Re: If USD falls
by

Like many powerful currencies in the past, USD may fall to ground too, my question is will that effect BTC value? Or is it independent of all other real world or non digital currencies of the world?
In my opinion, if USD falls the only way for crypto market as a whole is up. you can see the previous effects of USD crashes, most recent mar-apr-may period. Go see for yourself Smiley
I never noticed this before...I know where my money will be come december. Thank you.

More generally, what if I participate in a pool and just keep the good hashes for myself? I guess this would be strictly more profitable for me than just participating in a pool. But if every one does the same, pools should just never find a block. Right? Then: Why do pools exist in the first place?

I cannot see any Oauth feature for the Wallet section on the site. Is there anything like it planned for the future?
Thanks in advance,

Re: Bitcoin isn't worth it for consumers. And that will stop adoption.
by

Playing devils advocate here.

It's been bothering me lately, thinking about this. Consumers have absolutely no motivation to use Bitcoin. And because of that, I don't understand how it will ever go global.

All the motivation is for merchants. They avoid merchant fees. They get no chargebacks.  But they're also going to get no sales (aside from enthusiasts), because consumers have no incentive to use it, whatsoever.

Where are the perks for consumers, in a situation where they're buying something with bitcoin?

The only benefit Bitcoin brings to consumers, is money transfers. People who send money Home to their families in other countries. Bitcoin will corner the market that Western Union currently dominates. And probably put it out of business. While that is a huge industry, it's a fraction of how big Bitcoin could become if consumers used it for purchasing.

What incentive do consumers have to use Bitcoin at all? None. And because of that, it's never going to be adopted worldwide. Again, playing devils advocate here. I want to hear people's responses to this. Because in my mind, it seems to be true. And that is depressing.

You may say, it's just like cash, what motivation do people have to use cash. Or it adds a level of privacy. But these aren't significant enough benefits for a worldwide paradigm change. We're talking about adopting a new paradigm here. There needs to be incentive, for people to even bother making a huge change like this. Especially when it's more difficult than cash. More confusing than cash. More ugly than cash, requiring people to understand several decimal place fractions and other complicated things. So not only is there zero incentive to use it, but there are several reasons why they wouldn't.

There needs to be something huge, global, significant, about Bitcoin that will motivate people who buy things to say "Forget this silly cash! To the trash with my credit cards!"

Tell me why this is wrong. Pleas

Some arguments (certainly not all):

1) If BTC cuts some costs for merchants, it will for consumers too. In a competitive economy, either BTC businesses will be less expensive or BTC paid merchandise will be discounted.
2) I pay some indirect costs for having access to my traditional bank services, I cannot really send cash at a distance.
3) The value of a BTC is also a bet on the development of the ecology around the bitcoin protocol. For now what exists resembles traditional businesses. But what in the future? I am personally sure that, in the years to come, we will see flourish services that can only be proposed in BTC. Just as an tasty example, in a week, I invested in a BTC gambling site (in a currency different from the one in use in my country), made a profit and took my bitcoins (plus interest) back. I never saw that possible with money.

Une idée pour expliquer pourquoi les prix du BTC sur bitcoin-central.net sont si hauts? Ils sont encore plus hauts que sur MtGox...
Y a t-il des risques associés?
Merci

Never had a problem with this site. Though, I find the investment section rather lacking transparency (no way to check the full book for now). But, to me, payments have always been made smoothly. The complaints you can see are about the speed of cashouts if you follow the threads.
Definitely no Ponzi scheme. Actually, quite the opposite. More investors means sharing the bettors losses with more people and then earning less...
+1

Hi,
I am interested in investing 5-10 BTC for couple months but I noticed that a,lot of people complain about receiving investment "cashous". Can you please tell me why these delays are happening? I am worried this site is similar to casinobit in its investing option being similar to ponzi scheme. How long would I have to wait if I cashed out an investment of 10+? Look forward to your response thanks.

Bitcoin-central.net prices?

How come Bitcoin-central.net prices are so high? Currently, about 143€/BTC (even higher than MtGox not to mention the different available indices ). Is there any risk associated?

Have you ever thought of a way to make the investment section more transparent? In the last couple of hours, the profit of the site increased by more than 6 BTC (which is more or less confirmed by the "recent bets" section, even though it is pretty hard to say because of the sorting in this section). There are about 600 btc invested so if I understood well, it should be about a 1% increase for all investments. Still my investment increased only by about 0.7% (no commission paid in between). I may be wrong but I think it would be nice to be able to reconstruct or to have access to the (anonymous) data necessary to check for investments' returns. This would make all doubts vanish and it would really improve our investor experience.
Cheers!

bitcoin-central.net document verification

I was thrilled when I saw bitcoin-central.net reopening. Rushed to submit my documents. It has been
now more than two weeks and I am still waiting while "processing". According to their (parsimonious)
support, they blame another contractor that takes care of this registration step for them...
How frustrating! Any other such experience or I am the only one for some reason?
