Depending on what type of mineral the mining activity focuses on, one can differentiate between metallic mining - gold, silver or copper, for instance;

Precious metals should not be underestimated, referring their scope of application only to jewelry. In fact, their use covers many industries that require strength and accuracy, as well as resistance to external influences.

Only an amateur will assume that precious metals are used only in the jewelry business. They are actively used in aircraft construction, shipbuilding, rocket production. I don't think its a good idea, I presume your friend invested everything to bitcoin? if yes then he messed up for real, price speculation is not an assurance. Everybody could speculate the price of btc but always remember this market is risky and everything could turn out really bad.
Can invest in bitcoin a smaller amount and increase the number of your bitcoins by selling them on the exchange for a large price and again purchasing it later on the bottom. 500K will not be tomorrow and not after a year. There is a lot of time for trading.
