it looks like your video card allows to change voltage. I could not change the voltage, but i don't want to change firmware. So I have average 1180 KH/S (could have a bit more, but don't want to push card to higher temperatures).

Re: Cards Overheating. Help me save them?
by

on 17/12/2013, 04:09:04 UTC
2 of my 6870's seem to work ok but when I mine the temp just goes thru the roof. I tested them playing games and they work fine. I know one overheated because the fan died so I put a new fan on. I have no idea why the other one isn't working.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can possibly save them. I put new paste on both. And have tried more fans. It's definitely a problem in the card. I also tried different power supplies and fresh windows installs. They seem to draw too much power or something because one just fried my brand new 550 watt power supply.

I am going to take them apart again and look for something wrong. I didn't see anything before. I am also thinking of trying the oven trick. I bought these cards for bitcoin when it was like 130 so I feel like I have 1000's in them and really want to fix them. They are only like 6 months old but I used bitspend and cant find my receipts for the warranty. Because they seem to work ok under light loads it makes me think they can be saved. Maybe someone knows what part is bad. Any help is really appreciated, thank you.

Is the warranty still valid if you have been "bashing"  the cards doing mining? The  card manufacturers must have seen a big increase in returns since mining started.
I am sure they do.
If you do not overclock your card, changed BIOS, or changed card normal voltage you did not violate anything. I think manufacturer still sure honor the warranty.

How many miners don't overclock their cards?  Wink
Well, until I say so, you can not prove I did overclock the card, right?

Re: CPU mining on BAMT ?

I´m looking for the setup of some rigs.

I was wondering if include CPU mining to complement GPU mining.

I´m considering socket LGA1155, with some micro like i4770k and a Z87 chipset mother.

My doubt is. BAMT is 32 bits, so.. Will I have performance problems trying to CPU mine with BAMT ?
You will pay 10 times more for electricity than you really mine with CPU, it is absolutely not effective. Don't even bother.
And if you mining bitcoins, GPU also not profitable anymore (not even talking about CPU).

Re: different video cards

I am mining for a hobby so please do critique me for mining with a GPU (I know GPU mining is dead but I want to try it anyway), but I have 2 GPU Radeon R9 290 and 2 GPU Radeon R9 290x both made by Gigabyte, Can I put both of these into one mother board and mine or do I have to connect them to two different mother boards because they are different cards? Simply put can a person build a mining rig with two different GPUs?

Also on the motherboard is there any difference in speed between a 3.0 and a 2.0 connection for a pci connection?

Thanks in advance
One advice though: give yourself a favor: switch to mining litecoins instead of bitcoins. You can exchange them later to bitcoins if you wish, but mining litecoins is ~26 times more effective than mining bitcoins. I am sorry that I switched to litecoins late, just wasted a lot of time.
You will need just change a little bit the command line or config file of your miner.

Recent news: Young black kid was walking home, snatched by cops and some guy, which accused that kid of theft. Black kid went to prison at age 16, and was recently released at age 20. No compensation, "you're free to go".

In Russia you'd be at least charged and trialed with some fake evidence. In US judicial system is so awkward, that stuff like this happens all the time. Jailing for facebook comments, some black dude fined for using 'nigger' word, etc.
Yeah, and only in US you can find streets named after black criminals.
Only in US thanks to special programs black guy will be accepted in college easier than white one.
Only in US the black community organizer can become the president just because his black.
Only in US the same community organizer will be reelected when country falling into disaster, and for the same reason.
And do not criticize community organizer, otherwise you will be called racist.
I can continue, but I am not going to follow this post anymore.

Why not to talk about Iran foreign policy or freedom in North Korea?

Aside from being a red herring, no reason.

I live in the Empire. I don't live in Iran or North Korea. But since you brought it up...

Iran, established in it's current borders during the British Mandate, formerly part of the Persian Empire. A State of (if memory serves) 27 million people, has a foreign policy of keeping their head down and flapping their tongues. They have never in their modern history invaded another country, unless you count pushing the Iraqi army back some twenty kilometers across the border in repelling their invasion.

During that same period, how many nations has the USA invaded (fuck the pretext, just the number.)

I don't know. I was born in the latter part of the first half of that history. But off the top of my head I get, in my lifetime or just before it, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Haiti (twice), Grenada, Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia, Ethiopia, Yugoslavia, Panama, Columbia (repeatedly)... And I know this is not a complete list.

During the aforementioned time frame, Iran has pushed for, gotten, and enforced economic sanctions (which only ever strengthen the radicals under them) against, again, no country. The Empire has pushed for, gotten, and enforced so many international sanctions that even THEY lose track.

Your flag waving is annoying, to say the least, but you should REALLY pick better negative examples. Just because the master whose boots you lick so lovingly wants to invade Iran doesn't make them a good negative.

As for the comic opera that is North Korea?

What foreign policy? Glare at US troops across the DMZ?

You're not comparing apples to oranges, you're comparing apples to rocks. They don't even bear the relationship of both being fruits.
i did not read whole your post after you call opponent an

Oh, you forgot somehow participation in World War Two.
Two bad you don't want to live in Iran or North Korea and prefer US. Some dogs bite the feeding hands...
I'm sure your favorite president is Obama. And the most funny thing is you voted for him again.

How badly did you fail your reading comprehension tests in school? Based on this reply, I'd have to posit that it was a train wreck.

I said these examples were IN MY LIFETIME. I was born in 1968. I remember Vietnam, myself. I wasn't very old, but I remember it. Korea was a recent memory for my parents, and WWII was a bit more in the past.

Further, IN THIS THREAD ALONE I have mentioned multiple times that *I* DO NOT VOTE. The system is illegitimate in every sense of the word, even if one were just to buy into the existing constitution. Not one of the wars I mentioned was given legal sanction by the very government that purported to support it, thus exacerbating the problem and allowing them to use truly egregious tactics, such as abandoning their own soldiers among other things. Mai Lai did not happen in a vacuum.

H.L. Menken, who you would hate since thinking was his forte, once said “The notion that a radical is one who hates his country is naïve and usually idiotic. He is, more likely, one who likes his country more than the rest of us, and is thus more disturbed than the rest of us when he sees it debauched. He is not a bad citizen turning to crime; he is a good citizen driven to despair.”

This is me. I was once as bad a flag waving idiot as you. Well, no, not that bad, I actually read and try to understand history, but still, close. I woke up. I didn't hit the snooze button. Try it.

No, I did not vote for Obama. I did not vote for Ron Paul. I did not vote for any of them. I don't vote. If you could demonstrate any substantive difference between the Democrats and the Republicans since 1861, you'll be the first. Given your post history, I doubt you'll get there.

If you DO vote, you cannot bitch, because you have accepted the idiotic notion that the mob makes good decisions, and that they should be binding on everyone regardless of desired outcome. It's hokum, and anyone who gives it more than ten minutes thought knows so.

And one more thing. READ. When you don't, and reply anyway, it makes you look like a perfect idiot. Nobody is perfect, but appearances and all that...

I did not read your post to the end, I stopped after you called the opponent "an idiot". It says enough about you. And yes, I think it is good you did not vote. At least you did some positive things in your life.

Thank you all.
Well, it looks like it falls from ~1200 to around 1000, which is around 20%. I did not tested specifically, but it looks like that. This is not happening when TeamViewer just loaded (it is always loaded), but when I actually use it. It is strange, and probably is just some coincidence.

Does teamviewer affects hashrate?
by

I noticed that whenever I use teamviewer to monitor remotely, the hash rate falls on remote computer. Remote computer has AMD Cempron 145, 7990 card, 4GB RAM. My resolution settings on miner are minimum.
Did anybody noticed hash rate fall with teamviewer?
Whenever I disconnect from remote computer, rate starts raise again.

I am assuming that you are using the MSI Afterburner Beta and you have ticked  the three boxes in the General tab. I didn't so if you did you are a better man than I  Cheesy

What card and BIOS version are you running as some cards BIOS will not change voltage and some say that they have say they have but don't?
Don't want you to feel bad, but yes, I ticked those boxes (but because I read about that in some post before, not because I am smart)

What is do is the following
a) set voltage to 0.9v using cgminer
b) set clock to 700
c) set memory to 1200

works a charm with 7990.

Dude, sorry, I know how to set voltage with cgminer, the thing is that it does not change it, looks like it is locked.

I had a xfx 7990 2 card wide version my problems was keeping it cool. Just keep an eye on your temps because I think I warped mine and I had to RMA it. I was able to undervolt with msi afterburner. Stable I was able to run mine at 1450 mhs @99C. Grin

I don't try to make it most from it, despite it is running in the cooled server room. It runs with average about 1200 KH/S (scrypt) and temperature around 81-83C. I just checked pool and it shows 1594 in the particular moment. I noticed that sometime load of the card changes and card load shows only 90-91%, of course when its happened hashing speed falls pretty much, temperature also falls up to 69C. I had a feel that it is pool problem. It does not looks like throttling, cause temperature is not high. And sometimes speed is really up (just checked again and it shows 1440). Also I noticed that speed falls when I open TeamViewer, but probably it is coincidence. Memory on board is 4GB and I did not noticed any improvement after 2MB.

Well, I tried to change voltage with version 17 beta, but still no luck.
Did not try to change registry yet, did not have a time (before doing so I want to backup drive's image first).

Thank you for you trying to help, but as you can read my post, I know about afterburner. It would not change the voltage of my card unfortunately that easy and some changes should be made in registry. I hope somebody who did changes I am talking about will help.

Is it really worth mining with a graphic card anymore?
you are getting 1,200 Mh/s but you are talking about 550W just for the video card + computer makes ~700w
at $.10 Killowatt hour you are spending $47 a month on electricity.

You would be better off buying Erupters and using a Raspberry pi & a blue/red furry or 4 Erupters.
The Pi cost $45
Erupters (Crazy price now but I got mine for $10-15)

so in 2 month of electricity you could have a pi running 4 Erupters (depending on price) and get the same performance and spend 15w $1.01 a month on electricity.

Gee, I knew somebody would respond like this...
If you read careful, you will see I don't mine bitcoins, so yes, it is profitable. Also, as I said, it is irrelevant to the question I ask.

Undervolting 7990 video card
by
Oldgamer
on 26/11/2013, 16:16:51 UTC
I mining LTC, but posted here because the type of currency irrelevant anyway.
I recently saw somewhere in a forum how to undervolt the 7990, but can not find that post now. I just remember that I have to change some values in registry to zeroes, copy dll to afterburner directory and so on.
I will really appreciate if somebody would give me a link to that post or just let me now what I need to do.

The card I bought makes easily 1200 and more despite I lowered GPU and memory clocks, so I want to undervolt it to keep temperatures in the range I am feel comfortable with.

Thanks in advance.

Do you ever been in China or Russia?
I have lived in Beijing, Shenzhen and Hong Kong. Although HK doesn't count as China.

How about you, Oldgamer? Have you been to China or North Korea? or have only heard of these places on CNN?

I'll guess that he's one of the immigrants who feels that he has to be a hard-core right-winger to prove his allegiance to the U.S.  I think he said he's Russian or something.  Seems like a Fox News sort of guy.

I've not been to Russia, but I have been to China.  I most certainly did NOT feel more free there.  I felt safe enough because there seemed to be pretty a pretty significant understanding that Westerners were to be treated well by the authorities.  My friends did not seem comfortable with the police at all (and they were perfectly normal software engineers and so on.)  I don't think one can put lipstick on the pig and paint China as some bastion of liberty and personal freedom.  My main hope is that we can keep the U.S. from sinking down to that level.  Of course I hope that China continues to improve, but I live in the U.S. and I care a lot more about what happens here.  And of course I care deeply about our deplorable behavior globally.

At first, in US I do not need to prove anything. Second, it is funny how one guy accused me to watch CNN, and another Fox.
And yes, in Russia you better be loyal to authorities. Not like in US.
Third, if I was feeling to prove my allegiance to the US, why I would criticize Obama? I actually can say that he is disaster for US. So, sorry, but accusing me in this does look stupid after all, does it?
