Hey there, I'm thinking of getting a FutureBit Apollo! I have my own BTC node running on repurposed laptop hardware (having a builtin emergency battery is great ), so I would only need the USB Pod Miner and a PSU.
I am wondering though, since I couldn't find product pictures of the standalone USB Pod Miner, if it's also in a nice enclosure with cooling etc. in place just like the full unit or if it's just a PCB hashboard that is more DIY oriented. Also followed the "open source firmware" discussion on the first few pages of this thread and wondering whether it's now all open source or not
Thanks in advance!
From what I've seen, they all look identical on the outside, the only difference you'll notice are the ports on the full node vs. the others, you won't have HDMI, etc. Not sure on the open source firmware, I don't think it's been open sourced yet. If it had been, there'd probably be links on the main futurebit site.

I got my miner yesterday and I've got it setup and working but I have a few questions.
In one of the early posts, it says not to include the "stratum+tcp://" in the miner pool, I included that before I had read not to, my miner is online hashing away, seemingly without any issues. Did that bug get fixed in a subsequent release?
On the dashboard, there are two temps listed, one at the top of the page next to the hash rate, and then another on the hashboard. What's the temp at the top referring to?
Thanks.

Anyone with a recent shipment notification care to share their order number to gauge where we're at? I got to schedule an out of town job, would like to avoid overlapping with shipment if possible.
Mine was 4063 and delivery date was 8/10
I'm 4288 and mine is going to be here tomorrow.

How long does it take for the package to make it to FedEx once I get the shipping notification. I got the shipping notification and tracking number on Tuesday, but looking at the FedEx tracking page, it still says they're waiting for the package.
Tracking numbers are issued when your unit is first built, it can take a bit before it ends up in fedex possession. If you dont see movement this weekend it will definitely be by Monday latest.
Still no movement The package status is still at "Label Created"

Hoping this sub is a good spot for this. This is my initial foray into mining and I just purchased a full node and waiting on shipment. I pre-read the setup and config, have a pool ready to connect. The last piece of puzzle for me to understand is wallet connectivity. As I'm mining into a pool, I'm assuming once I reach a payout percentage, I want to get it into cold storage for safekeeping.
Here is where I get confused: Do I install a wallet onto the controller and have it sent there from the pool? Then, from the wallet onto my cold wallet? Or is there another way? Would appreciate some best practices or guidance.
Many thanks in advance, -c
Your best bet is to get a Ledger Nano or Trezor wallet. It will provide you with a wallet address which you put into your pool account as your payout address. Then any earnings will be sent to your device of choice for storage.
Would you recommend one over the other, or is it six one way, half dozen the other? There seem to be a lot of reviews that the Ledger is crap, the Ledger is AMAZING, Trezor is AMAZING. Hard to sift through it all.
