Re: 30+? Name one mistake you did to help others
by

When I was younger I would let people's opinions of my ideas influence me whether or not I should pursue them.  In the 90s I had a small business with a friend building customer computers for customers.  I had a falling out with my business partner because I wanted to invest our profits in Apple computers in an effort to grow into something more real and he wanted to spend our profits on things like clothes.  We drifted our separate ways and that eventually destroyed our business.  Later I wanted to invest in an idea bringing goods from distributors that sold their goods by mailing product lists to people, to the internet.  I was told it was a dumb idea and I listened.  A few years later, Amazon.com became a thing...  When I discovered Bitcoin, I instantly emailed everyone I knew about it and asked if anyone wanted to get involved in it with me.  They all told me it was a waste of time, a scam, and they were too busy to get involved with such things.  Luckily, I wasn't going to let people talk me out of this one.  I pursued it and it changed my life.

So my advice to young people is to chase your dreams.  Support your ideas and don't let anyone talk you out of building meaningful things or making good investments.  Fail or succeed on your own ideas.  Otherwise, you will have regrets.  I should have bought Apple shares at $4 and I should have created an Amazon clone before Amazon existed.  I do not regret getting involved with Bitcoin.

The same exact friend who split up our business because he didn't want to invest in Apple at $4, told me selling goods online would never catch on, and that Bitcoin was a scam, recently bought the Bitcoin top then sold at $78K and told me how dumb Bitcoin was.  All he owns now is XRP and some memecoins.  We're going higher...

We are in calm waters right now after a very good and moved week.

I don't think things are very calm at all.  We're seeing a battle between bulls and bears right now about the direction of the market.  Every day I see more reports of someone using leverage to make a billion dollar bet one way or the other.  We're also in a position where if we do not break the all time high soon and instead drop below $100K, it could be viewed as a rejection and lower highs, which would be bad.

Of course, with the amount of capital estimated to enter the crypto markets over the next few months, as long as nothing stops that then this train should be moving higher.

No NBA Playoff basketball today.  Kind of a bummer.  First day in the playoffs so far...  That means the season is winding down and we had better enjoy every minute that is left.  Sunday brings us a great game 7 between the Nuggets and Thunder, then another off day...  With Aaron Gordon in doubt for game 7, this rest day might be good for them, but the Thunder definitely have an opportunity with Gordon being out.  Gordon has saved the Nuggets from multiple losses already this postseason.  Tomorrow's game (on ABC) will be a good one!

Here's a crazy report saying that Giannis wants to go play for the Toronto Raptors or the New Jersey Nets...  I find this a little hard to believe that he would resign with either team but you never know.  Maybe he wants to pull a Kawhi and lead the Raptors to the championship in a one and done scenario.  That honestly seems more possible than him wanting to play out the rest of his career in Canada.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nba/report-giannis-antetokounmpo-interested-in-playing-for-raptors-and-nets/ar-AA1EN9EX

I think this would actually be a smart move for Giannis.  He probably shouldn't get traded to the team he wants to stay with because it would rob that team of its assets.  Playing out next year in a place he can have fun and then signing a monster deal with a new franchise to join an already loaded team would be the right move for him if you ask me.

Re: What is the best advise to give to a poor person to be rich?
by
OgNasty
on 15/05/2025, 19:38:05 UTC
I guess if I were giving a poor person advice on getting rich I would tell them this.  You are directly compensated for the difficulty of the problems you solve.  Gambling, trading, scamming...  These aren't solving problems and that is why the people who do them traditionally lose all their money or are broke.

If you want to get rich, solve a difficult problem.  If you want to be wealthy, keep ownership in a business that solves a difficult problem.  If you want to be poor, keep spending your time trying to get rich.

Change the world and get rich by default.  Try to get rich and the world will change you.

If I can show I still have my old login for BTC guild and prove I was mining would the old admin give a crumb of compassion if he saw that I never got my coins? I just didn't follow up and knew not about the project shutdown.

I would say it is very unlikely they would refund you coins that you forgot to take out.

I would agree with this take.  That is a long time and with Bitcoin's insane valuation increase, no matter how often people want to repeat it, 1 BTC does NOT equal 1 BTC.  At best, you could probably sue someone and try to recover the USD amount, but I'm certain that wouldn't be worth the effort for you or you wouldn't have left it there in the first place.

People don't seem to understand that Bitcoin isn't like the dollar.  When you spend Bitcoin, it is legally valued at the USD rate at the time of transfer.  You can't expect someone to honor your BTC price from a decade ago.

Re: Roger Ver could easily be vindicated
by

I don’t like him, his whole Bitcoin fork to BCH shenanigans during the fork war leaves a bad taste. I think he’s a narcissistic control freak but I think the US & IRS should leave him alone. He’s followed everything required of him & they should really just leave him be.

Having this opinion means you don't understand what happened with the blocksize wars or you don't understand how open source projects work.  There is no reason to be mad at Roger Ver for forking Bitcoin.  The entire business community in Bitcoin was wanting bigger blocks and the development team didn't keep their word to increase the blocksize once they tricked miners into activating segwit.

Roger didn't do anything wrong.  You can even see in his emails he was telling his lawyer to take every precaution to make sure this didn't happen to him.  I think they're just punishing him in any way they can, which right now is keeping him locked in a hotel in Spain.  Just let the guy live his life.  He's done more for Bitcoin adoption than probably 99.999% of the users on this forum.

Re: Should you bet on the underdogs?
by

on 15/05/2025, 19:16:32 UTC
I wouldn't make the blanket statement that you should bet on underdogs, but you should always remember you're betting against the odds, not the teams.  There is always a good bet you should take on either team involved in a game depending on the odds.  One team getting a massive spread you think they can cover?  Is a star player's return being bet wildly because of his fanbase?  Make sure you always weight the odds and decide for yourself if a bet is good or bad, not necessarily the outcome.  Give me 1,000,000,000,000 to 1 odds that I can beat Michael Jordan in a pickup game and I'm taking me all day long.

Re: Michael Saylor Keeps Buying Bitcoin
by

Saylor seems intent on buying Bitcoin until he gets liquidated.  The market just needs to give him a big enough bubble to get himself in trouble.  Someone out there is going to sell their Bitcoin at the top, short Strategy, make a fortune on the way down, then buy the bottom when these treasury companies start getting liquidated and get absolutely wealthy.  Until then, dance while they music is playing, but I don't see any other way this story ends.  Strategy seems destined to turn Bitcoin into the .com boom/bust.  Make sure you profit from what is coming...

Lets get some more eyes on this folks.  Ross' items are still dirt cheap and while there is still a lot of time left on the auctions, it isn't a bad thing to be a participant even if you don't win.  I have no desire to use the Lightning Network, so I unfortunately can't bid, but I hope that we do see some involvement from members here.  Who knows, maybe if you're comfortable with the platform you could win one of these auctions and resell it here for actual Bitcoin on the blockchain instead of Lightning IOUs.  I feel like you'd probably get higher bids...  Good luck!

Re: Buying a TESLA CYBERTRUCK with BITCOIN

Just updated the Cybertruck with FSD v13.2.9.  No new features really (some minor life improvement things) but the FSD is always slightly improved.  Here's a clip I saw on X of FSD swerving outside of it's lane to avoid some debris in the road.  This is a pretty nice improvement.  I'll be happy when I can summon the vehicle or no longer have to pay attention while it's driving, but it's also nice to see improvements like this make their way into the system.  Few things excite me as much as seeing a FSD update hit my truck these days.

Oh good grief.

Nothing to worry. It's just a new norm for us now.

Well, everyone will get to see that I took out loan against some of my Bitcoin to buy the last dip.  Smiley

Seriously though, this is pretty messed up.  Now the world is going to know I'm an Ethereum holder (Disclaimer: I was given a double digit amount of ETH nearly a decade ago and left it on Coinbase).

The market seems to be mostly shrugging off this news so far.  I'd hate to see our rally derailed, but we have gotten slightly ahead of M2 on "the chart" so a little sideways or slight downward action isn't the end of the world so long as we break $109K before heading back down to retest lows.

Ben Simmons is heading back to Australia for the offseason.  He's a free agent now so anything could happen with him.  After falling out of the rotation for the Clippers in the playoffs though, I wouldn't be shocked if he never signs another NBA contract.

The Lakers are making news trying to hire a new strength and conditioning coach.  Presumably to get Luka in top shape.  I think next year is possibly LeBron's last, so Los Angeles better make some drastic roster moves if they want any chance of getting him one more championship.

Re: 2025 NBA Season

I'm watching the Celtics vs Knicks Game 5 right now it's only the 2nd quarter, but I can already say that this series might end tonight. We all know Jayson Tatum is injured, and it's unlikely this will even reach a Game 7. Although during the regular season, the Celtics still managed to win even without Tatum playing. But this time, it really looks tough. So, if the Knicks win this, the Eastern Conference Finals will be Knicks vs Pacers. If it does end up being Knicks vs Pacers in the East Finals, I'll go with the Pacers to make it to the Finals against either OKC or the Wolves.

I did not expect we would see what we’re seeing here. Brunson is gone already and they’re trailing by more than 20 points. I guess Boston decided to step up without their leader and take this series to another game. Kudos to them. 1-3 is a tough deficit to recover from though.

I spent most of last night and today dealing with my sick bro-in-law

a 7am mri
a 3 pm sonogram

it looks as if he had a mini stroke.

I will be driving back home later tonight

I’m sorry to hear that. I hope that things go as well as they can for him. I have heard that a stroke can be difficult to recover from. Good luck and drive safe.

Pushing on a Wednesday… Bitcoin bouncing around at $103K. We’re getting close to satoshi’s target. Smiley

I think today will be a day of eliminations. Sadly, without Tatum and Curry the Celtics and Warriors just aren’t top tier teams. With both of them down 1-3 and their backs against the wall without their stars, I wouldn’t go crazy with the expectations. The Knicks and Timberwolves will be looking to end the series here and get some rest.

Re: TRUMP: 2025 Bitcoin's price will be $200,000.
by
OgNasty
on 14/05/2025, 21:03:28 UTC
I wonder where the name TRUMP came in the title? The title looks like Trump said the price of Bitcoin will be 200K in 2025, which is misleading. I don't think anyone believes Bitcoin will reach 200K in 2025. Bitcoin might reach $200K price range in the future, but it will take a while. I do not expect Bitcoin to reach 200K before 2027. The halving event won't affect the price anymore since the scarcity won't increase much.

As for Trump, people will realize that he is not good for Bitcoin and the crypto market. He started the trade war which affected the entire global market. Now he says no inflation. LOL.

I agree that the subject having Trump in the title makes no sense. However, it did get more engagement as a result so welcome to the wonderful world of trolling.

Saying it can’t hit $200K this year is wild though. If the US passes a bill to buy a million BTC, states continue to accumulate, Apple/Amazon/Microsoft all start stacking… We teleport to $700K tomorrow. I’m not saying this will happen, but I think $200K is possible and probably more than 20% likely to happen.

People don’t even get banned for doxxing here. You can literally dox someone, attempt to extort them, spread lies about them, try to have them robbed or killed, and the Administration will urge forgiveness. I get the whole freedom of speech thing, but there comes a point when you are turning a blind eye to abuse because you are a pussy, not a proponent of freedom.

Michael Porter Jr was allegedly subject to NBA investigation due to his 2 points game that connect him to prop betting.

There’s no reliable source on the social media post for this news so I’m skeptical on the authenticity of this news. But his performance is very poor recently including all those air ball 3 and lots of open shot miss.

His brother Jontay was involved too on match fixing and banned on NBA now.

What game was that? The Nuggets are trailing in that series so I would find it shocking if players were betting against themselves. I promise you he wants another ring more than he wants more money. I would need more specifics and to rewatch the game to believe it. Not MPJ. He is too rich for this nonsense.

Re: Referees decision affects gambling
by

It should be effect as in having an effect on the outcome. Not affect, like showing affection. That is typically used when referring to emotions, which doesn’t seem to be the intent here.

That being said, it does suck when the referees decide the winner of a match. Rules are rules though, even when they aren’t always appropriate.
