Re: Why do BTC ASIC miners have less improvements than other ASICS.
by
Nasdam

ASIC development on SHA256 has been going on since 2011, with about 4-5 process node updates and 2-3 generation updates in between nodes.

Development for other algos is no older than ~2 years, and these all probably started at the very cheap 90nm node, so its very easy to get a 6x gain going from 90-45nm.

Its a little harder for SHA256 to see huge gains going from 16nm to 10 or 7. Bitcoin ASICs have pretty much caught up with the latest node tech, so there wont be any more crazy gains in the future.

I agree. the improvement of ASH256 relies more on the shrink of die now.

Altcoins got 50% of market capitalization, how can they "suck"? Actually there are just a lot of worthless coins, but some alts are really world-changing.

Most small altcoins are not so good for investment. Some are scams.

As I can see in some altcoin now it's not suck because some of coin in altcoin have big potential to grow in the future maybe that time altcoin is not full develop for ICO like some scammy project but not all is suck in altcoin.

If you bought Bitcoin Cash when it was below $500, it could be a good buy.

Re: New nvidia gpus - wait or buy 1080tis?
by

Wait for the new gpu, but get ready for it's high price.
But if you cannot wait, 1080ti is the fastest gpu beside the workstation class gpu
like the vega or titan. Even an used 1080ti card price is still high.

The initial price will not be so high as the miners have to wait to get confirmation about the mining performance.

I have the H110+ with 12 Nvidia 1070ti's. Changed to an i7 and it works wonders now.

Windows does not support more than 8 same cards....  Roll Eyes How is yours working?

Windows does  not support 8 AMD cards before. Now, it supports more than 8.

Would have been much better off just leaving everything in bitcoin. Altcoins suck.
If you experience loses because of altcoins, don't be mad because it will happen due to your taking the risk of investment or else maybe because of your negligence. Because if you monitor your investment clearly and if you review the ability of altcoin you can choose it is impossible to happen.

Moreover, you just review and monitor your investment because if you can't do that you will not notice that your coin are possibly dissolved without knowing. Therefore are you sure that your altcoin site to invest is legit? nor I think the problems is site not the crypto altcoins, because I never heard any altcoins that vanished immediately into crypto industry.

If you think the Bitcoin Cash is an altcoin, then it could be a good buy. The price is rising.

So, to recapitulate, the most important things are the temperature that should be around 70°C, and then the quality of the PSU ? I'm not mining actually but I'm looking forward to it.

That is right. You need good quality power supply.

I have 18 sapphire r9 390 nitro working for a year. I had problems just with one card but during July when the temperature outside was 40 degrees Celsius and the card had around 80 degrees. Others are fine. Now the temperature is low and they are just fine with 80% fan.

The R9 390 is very good if you do not stress them too much.

why would someone buy altcoins if he is not a trader nor a cryptocurrency expert? Wise guy has to analyse the market and knows when he should buy bitcoin, or when he should buy a specific altcoin. Of course every man can not do this properly but a wise does not cry when he loses money because of his own incorrect analysis.

I bought some Bitcoin Cash as it is supported by miners. But the EDA is killing it now.

The R9 290(X) were build to run at 95c. The fans wont sweat until you reach the 95c if you didn't set the max temp lower.

I'm running my 290x with an AIO. Stays at 61c full load.

Wonder what you are planning to mine with the 290.

R9 290 thermal limits at 94, on the reference-board design.
NOT a good idea to let them get that hot though, they're a lot happier for the long term if you can keep them down to around 80.

290 is still a good ETH mining card, though I'm not sure that's the BEST option.

I have some R9 290. But I only run them at 900mV or lower. The temperature is below 70 degree C. They are long lasting.

Re: 13 GPU Rig Power Supplies
by
Nasdam
on 12/09/2017, 09:29:00 UTC
I'm building 2 new 13x GPU rigs. I already have 1 rig like this that I'm using 2x EVGA 1300 G2s but actual wattage is a little under 1700watts. Obviously a 1000 watt & a 750 would work, or 2x 850s but not be as efficient.
So I'm wondering what would be the best combination of 110v PSUs if not 2x 1300 (sold out & higher price now)

Thanks for any suggestions:)

It is better to use two 1000W PSU. It will sue about 85% of the rated power and with higher efficiency.

Re: Bitcoin core and altcoins get dump Bitcoin Cash pumping.
by

Of course it's getting pumped because of all the news about mining profitability and hard fork fud.

If it is profitable to mine the BCC now, will the miner mine it and then dump it to drive down the price?

Ofcourse they ll hodl. What is the meaning of selling at low? Eth will not die for sure. So they can wait till they are comfortable with the price  Grin
Hodl until can earn profit, ethereum will regain its price for sure. Some hold their eth because of the price suffering downtrend. Many invest in ethereum hold can do for now and for the long term investment will earn huge profit.

Ofcourse. Whenever gpu mining for eth finishes, price will start climbing faster and faster. Eth is still one of the most promising altcoin.

I think the opposite is true. When the gpu mining finishes, the price will drop.

how can you be sure that Ethereum will go up?

It seems like it is 100% dependent on the ICO volume to even maintain its current volumes. Eth = ICO coin only, these days

That is true. When the ICO dries up, the ETH might drop.

Is this ASIC only?

-----
Sending GPU rigs sounds VERY cost prohibitive

Having x11 or scrypt miners shipped direct to you would work or a group sell..even better.  Like cloud mining but 10x better.

The Panda miner could be good to send.

Re: Fourth alt coin thread last three got oversized.
by

on 19/06/2017, 09:02:31 UTC

there is a GTX 1080 "GP-104-100" 60Mhs ETH

I'll believe that claim if I see it. There is no way they could DOUBLE the performance of a GTX 1080 on ETH while leaving it on GDDR 5x (excessive latency issues), and even if they moved it to GDDR 5 (not X) I doubt they could get it to 50 even with super-upgraded memory timings.

On the other hand, I've seen 30% power savings quoted for the GP104-100 - THAT seems possible, especially if they "factory undervolt" it at all compared to existing GTX 1080 cards.

Maybe they should get us faster memory for the ETH mining.

Re: Let's Be Honest. We Are Waiting for $100/BTC to buy
by
Nasdam

It is up to them, there is still possibility. What if the first investor in bitcoin will be upset and against bitcoin then it will result for him to dump his thousands of bitcoins and make the price very low. We can't control them and dictate to hold their bitcoins for very long time until we made a decent profit so we can sell first, no, that is not how this game works so it is better to be prepared than never.

Agree. You'll never know what will happen with Bitcoin's value as time goes by. There could exist a point where its price would massively decline, because of dumps or panic among Bitcoiners. In effect, this could make you lose your investments in Bitcoin if you've relied on it as your single asset.

That is why, it is recommended to never put all your eggs in a single basket, but to diversify your investments into other cryptocurrencies. Thus, as soon as you reach profit with Bitcoin, you could sell it for cash or invest it into Gold, to protect your investment from any undesired situation.

Always prepare for the worst possible scenario with Bitcoin, by making the right decision with your investments, and stay safe in the highly volatile cryptocurrency markets. Just my thoughts.  Grin

I think it is better to distribute the coins into several such as bitcoin, Eth, ZEC.
