Re: The Official Mastercoin Foundation, Master Protocol & Mastercoin Thread

As one of the earliest supporters of mastercoin I was disappointed when the offer from the counterparty guys to help mastercoin was turned down for whatever reason, all is not lost but to re-attain the lost market lead at this point will be a feat.

I am back with an offer, this offer is not exclusive to omni but it could help with utility. This offer is about a project built on smart contracts and doesn't use the omni infrastructure but it could improve omni utility.

What I have:
A consumer facing product spec to disrupt a $6-10 billion a year industry and growing
Over a year and half of painstaking research and development
A whitepaper, being internally reviewed.
The whitepaper will be passed around to be peer reviewed next week
A client in development with a focus on beautiful and responsive user experience
A a video demo of client
A team of 5 extra developers

Information will be announced in less than 2 weeks.

Again this project does not build on omni and does not intend to. The offer is also not exclusive to Omni, any coin can integrate its functionality. However, it will improve the utility of omni/mastercoins if devs if devs choose to collaborate, successful integration could be a use case for omni. I am hoping the right people will reach out.

Peace and happy new year!

Two words: too expensive

The wallet has o ton of cool features....Only time can tell if it's too expensive or dirt cheap.

Anyway, bitcoins where very expensive at $5 / coin, 2 years ago.

Your pricing is greedy and too expensive, furthermore you will earn most of the interest because of your 5% stake...It will be impossible for most to compete against your stake in leveling out distribution because of your structure of increasing pricing points...whats more you will almost be obsolete and scratching for marketshare by the time you are ready to launch because you are alienating most of your market with your greedy pricing...wanna know why? there are at least 4 to 5 projects or more in the same space launching in days and weeks I will point you to a few, word of advise: listen to your potential patrons, Goodluck.

Anyone wants to join me with marketing, then lets work out a plan together!
I would like to join the marketing effort.
1) First bounty: Goes to gambler or group of gamblers who can win a certain amount of CHA within a specified timeframe
sounds fun - any numbers in mind?
1st and 2nd place

I meant what is the amount of CHA, what is the timeframe and what is the prize?  Smiley

This is an incentive driven world the so the prizes have to be worth it..I would say 1st price at least 5btc worth of CHA, 2nd price would be half of that...The timeframe could be 1 month. Would really need to rally to get the fund together though...I pledge 300 CHA still in burn address.

side note: Thanks again to the devs vision to find a way to reduce the amount of hops for new users to engage with the platform while still keeping demand for CHA, in fact the new automatic order placement will skyrocket CHA value

Anyone wants to join me with marketing, then lets work out a plan together!

I already made a pledge long ago, but I propose three bounties of which I will rededicate the CHA pledge:

1) First bounty: Goes to gambler or group of gamblers who can win a certain amount of CHA within a specified timeframe

2) Second Bounty: Goes to the person or first group of people to get enough measurable and effective cross forum sharing on similar crypto related/gaming forums to spread the news about the new capabilities and opportunities. No spam policy though

3) Third to the person who can organize and get major publications and press releases / social media engagement in major news outlets not limited to coindesk, bitcoin magazine, business insider etc...

Of course these are just suggestions that can be replaced or built upon, but it can also be a starting point marketing strategy to Chancecoin as there are no visible ones at the moment.

We're really excited to announce that we'll be releasing instant betting by the end of tomorrow. We've also been working on some of the other features we've mentioned recently, but we want to get instant betting out as soon as possible.
Magician
Epic! You guys are beasts. Insanely fast and efficent.

totally agree!
keep up the great work it will pay off  Cheesy

any update concerning transaction chaining?

This version will also include transaction chaining. Scheduled for release tomorrow morning.  Smiley

Really great work ,devs!

 Smiley

Version 2.4 is now live! Your client should automatically update. It will re-download the database, which should take about three minutes, and you'll see "Chancecoin is parsing transactions" while it is happening. Give it a try and let us know what you think.

New features:
  • Instant betting (we're talking about <10 seconds) -- try it!
  • Transaction chaining
  • Better card images
  • Improved client speed (~4X faster on average)

Magician
Awesome, thanks for the hardwork

I think we are in the tough situation now, however, we are better than other coins which are not launched yet.  ;-)

You don't mean LottoShares do you?
Just launched -
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=694341.0

its better for the devs to take time to implement a solid system..at this point in time I don't know if first to market is really a factor because there is so much noise for attention, yet not may ease of use or easy transitioning systems...you may have launch but there are far more efficient and faster systems launching in a few hours:  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=523187.msg7832377#msg7832377 lotto, dicegame, multigateway exchange from btc to nxt and other currencies...

chancecoin devs should definitely take time to come up with the best implentation they can....

It still doesn't take away from the point that I am trying to make:

Incorporating BTC will bring about the reduction in demand for CHA which will directly affect price and growth. Concentrate on each of use and enhance the games, increase the odds of wining (like you did), provide awesome prizes to winners ...i offered 300 CHA somewhere...a donation for this can be setup.

Your point is important and I am sure the Devs will take it into account seriously.

I think it's hard to predict the outcome of such a move because it might bring new players to gamble with chancecoin wallet and exposure which is much needed at this point.
I am sure that afterwards we can find ways to incentivize the use of chancecoin over btc. (like reduce house edge for chancecoin and the ability to be the "gambler" and the "house" and probably more innovative ideas).

In my opinion I agree that the user experience (speed of bets etc) and flow (the process a new user has to go from the moment he hears about chancecoin until he start gambling) still needs a lot of work to get to were PrimeDice is, and because the Devs time is limited I think this should be given higher priority.

p.s: Ola its nice to see you here, I have a lot of respect to you and hope you will continue to be more active member in chancecoin community.

My thought is that incorporating BTC the way we're planning to do it will increase demand for CHA because every BTC wagered will be instantly turned into CHA by buying it at the market price (in this casino liquidity book). It's just a way to make it easier for people to participate if they're starting with a wallet that only has BTC or are used to using centralized BTC casinos and aren't willing to make the jump if it involves buying CHA on an exchange first and doing some footwork to get started.

As for your point on user experience, I definitely hear your point. I've tried Primedice and Just-Dice back when they were still operating with BTC. They're lucky that they don't have to maintain the decentralized aspect -- it certainly is easier to make the betting instant when the casino is centralized. That being said, I do think it's important for betting to be faster than it is now. We're almost certainly going to do one of the following:

 - Move to a faster blockchain.
 - Make our own faster blockchain.
 - Invent some new solution that lets gamblers resolve bets rapidly offline, like some kind of electronic choose your own adventure scratch card.

Magician

- Move to a faster blockchain.

I want to invite you to NXT...as a matter of fact you would get a lot of exposure from this move as nxt is already establishing relationships with more formal business entities..for example, Gocoin will integrate NXT within the next couple of weeks...you will instantly gain a host of supporters and rabid promoters for your innovation...there are to many positive developments with NXT at the moment to list, But I think you should consider it strongly..

and oh vitalik buterin just confirmed that ethereum's version to proof of stake is basically what NXT had been working on and testing (parts of transparent forging)...which makes nxt one of the grandfathers of innovation in this space..get the lowdown here: http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/29yyjm/proofofstake_and_distributed_consensus_are/

agreed if any innovative idea that enables btc use but still keeps demand up for CHA will be great to see. Someone just had to say it before any mistake is made which would in turn take an enormous amount of time to fix...

User experience and "flow" plus marketing are definitely limiting exposure right now...those should be priority over anything else.

I think its important to only use CHA as the only base currency...concentrate on making a fast, easily accesible interface and users will naturally acquire CHA to participate...diluting the demand for CHA by incorporating BTC is a mistake you are about to repeat already made by the Counterparty devs.  Look at their awesome innovation yet compare their market capitalization to Mastercoin's
This is actually a bad example because right now if you look at coinmarketcap Counterparty has bigger ROI than Mastercoin.

[You need to remember that mastercoin crowd sell was in July-Aug sending a total of about 5000 bitcoins worth about US$500,000 at the time. Counterparty burning bitcoins was in Jan-Feb 2014 and about 2,130 bitcoin worth about US$2,000,000 were burned.
Meaning that mastercoin started with more than X2 marketcap than counterparty.]

it might not be the best example and I can admit that...all the points you stated are true, I know I was there at the very first exodus send with mastercoin....It still doesn't take away from the point that I am trying to make:

One thing Venetian and I have been seriously considering is reducing the house edge for a period of time. Specifically, we'd like to reduce it from 1% to -2% or -1%. This would mean that gambling with CHA would be +EV (positive expectation). This should encourage more gambling and be a way to grab attention in the news. If we set house edge to -2% and people wager 500,000 CHA for an expected house loss of 10,000 CHA, I'd call that a huge win for Chancecoin. The theoretical price should decrease by about 2%, but the price should really skyrocket after that kind of gambling volume.

Another feature we're planning to implement is betting in the Chancecoin casino with BTC. With the recent shutdown of the centralized dice betting behemoth Just-Dice, this is an opportunity for us to step in and take a big piece of the action. We're still working out the exact details, but essentially, it will look like this: when betting, a user will have the choice of betting with BTC or betting with CHA. If the gambler bets with CHA, everything works like it does now. If the gambler bets with BTC, the BTC is converted into CHA, the result is determined, and then the gambler will either keep the CHA or automatically convert the CHA back into BTC. In order for this to work, we have to have a tight decentralized CHA/BTC order book.

We've decided to create a separate "casino liquidity" order book, where all quotes will be two-sided, BTC and CHA will be escrowed in advance, and quotes will have to be less than a certain maximum width. For example, I could quote 1,000 CHA and 1 BTC at a price of 0.001 and a width of 5%, so I'm essentially willing to buy 1 BTC of CHA at 0.000975 or sell 1,000 CHA of BTC at 0.001025. The quote is two-sided, so I'm committed to potentially getting filled on either side. The 1,000 CHA and 1 BTC are held in an escrow address. The "casino liquidity" order book is only there for casino-related transactions. Someone may bet BTC and have it converted into CHA using my quote. If the same gambler wants his CHA automatically converted back into BTC, he may get BTC back from me after his bet is resolved. The quote width essentially becomes a kind of house edge. The escrow addresses where quoted CHA and BTC are stored could be run by multiple trustworthy members of the community, and would be operated by the Chancecoin wallet itself. One question is, would people be willing to provide much liquidity to such a decentralized order book.

Your thoughts are appreciated.

Ever innovating,
Magician

We'll be releasing a new version of Chancecoin tomorrow (Sunday, June 29)!

New features:
 - Single player poker
 - Bets will be resolved with blockhash randomness when max possible win for the block < 20,000 CHA (this will make Chancecoin as fast as Satoshi Dice, and cut down bet resolution times by about 75%)
 - Much faster blockchain download / client startup
 - Chancecoin.com will be live (but read only)
 - BTC send feature
 - Reduced fees

Magician

Great news, congrats on the progress...I am also working on a poker game. do you have plans for multiplayer? how is the game speed?

I step a way for a second and James in his usual machine like manner has addressed most of these issues...

Is this how next spread their adoption? By spamming on other coins thread.

so its ok too have core devs state untrue facts and not have anyone address these things? do you realize that there are a lot of nxters who are also counterparty burners Huh? so technically we support this project

1 - I'm not a dev
2 - I have no idea if what he's saying is true or not, I'm speaking to him as an expert - you'll notice I was suprised to hear him say that, it was new information to me.
3 - I publicize my personal email on literally every episode including that one, and I didn't recieve a single note in complaint about this.  Why complain here, but not to the person who can actually help?
4 - Are you saying he's wrong?  NXT does not use Checkpoints currently or in the past?

I really like NXT but honestly you guys smell conspiracy EVERYWHERE and it gets annoying.  People are just busy, we don't have fact checkers hell I don't have ANY employees so i'm a little curious what you'd have me do.  NXT has an open invitation to do an interview or join us for a host segment on LTB, but you guys don't have many confident speakers I guess as I've had no takers outside of the early and not very compelling interviews with Tai Zen (which ran) and aaron (which didn't).

If you want people to know whats going on with your project, explain it to them in a way they can understand.  Otherwise it's confusing to people on the outside and annoying to people on the inside.

I can admit that I made some assumptions that i will clear up:

1) Maybe I wasn't clear, I wasn't referring to you as a dev, but rather someone who understands the environment enough to be objective in analysis which is important to your audience. you are also seen as an authority in this space, you may not admit it but your thorough journalism gives you the authority, and anything that comes out of the show, especially criticism about certain technologies will be taken as truths...just asked the 10s of parrots I keep having to deal with at these meetups...and one thing is common all roads lead to LTB in their some of their arguments sources

2) I could have sworn you knew at least that nxt is very decentralized...a statement such as "nxt is not a solution to the decentralized consensus system" is very inaccurate, thats like comparing NXT to Paypal...Thats a very powerful thing to say that shapes the mind of the public...do you know how many people repeat that same line confidently to me in person? even when I give them the right information...and their sources is usually from that one podcast...
from your sentiment here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=345619.msg5855525#msg5855525 , you were even considering NXT as an option to counterparty at one point in time, why would you consider issue tokens on a platform that was not decentralized?Huh..My point is, I don't think that statement from peter todd should have been uttered uncontested...it has had damaging and far reaching effects

3) It was not my intent to start anything on this thread...the level of confident ignorance being regurgitated got too much to bear, normally I stay out of these things. I simply came here to check on the progress of counterparty because I am actually invested in it, but instead I find vitriolic attack masked as genuine criticism

4) and like james already retorted Nxt never has or ever will use checkpointing...to compare Nxt algo to peercoin without any actual research and broadcast that on air is unacceptable.

Better yet you state that dev are too busy with their own projects, well thats fine and dandy how about the supposed devs staying out from commenting on unfamiliar technology as opposed to reinforcing untrue notions, or actually asking them if they have looked deeply into Nxt?Huh?? Devs at least take the time time to do some research before even delving into the topic...I say this because you rush to defend these action as inconsequential but you are intelligent enough to understand the effects of the public authority opinions on general masses

Now its no use crying over spilt milk..and we possibly cannot inform every user of the facts everywhere on the misinformation of nxt...but some Nxters can make a difference here especially with counterparty. I know I certainly can, plus others that have contacted me. Nobody wants to see a > 60000 XCP sell wall below price...I care for XCP more than mastercoin as strange as it sounds...and I want it to realize its full potential..for me the more the merrier...but I did not expect that level of irresponsibility from the devs. I thought they were more objective and thorough than that...We just want informed criticisms if there are to be any... the issue of distribution might be one, but we end up with massive inequalities either way on each and every coin...xcp had a way better distribution mechanism, but we still have inequalities that can wreck havoc on the price in the short term, its the same for bitcoin litecoin, darkcoin etc...the list goes on...

Edit: for those who may not have the time to research and need quick truthful information you can listen to this podcast at the 45 min mark: http://letstalkbitcoin.com/blog/post/beyond-bitcoin-5-delegates-and-forgers

I burned about 0.45% of XCP

I have been a quiet supporter but now that the XCP devs are making statements against other coins without actually understanding the details, well I can no longer support XCP.

Things must be getting pretty desperate if core devs have to start trash talking NXT.

WTS 12000+ XCP. I dont have exact count they are still in the original burner accts, 12 full BTC burns toward the end of the burn period.

There is so little liquidity for XCP, I dont want to hurt the price by dumping it on the exchanges. I just do not want to have any more XCP when the core devs are resorting to repeating unsubstantiated FUD without even engaging in a technical discussion. "nothing at stake" rhymes with "proof of stake" so it must be true. Well, that is no way for technical leads of a major project to behave. If that is the depth of their thinking, then I worry about what else they have skimped on.

PM me if you want to buy at least one burner acct.

James

P.S. for those who want to actually analyze some part of NXT http://www.docdroid.net/cckd/forging0-4-3.pdf.html has some math, but it doesnt rhyme.

Same here, I could easily sell more than 4 times that amount on the exchanges if I wanted. Would not confirm how much I have sold thus far but one of your huge supporters can attest to that...

At the 56:50 mark:  http://letstalkbitcoin.com/ltb94-privacy-and-the-arts/ complete FUD and untruths...and thousands of people repeat the same thing confidently like parrots...Nxt is significantly different than peercoin POS, any other proof of stake and the fundamental the code base which is written in java. Nxt is has decentralized as you can get from marketing, development and all other initiatives. Shame on Adam for passive action in letting that smear fly by...You devs have to realize your power and take better responsibility!

Early on I saw the value the developers brought to the table by producing actual working code like bcnext did with NXT in the beginning as opposed to mastercoin's approach... you never know who your audience is, still neither FUD spreaders have done the right thing to do actual research engage in constructive true criticism and stop misleading people...This goes hand in hand with the influence over media to ignore arguably one of the most innovative crypto's in the 2.0 arena....still innovation will win out, it all boils down to one thing Demand which comes from "USE", all of which is fundamentally baked into NXT albeit not released yet. Counterparty on the other hand derives its demand from the use of it complex financial instruments which really is a long term play.

The thing is these devs really see it as a cut throat competition rather than opportunity for working synergies, hence the tactical FUD spreading. But  I rather see counterparty succeed over mastercoin because they have proved more competent and efficient thus far, however just because you have suspicion that your competition has superior technology does not give you the right to spread lies..I feel personally empowered that I could have an effect on short term price if this nonsense continues..in the long term, well you will have Nxt ethereum, bitshares and maybe mastercoin to compete with over the mindshare and top choices ...Nxt is a completely different beast on its own. its real value will be very evident in less than 2-3 months when it actually competes with bitcoin, then you will be forced to review its actual workings....

You do know gocoin is actually integrating nxt,  specific NXT to usd exchange almost due for launch and patrick byrne is actively looking to use the nxt asset exchange right? I don't think they all are naive

For now, we should point out that proof-of-stake mining has inherent problems, which, to my knowledge, neither BCNext nor anyone else in the Nxt community has addressed. In particular, the well-known "nothing at stake" attack, by which miners can mine on multiple blockchains at no cost to themselves; this is in contrast to proof-of-work, where the resources one uses to mine are depleted in the process of mining. "Transparent forging" doesn't solve this problem, and, in any case, transparent forging has not even been implemented yet.

This is what a Nxt dev had to say about the "nothing-at-stake" problem:

Quote
If you have a computer that can forge a very large number of accounts in parallel without using any CPU and can also fund these large number of accounts without costing any NXT, then sure nothing is at stake

In my experience though you need to fund each separate acct with NXT (wait long enough) and then even a small amount of CPU time, multiplied by millions of accounts, well that seems to take some CPU power after all.
So, if you ignore the millions in NXT fees to create the accounts and the CPU power needed to forge on those millions of accounts, then you can try to monkey around with grabbing all the forging fees.

economically it doesnt make sense as there is NXT at stake. I think the premise of "nothing at stake" is that it rhymes with "proof of stake" so it has to make sense. It seems the assumption is that they can buy an arbitrary amount of NXT for free, so maybe much closer to genesis this would have been an issue, but now it is nonsensical.

That has nothing to do with mining on multiple chains at once.

Your last statement show a complete lack of understanding of the NXT forging algorithm and its because of you and the like's of peter todd not taking the time to research before commenting, that people who are not technically adept run regurgitating untrue statements at these meetups...Nxt POS algo is much different than any other POS or even Peercoins algorithm...

I have been following counterparty's development since the first burn and up until now I have admired the efforts of the devs..I have looked into the details of Nxt and counterparty, and I must say that even though they are competing projects, the devs here should take more responsibility when talking about technical details of competing projects...

if you want to make valid criticisms and quit misleading your audience, at least you can start by reviewing some of the discussions by the core developers here: https://nxtforum.org/general/how-does-nxt-fix-the-nothing-at-stake-problem/ your nothing at stake argument is moot, know the facts before your use your authority to mislead others

Edit: and for your info I am a major burner....

At the 56:50 mark:  http://letstalkbitcoin.com/ltb94-privacy-and-the-arts/ complete FUD and untruths...and thousands of people repeat the same thing confidently like parrots...Nxt is significantly different than peercoin POS, any other proof of stake and the fundamental the code base which is written in java. please change NXT official website to nxt.org
nxt.org and nxtcrypto.org are not the same Wink

Please do this immediately. The nxt decentralized asset exchange launches in ~50 mins at block 135,000...also look out for the nxt decentralized goods store and torrent bazaar "freemarket". Other notable mentions: automatic transactions: turing complete-like funtionality and multigateway: frictionless trading of other crypto currency(bitcoin and its clones) and of other asset types.
