started the trade at 620 and I asked myself "wtf is it doing.. it could of sold at 680 this morning" honest why didnt it?
But Goomboo has a point where 7 out of 10 trades will be bad but the 3 that arent will be big ones (I hope). Look its back to 610 right now..

Now I know I am not making a good case for this system as I honestly dont believe it myself just yet.. but I think I need more than a week to figure it out.
So I guess I will buy a few months membership and give it a try.. I heard there was a referral program that give you an extra month?
Anyone care to share?

Quick Update: After reading Goomboo's posts I decided to change the short/long to 10/21 and the bot would of sold this morning before the drop if it was set to that..
Where as with the 20/42 it didnt.. May be worth thinking about..

You want a referral check out my signature, just click on the butter bot link when you want to buy and you and I will get a free month.

I would like to try out Butter Bot. Before that, there is an issue I would like to seek advise on.

I would like to have 2 trading channels in BTC-e: bot channel and manual channel.

Right now, I have an existing account with BTC-e, which I am using for manual trading. The problem is that if bot trades with this account, it will interfere with my manual trading.
I thought about having a second account for bot trading. The problem is that with chrome, you cannot login to a second account without logging out from the first account first.

Short of using virtual machine or a second PC, is there any way to have 2 trading channels concurrently on a single PC?

You could try creating a new user profile in Chrome & have a separate Chrome for the second account/user.

The solution works. Thank you!

I wonder why you'd need that, though. The bot doesn't require you to be logged in with the account it trades on. It just needs to have the corresponding API key.

I'm now up around 60% in BTC in the last 2 weeks or so btw., Butter Bot is working really really well for me in combination with buying back gradually during the big dips Cheesy

Since the drop started my bot has done nothing... (mind you I like the fact that it is going down and hasn't bought) but I am curious as to your settings if ya don't mind sharing..

I have short 18 long 34 on 30 minute trading..

After buying the 1 year license, putting it in and restarting chrome now it says next to the little triangle

API: connected
MTGOX: disconnected
BTC-E:disconnected
BITSTAMP: disconnected

My API's for gox and btc-e are correct... am I good or is there a network problem right now?

The fact that the bot knows what my balances on both sites are I am gonna guess good but it doesn't look right.

Naelr

Hey Naelr Smiley,
99.5% of the time this is caused by one of two things:

1. Your key and/or secret were copied incorrectly.
2. Your API keys were not given both "trade" and "get info" privileges on BTC-E (Bitstamp in contrast requires 6 permissions).

Please drop me an email if that doesn't help, I will be happy to help you from there Smiley.

Pablo.
Pablo@Butter-Bot.com

They were working during the trial... but for some reason after I put in the new license key after I bought it they stopped.. I recreated new API's and copied my keys and secrets  and now they are connected... thanks everyone.  It would appear it "forgot" the secret keys.

What is going on here... obviously there are many many instances here proving that not only is bitcoinminerz.com a legit site but that the man behind bitcoinminerz.com is a legit business man and a man of honor.  I need to share my story now.  Not only is Maidak a man of his word but on my first group buy with him he worked with me on shipping and correct me if I am wrong, Maidak, he gave me his number and we spoke on the phone.  Since then I have bought from his site in total I think about 5 times.  2 of those times he was experiencing difficulties and my BTC payment did not reach him.  On both occasions through chatting with him on that help support page he has offered to send me the goods without receiving payment, both times I said no sir fuck that I will pay you again it isn't your fault and both times it wasn't. I paid him again because he is honest, and has gone above and beyond anything that any other bitcoin distributor I have worked with has.  (Get that shit from BFL)  On the first occasion he sent me an email from that address that support never uses or checks yea and email wow imagine that.  Maidak has responded to every email and when I bought the rasberry Pi from his site sent me his own personal suggestions from his uses of the PI.   Hell when I bought my PI I ordered the USB 3.0 Anker hub from his site and he personally sent me an email to let me know in his experience the Anker 3.0 hubs didn't work reliably with the PI was I sure I wanted it and if not he would send me 2 of the 7 port ones instead and refund me the difference... I said no sir you send me the 2 7 port ones and keep the difference because your the man.  I respect him, what he does and would have words with anyone against him.

What needs to happen is an op needs to ban this trolling jackass and delete the first fucking post and change the damn title.

Maidak don't sweat this asshole... you know your honest and those of us fortunate enough to have worked with you or bought from you know that as well.  You know I don't live far from you... if you find this asshole lets go knock on his front fucking door and give him back his lost bitcoins.  You don't fuck with a man's family, car, house, or his job/income.  Slander is just that fucking with your income.

Hi OleOle & Naeir.

I'm relatively new to the bot- I've been using it since I think October. I used to use the 'suggested' settings for BTC-e, until one day the bot sold low & bought high because of them, and then I went looking for new settings, and someome on the forums here suggested that I dial down my EMA numbers. Doing so was the best thing I've ever done, because now in backtesting, depending on the day,  I can sometimes get over 16,000% profit from my new settings.

So I'll share them with you, and will suggest that you slowly tweak the buy/sell threshold numbers, testing them with backtesting every day or so to see how different numbers affect the settings. Go slow with the adjustments. And try tiny negative numbers in place of the zeros on them.

Short EMA: 7
Long EMA: 15
Frequency: 2 Hours
Buy Thresholds: 0/0.25
Sell Thresholds: 0/0.1
Tick Offset: Anything

I also use bitcoinwisdom.com and enter these EMA numbers into it and set it to display EMA lines so I can watch & see what the bot sees, I find it helps to visualize what's happening. It also helps to visualize new strategies before I test them in the bot by punching the numbers into bitcoinwisdom first, too & seeing where the EMA lines would cross.

So good luck, hopefully these settings will either help or inspire you.

Thanks very much NginUS, while it's one thing for people to comment on what they think the bot does or what they think the market will do over time, it's quite another to share your settings and your ideas for tweaking them, thank you Smiley I really appreciate that as it helps my understanding of the changing of settings in the context of the current choppy market and the quite wide range of flexibility that the settings allow.

Really appreciate all your comments, guidance and observations. There's no doubt that it's going to be tricky to get the balance right between taking a longer term view to work with the design parameters of the bot over the longer term and honing the settings to take account of the shorter term volatility in the market. You mention that you are constantly backtesting your settings, this does make sense when you get your settings into a 'sweet spot' where you feel that they are adapted nicely to the current market and are making a certain level of profit. I'm nowhere near that 'sweet spot' yet, so I'll review your remarks and the comments that other folks have kindly made and I'm sure that with some time and application I'll be able to make greater sense of it all and fine tune the settings. I also like the idea of being able to visualise things, so I'll take your advice and use bitcoinwisdom to 'paint the EMA pictures'.

Thanks very much once again, it's greatly appreciated.

Smiley

I want to +1 everything OleOle just said... I have read everything between his post that I quote and this one and want to also thank Vesperwillow for sharing his knowledge with NginUS who in turn shared it with us.  Allowing all of us to prosper from shared knowledge is what makes things like Bitcoin and opensource communities what they are today.  So many times have I asked in the BTC-e trollbox for some insite into bots and trading with the API that I was just lost.  I understand people wanting to make a buck but can't we all profit some?  Much thanks also goes to fible1 for offering the bot (which I just purchased last night because in the trial it paid for itself).  I have been using bitcoinwisdom and playing with the EMA crosses which is how I knew where the bot should have sold but didn't.  What I am having a bit of trouble wrapping my head around is exactly what the long and short EMA really mean.  I am going to search now.. 3 sick kids and the wife and myself have made my research time limited this week.  I just set the bot and forgot about it and got lucky I guess.  Going to play with BCwisdom and some backtesting settings... Again thanks for sharing my faith in humanity has been restored... hahahahha j/k ... but really thanks.

I am looking for a little incite as well..   Going with the suggested settings on BTC-e my bot bought several times at about $777 So right now I am up quite a bit.  If I sold despite the bot sitting there doing what appears to be nothing what will it do?  rebuy?  nothing waiting on the downturn?  it is so temping to turn the bot off and sell it is killing me!  Currently BTC-e is at $923 and the lines crossed at $936 so why hasn't the bot sold?

Yep, everything is right. With these settings bot would sell everything on 5th. As the price had huge drop after that - you actually should be glad that this happened Smiley
Also, with current trend and these settings bot will buy all BTC back within few hours

yea I noticed the huge drop but I figured it should have bought back by now.... thanks PaperClip I will give it more time ...

OK I just received the "A buy order is imminent!" email... hahah just got scared I guess.  But shouldn't it have bought somewhere between $665 and now at what $780?

I decided to test the bot and downloaded it  2 days ago.. it is setup with BTC-e suggested settings and the first thing it did was sell my BTC... no big deal only had a little bit... but since then it made 1 trade and has done nothing for the last 2 days.  For 1 of those 2 days I had Gox in there with different settings for both.. is this a no no ?  I have since disabled the MTGox trading part (about 15 hours ago) and still no trades... is something wrong?

Naelr

The bot uses EMA as it's underlying trade strategy, which is a long term strategy, and will sometimes take weeks between trades. It's diciplined & usually won't trade on market 'noise'.

You can change its settings so that it behaves more like a day trading bot, or even an HFT bot, but backtesting proves that doing so is far less profitable than a long term approach.

Then my next question would be is anyone running the suggested settings for BTC-E and have they had the bot trade at all in the last 48 hours?

The following settings are for Bitstamp and BTC-e:

Short EMA: 20    Long EMA: 42
Buy 1: 0    Buy 2: 0.15
Sell 1: 0    Sell 2: 0.1
30 minute time window.

These are the settings  I am using.  No trades since Dec 5, 2013 at 10:30 PM.

I have been rummaging in my junk and found a brand new Hiper 580W - 36A on 5v rail(I forgot this one did not have correct CPU Aux power connector for mainboard I bought long time ago), plus a well used Ultra 400W with 32A

does the wattage matter at all?

Yes Wattage does matter it is all connected...  Wattage is calculated as voltage times amperage  or I * V = W (I is amps or current) ... so 5 volts at 2.5 watts is 2.5/5 or 0.5 amps.

Each Erupter can be measured at 0.5 amps or 2.5 watts...  so 49 Erupters would be 49 * 0.5 = 24.5 amps or 24.5 * 5 Volts = 122.5 Watts...  or you can take 49 * 2.5 watts and also get same 122.5 Watts    So either of your two power supplys would work.. Just don't count on something that says it will do 25 amps to handle them.  Most electronics are at least in the 5% range of going either way.  I would want at least 30 amps or 200 watts to be safe.  Plust 5% of 24.5 amps is something like 1.225 amps.. so that is 25.625 and if your power supply happens to be on the negative side of that equation it is down that 1.225 amps and will burn up.

Isn't electronics and math fun?!?!?!?!?

So when can we order?

As of right now, the hubs are available in the store.  I have slightly modified it to be available for orders of 40 Erupters, since it's a bit mean to include a 49-port hub for 50 miners Smiley.  I figure there should be enough orders that either don't order enough for a hub, or pass on the hub, to make up for the fact that I only receive 1 hub per 50 units.

When will the hub be available for the rest of us?  I have like 40 miners and I didn't buy them all from you.. I know that isn't your fault but why not make them available to all first come first server just like the Erupters were sold as (or anything else in the world for that matter?)
