Silk Road website creator gets life term for drug plot

"The accused mastermind behind the Silk Road underground website was sentenced on Friday to life in prison for orchestrating a scheme that enabled more than $200 million of anonymous online drug sales using the digital currency bitcoin.

Ross Ulbricht, 31, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Katherine Forrest in Manhattan after a federal jury in February found him guilty of charges including distributing drugs through the Internet and conspiring to commit computer hacking and money laundering."

The Hong Kong Police have contacted me as they have opened a case against Black Arrow Limited and Hong Kong Shanghai Banking Corporation.

It's been assigned a Police Report Number, an Investigation "Team" and has a lead detective.  It is under active investigation.

Due to the email stating that the information cannot be reproduced as the information may be for my eyes only, I am not going to repost the detective's name, report number, or contact information.  I also don't want Black Arrow to contact the Detective first and supply them false information like their constantly changing "terms of service" that nobody ever agreed to.

Hopefully they do more than the Thames police did.

Hong Kong Police don't fuck around...they will be charge don't worry about that. Where the signatures on these so-called contracts? Nobody signed their shit.

WOOT WOOT, please keep us updated, love anything that happens to bring these guys down.

Absolutely keep us informed please.

Hopefully yet this story might have an ending that isn't simply "scammers disappearing into the night with bitcoins and cash"  Undecided

Re: MtGox Bankruptcy Claim via Kraken - Memories?
by
OleOle
on 27/04/2015, 07:22:24 UTC

There's no doubt that list of people who have been screwed by the bankruptcy of MtGox/dealings of Karpales is long.

Obviously I cannot help you in anyway at all as I'm thousands of miles away and the people you need to speak with to escalate your claim would be Kraken and/or the MtGox trustee. I wasn't asked for any data from my Yubikey, but I did need it to login to my Kraken account as I had enabled it for two-factor. MtGox I recall used their own similar but different Yubikey for their exchange and as my universal Yubikey didn't work I didn't bother setting up any two-factor with MtGox.

Check the link to the Kraken thread here on the forum (listed above), you'll see that a number of people are having difficulty receiving emails from the MtGox trustee and that if you inform Kraken that you have this or other similar issues, they'll add your name to a list to be taken into consideration when the process shakes out. If that's all you do, at least your name is in the hat and it might buy you some time? You won't be the only person with an 'alternative lifestyle' or 'verification issues' but without sounding trite the onus will still be on you to prosecute your claim with them, you know how officialdom works, if you're not active in the process you tend to get crushed by the gears.

In the meantime, you might strike the mother lode out there in Northern California and all this might just fade away...  Wink

Thanks for your reply. By way of clarification I'm in Australia so not subject to any restrictions or difficulties that some people in certain US states might be experiencing.

It was a long while ago when I registered with Kraken but from memory I provided a scanned copy of my passport information page (I recall uploading it through their secure server), my driving licence which has my photo, name and address on it and probably a copy of a recent bank statement (transactions redacted) also confirming my name, address and bank details. I cannot recall whether I had these copies notarised by a Justice of the Peace (I think your equivalent is a Notary Public?) but here it is very easy to get documents notarised free of charge at the local public library.

That was sufficient to verify me to Level 3. Not sure if this information copy/pasted below is visible on the Kraken site if you are not registered with them:

This information is also available from their site:

https://www.kraken.com/u/gox-claim

MtGox Bankruptcy Claims

If you had a balance with MtGox when they went bankrupt, you can file a bankruptcy claim through Kraken. The claim and payout service through Kraken is available in all areas of operation, including all US states.

Creditors claiming funds with Kraken can expect the following benefits:

100,000 KFEE credits redeemable for up to $1 million in free trading volume at the lowest fee tier of 0.1%
Creditor claim and payout support including live chat and email
Option to receive funds in the form of bitcoin
An easier and more convenient process from claim to payout

Please note that if you don’t file through Kraken and instead elect to make your claim through the alternative system provided by the MtGox trustee, we will not be able to assist you with the failures or problems with their system and will not be liable in any way for the failures or problems with their system.
Claim your MtGox account

Click the button below to get started with your claim. You will be briefly directed to the site provided by the MtGox trustee so you can indicate that you will be filing your claim through Kraken. Then you will be directed back to Kraken to complete your claim on our site. Your Kraken account must be verified to Tier 2 or higher to make a claim. For residents of US states who can only pre-verify their accounts at Tier 2 or higher, this is sufficient to use the claim and payout service through Kraken.

You'd also better investigate this quickly if you're hoping to make a claim, I recall seeing that claims need to be lodged maybe by the 29th April (or 29th May?) but I cannot now seem to confirm that date on any correspondence or accounts I can access. I've been contacted via email by the MtGox trustees who are looking after the bankruptcy claims on and off over the last nine months or so, so I am assuming that you've also received emails from them or if not you can still lodge a claim and provide particulars on the Kraken site or on the MtGox site. I chose to register my claim through Kraken as I've had an account with them for a year or so, they've always been very efficient in my opinion and being verified with them, it makes it easier for me to receive any funds that a successful bankruptcy claim may elicit.

It's also worth checking out the Kraken thread on this forum, Dargo and his team are quite quick to respond:

MtGox Bankruptcy Claim via Kraken - Memories?
by
OleOle
on 26/04/2015, 16:32:14 UTC

I just completed the MtGox Bankruptcy Claim via the Kraken website and I'm sure I'm not the only person who has filed a claim over the past week or so.

It was a relatively straightforward process, although I was a bit hazy about which bank account information I supplied to MtGox as part of the verification process, but other than that, it was pretty standard and pleasingly quick.

It took me back to the days when the price was getting hammered, fear was rampant and then the seemingly inevitable failure of Gox occurred. I also remembered a YouTube song from the time, googled it and found it still up but with only 46000 hits:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2ku1A5Ox8U

I'm not saying it is a great musical composition, but I do say that it has stuck in my head as a memory relating to the Gox incident which followed other chaos including Bitfunder going under and TradeFortress collapsing.

Just wondering how many other folks are filing the MtGox claim form and what memories they might recall from those dark days?

Just logged in after a week to find about seven of my posts on the Blackarrow thread deleted [again].

The bulk post deletions of the Blackarrow swindlers are what prompted the forum owner to resurrect all those deleted posts, open this thread and place them here for all to see.

As I said on a now deleted thread earlier, I am really looking forward to seeing criminal prosecutions of those responsible for international fraud and theft of cash and bitcoins by Blackarrow.

On a slightly different note, it is surprising to read that supposed outstanding BA products ordered will be destroyed. This has got to be the most public destruction of doorstops in history!

MasterCard Denies PayCoin Partnership

On February 25th, 2015 Mr. Garza posted on the Hashtalk forums a screenshot of an email that he purports is the start of a partnership with MasterCard.

http://coinfire.io/2015/02/25/mastercard-denies-paycoin-partnership/

Yes, we speculated that it was completely unlikely that Mastercard would have any relationship with small fry when they are payment masters of the universe. If they want something done in that space they'll do it themselves not risk any brand damage or delegate any control to two-bit operators.

any one can tell me that gawminer is trusted or not i want to buy s4 antminer from gawminer...can i buy without any problem..thankyou

It is risky , so if you do decide to purchase one use a credit card and get ready for a chargeback.
Many of the employees have left and you may be screwed just because of incompetence alone without any intention of theft.
Immediately test the s4 as well so you can return it if allowed and research into their return policy because you may get a DOA.

I think what is really being said there is, 'Buy it from anywhere else if you can, otherwise prepare for the worst as there's a very high chance of you being ripped.'

So. You have manufactured all X3s and they're ready to ship?

1) Where the fuck is my miner? I reluctantly confirmed my order with you, you have my money and my address.

2) What about the compensation units you promised? If all orders have been completed then it's time to cough up the goods.

Based on past performance, here are your answers:

1) Fuck you, we have your money

2) Fuck you, we have your money

Unfortunately that's the reality of the situation.

Accused Silk Road operator convicted on U.S. drug charges

"(Reuters) - The suspected mastermind behind the underground website Silk Road was convicted on narcotics and other charges on Wednesday for his role in orchestrating a scheme that enabled around $200 million of anonymous online drug sales using bitcoins.

Ross Ulbricht, 30, was found guilty by a Manhattan federal jury on all seven counts he faced after a closely watched four-week trial spilling out of U.S. investigations of the use of the bitcoin digital currency for drug trafficking and other crimes."

The persistance in following a disastrous line, it will lead DVC to total disaster. What a waste.

Unfortunately it is hard to resist the conclusion that the point of total disaster has already been reached.

It will be interesting to see what happens when one DVC is not even regarded as being worth one satoshi. For my money, we're already there.

Hopefully creative ideas come to the fore and more positive times lie ahead.
