Re: Mobile wallet + debit card = Cryptosigma
by

on 09/02/2015, 12:31:22 UTC
They say "CryptoSigma is the first Platform to offer a Bitcoin wallet that gives you the choice to Auto Exchange any received bitcoin into the currency of your choice."

But there's quite a lot companies offering similar services around, right?

What makes them special then?

Isn't it because they offer free $10
Or they claim they are best services ?

The time will show how good their services are.

This is really cool. Not really a bitcoin thing, but I'm sure most of us are probably interested in the disruptive potential of such mesh networks like Firechat

Re: Australian coinjar.com to charge 10% GST on all AUD->Bitcoin sales
by
Ondago
on 01/10/2014, 08:45:12 UTC
This is some bullshit. In a sane world, GST would only be applied to the fees that Coinjar charges, not the entire amount. They're treating it as an everyday good and not a currency or even a commodity, and trying to shoehorn it into their existing rules on bartering which makes zero sense. This is going to kill (legitimate) Bitcoin adoption in Australia.

Can't agree more, I'm flabbergasted by how small-minded the ATO's guidence is. Cutting off one's nose to spite their face describes it pretty well though. And most importantly, this punishes legitimate outfits like Coinjar and actually incentivises under the counter sales, so this will actually encourage tax evasion ffs! All they've tried to do is hammer a square peg into a round hole, regardless of how much it will hurt not just Bitcoin, but themselves in the process.

Bitcoin won't get hurt though, blocks will continue to get mined and the blockchain will grow. It doesn't care.
If you mean in terms of value, the price will just skyrocket in Australia. Prohibition of any kind will just make it more valuable.

There's a reason why PokerStars HQ is in Isle of Man and it ain't for the weather.  Wink

And there's a reason why Pokerstars currently doesn't accept users from the USA. Exchanges open to Americans will have to comply with American rules, that's for sure.

How the hell do you define "early adoption" if not the past 4 years?

I think in terms of creating a global currency from the ground up, this is still VERY early adoption. Still plenty of work that needs to be done.

blockpay.net has some spelling errors. surprises me these apparently big and rich Chinese players are too stingy to even hire a real English speaker to proof read.

How do you think they got rich ?

DPoS suffers from a crucial problem which invalidates the whole system. There is no proof of stake, therefore there is no way to conclusively ascertain which chain is the longest and thus which spending is not a double spend. Meaning that DPoS does not prevent double spending.

I don't follow this reasoning at all. The shareholders are voting on the current transaction ledger. You can only change this by controlling how the majority of shareholders vote. You also have to manipulate the vast majority of delegates into participating.

Re: How would you store >100 Bitcoins?
by
Ondago
on 31/08/2014, 20:34:46 UTC
In the case of 100+ BTC. I's very simple. 2 things. One, you want to keep an eye on that, so as they don't just disappear over night. Two you want that off-line, far from the prying hand of hackers!

My suggestion, is break it down into 4 paper wallets, generated off-line, 25+ each. Each using a unique pass-phrase or password. Paper wallets are stored in a plastic zip-lock bag for moisture protection. The private keys associated with their corresponding public key should be copied to a SD, USB, or a removable media device by an off-line computer, and that to should be zip for moisture!

Paper wallets can be stored in a safety deposit box, along with the SD/USB device at a local bank. No sense in banking crypto if your gonna have a version hanging around the house.

The four keys should be installed in view mode only on an Application such as Mycelium, or links to the blockchain should be created in your browser, as to keep an eye on them as you move from day to day!

If long term banking is required, then only passwords can be kept around the house, say in a cookie jar, picture frame, etc.
Enjoy crypto man it's alot of fun!

Forbes contributors aren't some unified body. They freelance contribute. I've read many good articles by contributors and many really terrible (and grammatically error-ridden) ones like this.

Just look at Kashmir Hil https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gSfFdMeORO0l, a real live reporter for Forbes (as in, not a contributor) who was one of MSMs earliest bitcoin proponents. And the first reporter to live on only what she could buy with bitcoin for a week.
Forbes actually has a very good track record in terms of positive bitcoin articles.

Re: I just had a great idea - print bitcoin denominations
by
Ondago
on 31/08/2014, 20:21:20 UTC
Bitcoin requires much less trust in third parties.

However, one might imagine that a highly trusted Bitcoin org (looking at you Bitpay) could print paper denominations that circulate that are certificates of claim NOT paper wallets (perhaps even fractionally reserved) These bills could be redeemed by the holder for actual btc, making the bill then void of further claim.
I am not sure how this would be accomplished. I do think it would be extremely valuable.

No!
Bitpay is a scumbag company. Im sure they got ties ro the government because of their size.
Whaf the hell is the point of bitcoin if u create just a another bank

Are you paying those costs, or are they?

Businesses pass their costs off to consumers, that's kind of how they fundamentally operate.

It doesn't matter who created Bitcoin. The source code is public. Read the source code and anyone can see everything it does, and everything it does not do.

Have you read (and understood) the source code?
I haven't/can't. I don't know anyone I trust who can/has, either.
Now, don't get me wrong, I still believe in bitcoin. But like I said, I can't use that reassurance if I'm being honest with myself.
