How to view the wallet's IP address? (Trying to use proxy)
by

I'm trying to use a proxy with my wallet that requires authentication.  I couldn't find a whole lot on this, but I was able to get the wallet to launch and connect to the network with the option                "-proxy=proxyusername:proxypassword@proxyaddress.com:23".  However, I'm not sure if it's working or not.  How can I check the address my wallet is using, to check if it is using the proxy?  Is there a console command or other way I can view it?  Thanks.

Lets stop discussing a FORK right now!

Before any fork. We need to have a discussion about what CRT would look like after as well as research another option.
A fork right now is only going to benefit a few and it may be better NOT to fork and just focus on a good plan for CRT going forward.

At this point, Im pausing on the fork talk until we have a solid longterm plan for CRT.

Please send me a pm if you are interested in being on the lead team as well.
I don't think a fork would help much, there's minimal support as there is.

Any news CRT ? where is Pool this coin ?
I'm fairly certain there aren't any pools open right now, nor have there been for a while.  Solo mining would be easily possible but the wallet won't sync for anyone so that's out too.

Any known working nodes?  I'm having some problems syncing up my wallet... I haven't opened it since 2 months ago.  I have quite a bit of CRT I'll probably just end up giving away if I can get my wallet synced up.

Best and Cheap Scrypt Mining Hardware?
by
NoahWL1
on 12/09/2015, 04:58:17 UTC
Over the years I've mined plenty of SHA-256 coins, but I've never really got into Scrypt since I only have a laptop and, well, obviously mining on a laptop is bad.  Of course it would just be cheaper to buy Scrypt coins right now than mine them, but that's not fun.  So what I'm wondering is, what would be the best budget Scrypt miner?  I'm looking to stay in the $40 range.  It looks like right now the best I can get is a Gridseed or two for that price, but I thought I'd ask in case there's a miner I haven't heard of.

Is nobody mining this anymore?  Maybe my wallet is broken, but it looks like I'm the only one with my little USB miners.

Wow, my CPU is a lot worse than I thought it would be at this.  However, CPUMiner is only using around 30% of my CPU, odd.  Is anyone else having this issue?  The built-in miner seems to be doing fine, is there any way I can check the hashrate of it?

Be sure to set the value after -T to number of threads on intel, or number of cores on amd. This will utilize all of your processors potential.

couldnt you in theory drop the -t all together and let it run wild ?
It looks like it defaults to 2 threads by default, so from what I can tell no.

I solo mine 1 day a week... I may switch it out to 4 days in a row per month
I'd do that but I don't think I can set my hardware to do that automatically.  I'd end up forgetting.  Although maybe with cronjobs or something...

There are 185 separate users mining on my solo mining service averaging ~1PH in total.
Should be 186 now, thanks for making your service, it's pretty cool.

there is no reason to solo mine tbh... It's just Coal which has to be burned to produce the electricity in the end..

Sell the miner and buy several lotto tickets from the money. The Odds wining something reasonable there are higher...
I see reason in it.  For one, it's a fun project.  Two, there is a chance, no matter how small.  There's also that accomplishment that would feel awesome in the end.  How many people can say they mined a block solo at this difficulty?  (Besides those warehouses full of miners, they don't count haha)

I solo mine on ck.'s solo pool.  I've got 5 U2s constantly pointing there.  I point my S3s there every now and then.  I was part of a few groups that pooled our resources together to rent some decent hash power and point it there.  I've never found anything on my own, but the group I was with found a couple blocks and with my share, made back what I invested in the rentals.
I think I'll have to do that, I'm about to run out of space on my RaspBerry Pi since the wallet is so big.

Is Anyone Else Solo Mining?

So I got bored one day and dug out my old Rockminer r-box (the old 36Gh/s one) and my 3 Antminer U2s, running at around 2Gh/s each.  I set up a Bitcoin node on my Raspberry Pi and along with CGMiner, I now have them solo mining just for the fun of it.  I'm sure I won't find anything but it's mostly just for fun.  If I get bored I might throw them up on a rental site like betarigs or something.  Is anyone else solo mining with similar or even much better hardware?  I have an S1 and 2 S3s running on a pool, I'm not willing to take those down to play the lottery.

well sollar energy as wind would be the way to be able to roi but how many time you think withoyt pay eletricity would take 1 year? more less with the current price of 230 dollars.... would be better to sell and buy it ?

Don't forget that with solar and wind (or any other electricity source you buy and generate your own) you will have to ROI on the investment for that device too, on top of the miner. Essentially, it only extends your ROI and makes your income higher after the break-even point, where the difficulty probably would have already risen.
Very true, but a miner that mines for free is never obsolete so theoretically you could keep mining forever.  Technically you'll always make your ROI eventually, although as you have said because of difficulty rises and other factors like price that could take some time.  I really only think green/free energy is the way to go for people that really want to get into mining but have really high power costs or people who don't care as much about the money as they do the fun of mining and other cool and interesting projects.

The thing is that your miner will mine less and less every month and your income will gradually reduce.  Eventually to a point where you can already call your miner obsolete. At this point you are "wasting" your renewable energy on something that is not profitable. For example, I could sell the electricity for 15c/kWh, but by using it for mining if I make less than 15c/kWh of Bitcoins, then I am losing money (wasting energy that could be sold).
If my expenses are double for the same income (understand: I have to invest in e.g. solar plus the miner) then the ROI will be longer, for sure. However, since your income is gradually decreasing (linearly or maybe even exponentially!) you may never even make a ROI  if you keep your miner running.

I think investing in solar/wind is a good opportunity, I just don't see why it would have to be combined with mining, apart if it is a hobby project then for sure it is fun. For me these 2 will be separate investments. The idea of having "free" energy from renewable seems very appealing, but I am not sure if I couldn't rent a place with cheap electricity that would make more economical sense and give me a fast ROI at the end of which I'd sell the miner and invest in a new technology.
I hadn't thought of it that way before, seems you're right.  I guess it's the only way to go if your electricity is super high, you can't sell to the grid, AND you like Bitcoin mining as a hobby.

I'm working on setting up a cheap solar-powered Bitcoin miner.  It's going to run one of my three U2's I have collecting dust by pairing a solar-charged 4000mAh battery bank, a USB solar panel charger to charge the battery bank along with its built-in panel, and a Raspberry Pi or TL-MR3020 router with OpenWRT to control the U2.  I'll add more solar panels so I can have a powered USB hub and the other U2s run later.  It definitely won't generate a lot of Bitcoins, but hey!  No more power costs of leaving my PC on 24/7!  It'll also be a fun little project.
Did you start yet? I have 2 nanofurys and I want to do the same. My thought was to use a panel from harbor freight tools 15 watt panel which more could be added later. Some people do say to not waist your time on these panels and just by  one bigger one similar to Solarcities yet won't invest until it works. I also liked Teslas battery maybe a small time electrician would install it one day.

My other solar project was a solor powered flood light with the little solar panel clipped to the rain gutter using the plastic Christmas light clips. This system can be used for the 15watt panel too. Might try the corner of the house first.

Not sure where to start first. Probably panels first and attached to the corner siding or temp post at the corner of the house. first step would be to make sure I get 6 hours of charging time.

My battery was going to be the charged battery jumpers. Those are good for plugging led flood lights if you have to work on the car or power goes out for awhile. One small problem is it stopped taking a charge so we will see if solar power can trickle charge it. Funny probably used it once to jumpstart an actual car battery.

List of things to buy.
Centech 5-in-1 Portable Power Pack with Jump Start (battery and power converter builtin)
Thunderbolt 15 watt solar panel kit

Yep, I haven't done a lot of work on it since cause I've been pretty busy with some other stuff, but here's the thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1077811.msg11510674#msg11510674.  It's basically finished, just needs a few more optimizations.  I'll finish it eventually, but like I said I'm pretty busy.  The skies have been pretty cloudy lately anyways, so I'm not in a rush.
