Board New forum software
Re: New forum?
by

The money was well spent and theymos had every right to use it for whatever he wanted to.
Of course he had no right to "use it for whatever he wanted to" since he raised the money promising it would be used for a specific purpose. The fact that he could TECHNICALLY do whatever he wants doesn't mean that he had the right to.

A well intentioned Theymos would have refunded since that mission was well covered by a fraction of the money. Or ask the community what to do instead.

Instead, he chose to spend YEARS (LITERALLY YEARS DO YOU EVEN) developing a completely pointless brand spanking new platform that serves no real purpose.

This is textbook embezzlement, except of course no contract was signed and the only law Theymos has to abide to is human morality. I'll let you be the judge of that case.

Even if he was 100% honest and did not use the funds for any personal enrichment, any employee would be immediately fired for taking that much money and spending that much time to end up with this result, something entirely pointless that could have been done without reinventing the wheel.

AT BEST, this is a case of gross mismanagement.

The best part is that this piece of software has never been tested in a real word environment. Wait until it gets some use and some bored pentesters start poking around. It's already a liability.

The beta is a joke, right? What features are there that required spending hundreds of thousands of dollars over picking any old forum software platform? Was the feature called "sweet kickbacks"?

Re: [ANN] Spells of Genesis - Innovating the Game Economy with BitCrystals (BCY)
by

Spells of Genesis is pitched as Magic:The Gathering: Crypto Wizard edition, but really plays like a mediocre spin off of Peggle. The idea behind a crypto trading card game is great and rather obvious (with game rules built into the protocol so cheating is impossible! imagine that!), but the execution falls rather short. It will take years before the technology matures enough for something like a proper blockchain-based MTG. On the other hand, you are rather well positioned to lead the way.

Re: Bitcoin user adoption is horrible - here is why:
by
Nautica
on 16/12/2015, 18:27:30 UTC
Bitcoin adoption is low because people need to make an effort to buy Bitcoin, which not many people know how to do or even care about.

Projects like Storj.io/Sia.tech who will provide people an easy way to make some pocket money. Many will jump on the opportunity to make 5 or 10 euros a month from just leaving their computer turned on at night. This in turn will boost general crypto/bitcoin adoption.

Sorry to hear man, but any time someone asks you to send in parts, it will always be a scam.
Thank you for your suggestion. I have to say that this is something I always ask for myself, and all my other trades went successfully. I guess I have a lot to learn.

I've left a feedback on SirZelmer's profile. May I ask why you trusted him with BTC1.5 considering he's just a Full Member without any trusted feedback and on his last untrusted feedback he's being accused of scamming? Sorry to point out the obvious but you can always use escrow. If someone refuses using it then you can be sure he's trying to scam.
Probably you will need to post the whole conversion of further proof only if SirZelmer posts here with another version of the story. For the moment can you post the address where you were supposed to receive the coins along with the link to open it on the blockchain?

You are absolutely right. I am not terribly experience with forum trading, I was on a streak of successful trades and his profile seemed legit enough. I guess I let my guard down and I ignored the red flags, such as his way of addressing me. This is the first time I have a problem. Definitely a lesson to be learned here for me.

I was avoiding posting my Sia address to protect my identity a little bit. I will be happy to PM it to you if you want, and if really necessary, I can post it on here as well, but I'd rather not. Hope you understand.

SirZelmer = AgeofCrypto = Scammer !!!! Thief !!!! WARNING

What happened::

SirZelmer promised to sell 20 mil Sia in two parts. When I sent payment for the first part, he went offline and never answered.
Later, he reconnected with his alt account AgeofCrypto and tried to "sell" me more Sia.

You can tell their connection from their posting history.

AgeofCrypto posts about the same coins, only has a few posts, and left positive feedback for SirZelmer.

SirZelmer and AgeofCrypto also posted exactly the same ad for "20 mil Siacoin" in the same thread. They are the same person.

The other person that left a trust rating for SirZelmer could also be connected, but I want to research his account more before making any accusation.

What's for sure is that SirZelmer and AgeofCrypto are the same person, and that person is a scammer.

I've also tried the 0.4.0 preview for Linux (the one you got people to download through the sia client in the slack).

Issues:

When I get onto the Wallet tab, I get a "error 404 Not Found 404 - Refer to api.md" message
If I try to click the "create address" button, I get a "error 400 Bad Request unrecognised method when calling /wallet/address" message
Wallet status says "locked". If I try to click on the lock icon to unlock it, it prompts me for a password. Of course anything I enter is a "Wrong password" - I never set one in the first place.

hmm, I wonder why that is. That's not what happens for me. It means that the UI is making requests which aren't available on the API. But it also means that you're talking to the right port and everything...

The very first time you started the wallet, it gave you a password. If you just closed the window without reading it, then you'll have to delete your wallet and start over . The wallet is in Sia/app/dependencies/Sia/wallet/wallet.json

We should probably have the encryption process be more transparent, so that people don't miss this step. You aren't the only one who closed the window without writing down the password. For the time being, you don't actually set a password, it's just given to you. Most people do not pick secure passwords and a lot of Bitcoins have been stolen that way. As the project matures, we'll provide more options for picking passwords.

Hey, that's not what's happening with me.

I'm running a vanilla 14.04 Ubuntu on a VM. I'm launching a freshly unzipped Sia-GUI on a freshly rebooted instance. When I launch the app, I get a bunch of error messages. http://i.imgur.com/83Vaob4.png
I don't see anything about a password.

Running the app a second time just gives me a green thumbs up box for the app being up to date and the app starts syncing as normal. But still with the locked status and the error messages from my previous post.

That might be because I was using the 0.3.3 wallet before. Maybe something is getting mixed up with the old version wallet files that are hidden somewhere on the hard drive. Do you know where I should look? Maybe I can get rid of those and start fresh for real. But perhaps that's not even the problem. The 0.3.3 wallet files looked self contained? That's how I've been backing up my wallet... Just zipping up the ole app folder.

The strange thing is that I'm getting the same sort of behaviour on both my native OS X environment and the Ubuntu VM.

The OS X version for 0.4.0 gives me similar errors and the same locked by start thing without ever presenting me any password creation prompt.

I've also noticed there is no more option to paste the ASCII code for a file? There is no more Files tab?

Hi, this is a known issue. We are working on a fix. There will be a new release in the next few days, we hope to have copy/paste working on Mac in some form by then. It works fine on all other operating systems as far as we are aware. We apologize for not having addressed the issue earlier.

I don't have a mac to test it on, but I believe the issue has been fixed.   Smiley
Cheers. Pasting doesn't seem to work either. So please make sure you have pasting working as well. Smiley Looking forward to the new release!

Hey guys,

I'm having an issue on the OS X wallet.

I simply can't copy the address. There is no context click menu available with a Copy option. Hitting Command+C does not copy the string of characters. I would have to manually type every character one by one. I'm not going to do that. I need to be able to copy and paste addresses.
