Here is video with appropriate timeline where Jimmy Song is explaining what op_ctv is. https://youtu.be/i5VNiiCYnIg?t=2173

There is also a wider discussion wrt to support and opposition to this new op_code. Summary is here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5VNiiCYnIg&t=7208s

119 does not inherently do anything you mentioned.

What it does do happens at the level of the Bitcoin tx script, AFAIK (there are descriptions of ideas that work using protocols that use Bitcoin tx script i.e. lightning, but it seems as if the only time CTV is invoked is when the open/close tx's go on-chain)

I don't think there is any _meaningful_ ability to do black/whitelisting, as we have been reliably informed by script gurus that infinite recursion is not possible with CTV. However, better that we verify this for ourselves, Bitcoiners shouldn't want or need gurus IMO

Not inherently but within the script there is that potential?
If CTV is invoked when the tx goes on chain this means miners reinforce this ctv rule and all other layers need to follow.

Does this pose a systemic risk for the Bitcoin system itself as a WHOLE (l1 and cascading to other layers)? Or does it ONLY extend programmability and functionality that can be utilized to extend secondary layer protocols and improve security?

Bip 119 conventant script rules are reinforced on l1 or upper layers?
by

One part I am still confused about is how the new covenant script rules (bip119 op_ctv) get reinforced. Is it the wallet devs that write the rules in their wallet? So user could just use another wallet as my reply above. Or are the rules (whitelisting/blacklisting for example)  reinforced by miners on chain & they simply reject all /whitelisted/blacklisted accounts from the block.

Upper layers are permissionless so additional requirements can be added. Wallets & exchanges can be considered l2. So if wallet providers decide to blacklist, KYC, comply with regulators and so on its their right. Users rights is to chose which wallet to use according to their need & principles.

Onchain l1 that's where I am extremely worried. If miners get to reinforce on l1 that means all wallets & everything built on top of l1 such as l2, l3 etc need to follow the same rules then that's literally hell for onchain neutrality and fungibility.

Onchain l1 needs to stay censorship resistant and neutral.

Can any one clarify this?

I believe the OP underestimates the "other thing" that actually holds everything in the Bitcoin Network together. The Game Theory.

Why would an entity act badly on the network if it can cooperate, and earn more by being honest?

Bitcoin is the dominant hash power chain using sha256 so it wont have this issue. Its more aimed at minority PoW chains. For example, minority hash power chains using the same algo can be attacked by non-honest miners trying to reorg the blocks (51% attack) and double spends on exchanges.

All decentralised PoW are theoretically at risk of these types of attacks.

It's hard to trust the Ethereum platform after having bailed-out TheDao contract. A precedent has been set but great tragedies give birth to great things. Ethereum Classic has kept it's ledger and core principles intact as the original chain. It is diverging by staying POW or POW/POS hybrid (Twinchains) + a new monetary policy but principles of decentralisation including governance, immutable ledger and unstoppable contracts are at it's core. Competition is good and different flavours will only improve the whole ecosystem but ETC should not be ignored and underestimated.

Guy must feel terrible at the moment! He is finally confronted with reality and that will change him forever. Hopefully, he will gain all the learning lessons that can be taken from this. He got what he deserved and kudos to him.

0.01 BTC says the kid does no time for this, but does time for something else down the road.

I agree, A very probable sequence of events. Just saying, we were all young and have done some stupid things. Instead, care to make that 0.01 BTC with Rock-paper-scissors on counterparty? Never enjoyed betting on lives :-)

Inside your counterwallet on the left side, click on the exchange link  Shocked  On that page you can make buy and sell orders. The more people do that the more exchange options will be available on counterparty decentralised exchange platform that is using Bitcoin's blockchain security.

To be honest, using counterparty to issue the FLDC asset is pretty awesome!

Received mine and I support this initiative!

Side note: Can someone give us an idea of why FLDC will be traded in the future? I am thinking in line of carbon offset programs or should we see FLDC tokens only as help contributing to humanity and karma?

I believe swarmpath will put together a writeup as to why he thought it was better not to issue the dividend as originally planned.

Looking forward to a professional, clear and transparent write up and next steps.

Well designed website, though I still don't understand how it works, how would 'Decentralized Cloud Storage' be possible? I don't think you can use blockchain to transfer files or the size is gonna be huuuuuge... Explanation would be good Smiley
This is correct, you would quickly run into something called blockchain bloat, and well as some terrible legal implication. Instead we can use the blockchain to "point" to a file on the network. This also allows us to support multiple decentralized data networks.

Not sure if this has already been answered, but which blockchain are you planning to use to store your file pointers? Its not the bitcoin blockchain, is it ??
No, in the Storjcoin X blockchain. We may integrate it later on into the Bitcoin blockchain if treechains or sidechains ever become a thing.

The Bitcoin blockchain is quite secure with so much computational mining behind it. How does the security of storj blockchain work? 51% attack?

  • Counterparty is the 'database' offering timestamping & proof of publication => issuance of assets/tokens.
  • Swarmcorp works on a nice UX layer on top of counterparty offering cryptoequity, project screening and swarmcoin. Not exactly but conceptually similar to Red Hat distro in Linux without the coins.
  • Storj.io offer a decentralised cloud storage "dropbox" product using bitcoin blockchain technology and crowdfunding it with counterparty.

I think that packaging all these different types of exciting developments could help all stakeholders. Any plans to join forces with storj.io & counterparty, share overhead costs and also promote them as a new incubator platform?  Coordinating between these different project with a common objective could look like the concept of “holons” – meaning something that is simultaneously a whole and a part.

Storj crowdsale on Counterparty is official

http://storj.io/crowdsale.html

Big evaluate, but if you look at Dropbox, this is nothing.

The site, verbiage, and fundraising concept looks very familiar  Tongue

Counterparty is seriously facilitating and environment where start-ups can incubate and offer financial participation. I am certain that both swarmcorp and storj can join forces and actually counterparty will also ride that momentum. The synergy between this trio is exciting and currently just the top of the iceberg.

Exciting stuff!

When the JOBS act goes into effect in Q4 and includes to many stipulations or in event of unfavorable future regulation, a jurisdictional play can always be made which restricts offerings to U.S. residents. Is SEC omnipresent in the world or can other nations then adopt these types of business? Is this also one of the reasons why Swarmcorp has not been incorporated which gives you room to manoeuvre (DAC style) to other friendlier jurisdictions?
