So... it's been a good few years now. What am I seeing? After 10 years, this IS the most exciting time for bitcoin. From nothing to over $6000 - das some impressive moving. There was even a few big spikes along the way and one of em almost $20k!! That'll tell you what kind of price this thing can hit when it's not even finished finding its legs. If we're too stupid to ignore signs like that then we deserve to miss out is what I'm sayin here.

Speculation aside, anyone else here using BTC as long term savings/store of value?

It seems like Bitcoin is unable to maintain its highs and rallies for too long. They're getting more and more brief, and are getting lower each time. That means if whales keep playing their pump and dump games, they're gonna be dumping from much shallower heights, and we could hit some new lows.

But don't expect it to go as low as $4k. Because the same reason why there's no strong rallies anymore, is the reason there's not gonna be that big of a panic either. There's just no volume anymore, and the interest and trading has gone flat. So there's not enough activity, to have any more major crashes.

What do you mean by "truly exponential"? There are an infinite number of exponential functions that can be defined: ex, e0.5*x, 2x, 3x, etc. just to name a few. One can dream up and curve fit a number of exponential functions to Bitcoin's price data over time. OP is curve fitting the data to some exponential function from 2011 to 2021 (which is linear on a log scale).

For years now the crashes follow the peaks, and there's usually been a pretty significant bear market in between. Hopefully we'll get the hype back on some upcoming developments and the next crash will be after another ath. Either way, we've been here before and the bottom does seem to be holding at 6kish. There's a hell of a lot more to consider than bot trading though!

It honestly wouldn't surprise me if more than 11 million Bitcoin are lost forever. 10 Million circulating supply is what I expect once hyperbitcoinization happens.

Considering the mining costs, exchange fees, scams, frauds, damaged or lost keys, whales and their manipulations, mathematically won't more people lose money than profit in crypto long term? Can't wrap my mind around this one.

If you're a whale and want to dump a big position:

Step 1: Pump the market by small buys on light volume and drive the price up.

Step 2: When the suckers see the run up and think that they can get rich quickly, then dump as quickly as you can before the market falls too much.

Step 3: Repeat.

Of course, this only works so long as there are enough suckers who will buy as the price is increasing.

the great thing is that Bitcoin lets you be your own bank.. but you don't have to be! You just need to do your due diligence if you're going to trust a "bitcoin bank," much like how back before the FDIC, people needed to know how a bank was doing financially before deciding to open an account.
at the moment, we're not at the point where we can fully rely on any custody services. we're still in the "enthusiast phase".

I dont think its at a discount at all. I can see Eth going to $150 and then down to $90. I kept hearing NEO was a steal at $89. Then $79. Then you were crazy to not buy at $59...and well, we know where NEO is now. Buying the dips in a bear market is a recipe for disaster. You do that in a bull market. We are in a bear market. Only way BTC goes to $4K is to bleed out the rest of the alts/shitcoins. BTC seems to be in really good shape around 6K. Just waiting for every other alt to die off (same at DOTCOM boom) so one will raise again. BTC is the "stable coin" everyone is searching for
