Re: The "Vladimir Club"

Where did Vladimir go? I really enjoyed reading his posts.
Hiding for his own safety, because public display of wealth makes you a target for people you really don't want to meet.

Nah.

Where did Vladimir go? I really enjoyed reading his posts.
Either that or he cannot bothered with posting here anymore. Most early investors have gone that route.

His sig points to this explanation. I cannot be bothered posting on this forum either, hence the brief hiatus. Too many stay-at-homes on this forum trying their hand at speculating only to get it wrong time after time. Used to be quite an intelligent forum here.

Another thing, did Vladimir ever spell his name "Vlad1m1r"? Didn't know if it was the same Vla1m1r or not, then I read about the Ponzi scheme and everything falls neatly into place. Vlad, if you're reading this, maybe you should have stood up for yourself more about this issue than taking shit from people. You took a punt, lost, admit and move on.

For the record, I hope you did really take Tunbear's money. I always hated that fucking prick. (Glad Homeland did something useful for a change and took the market down.)

Re: Some thoughts on Bitcoin regulation...

One of the most forward arguments put forward is that it will crush underground markets, but it will still continue because cryptocurrency will never be the only means to procure these items.

But more fundamentally, bitcoin was invented to bypass these restrictions in the first place. What would Satoshi say if he/she/they were still actively and publicly involved in bitcoin?

Probably to f**k off.

thanks for the update. Smiley they are one day late, but better late than never.

Question is... are people ready to recommence trading or are they spooked by what happened this weekend?

Re: Petition To Remove Mark Karpeles From The Bitcoin Foundation Board

Signed

I, for one, will never do any sort of business with Mr. Karpeles again. The immeasurable harm that he's done to Bitcoin based on his own gross incompetence and misunderstanding is unacceptable. As far as I'm concerned, he should be completely exiled from the Bitcoin community.

I think he realises this. It is doubtful he will release anyone's funds and perhaps less doubtful he will buy up the coins himself when they crash through the floor on gox.

As I saw from a recent interview from a Londoner with stuck coins, he couldn't care less and seems to be deferring any talks with any unhappy customers, indicating a high possibility of a runner once the media attention dies down. Until then, he's content to sit in his cstle and ride it out. Undecided

Re: Silk Road 2.0 hacked through malleability, ~4000 BTC STOLEN
by
NordicMoose
on 15/02/2014, 10:07:44 UTC
Think they just saw it as a way to easily blame a hack because the coins they had was a nice chunk of change and running with it now means less likely to get caught. At end of the day the guy who ran it for years that never stole any coins ended up in a cell & his 100k BTC aren't much use there.

I can't see how this would of happened any other way than the admins taking the funds. Why would it of been setup with an automated system to check stuck transactions rather than have a human look at it. They also claim they knew about exchanges having issues & knew what the issue was so surely if they had an automated system that can re-send funds when it thinks the transaction didn't go through surely he would of shut it down or turned it off.

I'm sure most people in his position would take the money & run.

Except, they did get caught. dpr2 and defcon has run off with members' coins, are being slammed around their own forum, no wait, Ross's forum --  and they are pissed. Guess the lesson is don't deal with a darknet, especially one with a bad track record. As for all these idiots pretending to know what they are talking about based on number of posts, it's getting really boring. Maybe hit the gym a bit. Smiley

Silk road wasnt hacked. The owners took off with the coins, were duly exposed and now the forum is awash with thread after thread of distraught memmbers who are understandably after his blood. admin and mods tried to blame transaction malleability and  alleged the entire funds had been stolen under their noses.

you know, I really hate it when people come on here and start threads without checking the facts first.

Wow, a member for less than a month, and already complaining about people not checking facts!!  Roll Eyes

Lol. Er, yeah, I have been a member of bitcoin forum for less than a month and that means I'm automatically wrong about something I post does it? Maybe you should check your own facts before you write or people might start thinking you're a complete idiot. Wink

Correction, it dropped to 672.00 after I hit post. No, it's too unpredictable atm. Don't rush in at the magic 700 mark, it's going to come down further I promise by the afternoon.

just bounced from 649.00 to 695.00 in minutes, its a global currency and I expect to see 750+ by morning.

I am looking to buy in the morning :-)

MrD

Make that 619.00, it didn't take long at all to rebound. Time to optimally buy is past, it's already 707.01 as I type this. You might be right about going past 750, its swinging massively at the moment.

Why this is CRASHING Huh

(1) Another two large countries with oppressive governments banned Bitcoin: Russia and Apple.

(2) Mt.GOX showed the world that bitcoiners are no better than bankers.

Wow. And you said I was one behind the news. Roll Eyes Where the hell do you get your news from? From a little red indian on horseback, 3 years after the event? It had nothing to do with Russia, that happened in January.

Wake up, it's 2014 already.  You are already late for the real world.

Maybe you should wake up yourself mate. Cheesy Do you even know what you are talking about? Go google "bitcoin" there's a nice description and shiny pics if you stay there long enough. Roll Eyes

It's not crashing anymore, bitcoin actually skyrocketed back up again 30 minutes ago. Not all the way back, but from around 620.

You're kidding right? Head over to MtGox and read their latest "statement". Don't forget apple bans bitcoin apps and support for existing ones.

Russia bans Bitcoin Huh

We have already gone over this. Russia banned bitcoin a good time ago, nothing to do with it.

Until there is a legitimate Bitcoin exchange that is located in the United States and is certified to do business in all 50 states and abides by all the regulations set by the SEC or whoever, I do not think Bitcoins can maintain a higher price... I do not know why people continue to spam its gonna go up to 2k when almost every bitcoin exchange method is either reliant on Bitstamp or simply localbitcoin.

I really don't think the U.S. is the best place to start a new exchange right now with this latest bitcoin witchunt. U.K. and Europe are bitcoin's only hope really. U.S. was where they arrested Ross and precipitated all this madness with their FUD that has done so much damage.

And bitcoin cannot be regulated by the way. New York can type up whatever they want on their court ledgers but they don't count as bitcoin is not dependent upon regulation, that is the reason it was created in the first place.

I think cavirtex is pretty stable Cheesy Canada likes the U.S $, there is also Vault of Satoshi, originally only dealt with u.s.d wires, think it has cash deposit it cad and usd now at BMOs or via*

I mean, all in all gox has failed to offer reasonable proof and information regarding the true slowness in withdrawals. Then running into a btc withdrawal issues is like asking for a crisis lol.

Annoying too, it's in CAD grrr... :[ All the U.S. exchanges have to either blindly comply or play hopscotch with U.S. regulations. This is a serious drawback. A far better base would be in London or EU.

As for Mt Gox, well we knew this was coming didn't we? Of course there is no reason for their "technical issues". Their technical issue is that they have been scamming since mid last year. They are not just slow, but on hiatus. Why did so many people put into MtGox before researching them? The information was here if they looked hard enough for it.

haha, yeah, no stop losses (sadly)

it might be the apple ban, if you really wanna guess, or gox maybe

I think apple bitcoin apps ban had something to do with it, yeah, and screw them for that unfounded decision, but it had more to do with Mt Gox's recent near admission to scamming. Now it has got to the point that they know that we know, and they are not really pretending anymore.

Or maybe word has got out that if they get involved with bitcoining they will be forced to listen to MatTheCat's "shorting" every 5 minutes and hae given up. Lips sealed

Re: WARNING: PAYPAL STARTED MASSIVE ACCOUNT BAN ON ANYTHING BITCOIN RELATED
by
NordicMoose
on 07/02/2014, 08:24:17 UTC
If this is a surprise, you did not do your due diligence.  Paypal has acted this way for a decade for less risky items than BTC.

Ebay, ok.  Paypal, wtf people?

To be fair, PayPal are subsidiaries to eBay, like vadoff and myself both stated, the CEO was initially for it. ("Comm error"? Nah.) And this is a harsh lesson against leaving large sums in PayPal. Get it moved as soon as possible.
