Hi Guys,

I'm running 3x gigabyte AORUS GeForce GTX 1080 Ti. Stock on SMOS IOS.

Seems like my pull from the wall is a bit high compared to other stats i'm seeing at : 670 W

My temps are around 64° and i'm pulling about 2094.1 Sol/W

Any tips would be great. I'm new to all this stuff.

Thanks,
Oonej

that sounds about right. reduce draw to 190-200w. set your oc to +150, +500. youll see 2100-2200 sols easy with min 3.6 sol/watt

Thanks ! Doing this reduced it by 30-40 w.

Still not the 570 i'm seeing reports on from other sites with this setup. But saving is saving Cheesy

Vega 56 it's a good price/hashrate power and you can find bios mod

Which is why they're sold out everywheeeeere. If you find any, buy them.

Lol, thats my problem with all the video cards.

580s 1 per customer or sold out or overpriced by hundreds of dollars.
1080s I can buy, which is why i brought the question up. If its available, it means its not in demand, meaning its not as good.
1080TIs, I can buy 3, but not sure if its worth it.

Haven't even began to look at the Vega 56.

1070ti might work?

Suggestions on where to buy / avoid the limit per customer nonsense lol

Thanks for the reply.

You cant flash nvidia cards, they are locked. You can flash only AMD cards.
RX 580 8GB is best choice for you at this moment - until ethereum mining ended.

What would be the best 1080/1080ti since it can't be flashed? Just curious. Weighing the pros and cons.

Clarification On GPUs
by
Oonej
on 21/12/2017, 14:25:40 UTC
Hi Guys,

Bought my hardware (except GPUs) which i understand is the main part.. Grin but I've been up in the air on what to get...  Huh
With a budget of around 2400:
3 x 1080Ti
4 x 1080
8 x 580

Its obviously going to be a little harder to get the 580s, but looking at numbers, those still appear the most profitable? Am I missing something?
Maybe the 580s aren't as efficient , but they are more coin diverse...

Also, if the 1080(ti) , is it necessary to flash those similarly to the 580s? I haven't seen much documentation on those. What brands work best (I'm certain this was asked a million times but i can't read a 200 page thread)

What would you chose?

Thanks for your opinions. Want to build this over my Christmas holiday break Cheesy

Thanks!

It shows ROI time table. with an increasing difficulty.

I didn't want to list all the data as it was a lot of data... but here you go:

The numbers on a calculator are so far off you may as well scribble numbers on a wall and throw darts at it. There is no way to estimate difficulty or LTC price that far out so all those numbers are trash.

The reality is, an ASIC miner in this space as a 3 month ROI, a GPU rig will cost twice as much and have more like an 8 month ROI

I agree it is too far out to tell, which is why i'm hesitant to buy an ASIC. Who knows that the market would bring in that time frame. So you would say ASIC over a GPU rig? Even if the ASIC is a 4 month wait?

I personally wouldnt buy L3+'s anymore. There is going to be some new thing that will come out and the l3's will be useless. Save your money and wait. Patience is the key!

Thanks for your input.

I might go towards a GPU mining rig again...

Any tips on shopping locations? Anything that caters towards miners?

What would you recommend for a good / short term ROI rig ?

I might consider this instead.

Antminer L3+ viable?
by
Oonej
on 05/12/2017, 02:20:32 UTC
Hey guys,

I'm new to the mining scene. I was planning a gpu build but now I'm leaning towards a antminer L3+. I know the scene isn't 100% when it comes to predictability, but curious how much risk I'll be jumping into. I'd like to buy 4.

With some of the calculators, I'm seeing from ltcwisdom.org I see that by March time frame I'll have a return of 350-400/mo based on my current kwh cost and pool fees etc. I could also do nicehash for a little more.

What are your thoughts on the ASICs? Would really appreciate some in my same boat or has been in my boat. The big deal for me is the 4 month wait...

Thanks guys!

Well, You are right, "cheap" is very relative  Smiley
Let's just say that the investment made on the miner shouldn't affect Your everyday financial situation. You should still be able to eat and sleep somewhere after building a rig Grin

You can see a lot of people in the forum wanting to invest anywhere from 1700usd to really fucking much on ETH mining.

Whats cheap for one can be pricey for the other!

LOL Yes. I'm only considering investing the money because I have it to spare.

Hello OP, i have alot of AMD cards im letting go of.
Assorted brands and models of rx570 4gb and rx580 8gb.
If your interested, can send me a pm and we can work something out.
But note these are used cards for 4-5 months now.
But PM me if your interested.

Msg sent. I'm not familiar with used equipment. Kind of worries me to be honest. No warranties Sad

or you could just invest that money in some alt coins and hope for a rise in the market???

Thats what I said in my first msg. That has a bit more risk no?

Thanks smoolae,

Power is just around $0.1015 / kwh.

What would you justify as 'cheap'?

Well, in Estonia the kW/h costs around 0.03-0.05eur, Your price isn't the cheapest but I think it also isn't too bad (I don't know the medium price you pay for electricity in your country).
https://imgur.com/a/HgzUh

For profit calculator (there are more, just my favorites Smiley):
https://www.cryptocompare.com/mining/calculator/eth?HashingPower=1050&HashingUnit=MH%2Fs&PowerConsumption=4500&CostPerkWh=0.04
https://whattomine.com/coins/151-eth-ethash

You can get "a result" from those calculators but don't hope for a long time accurate numbers from them. Grin

I saw the prices from those and I see I can still turn a profit from my current power consumption.

I was more concerned with what you meant by 'cheap' in regards to your comment:
Quote
I think that if You can get in cheap it's worth it, if not, then don't bother and buy/trade crypto for profits! Smiley

What is a good value to 'get in cheap' thats 'worth it' Smiley

Thanks!

New Miner Seeking Advice
by
Oonej
on 23/10/2017, 19:41:58 UTC
Hey Guys,

I've been doing a bit of research in the realm of mining. I've seen a few builds. Looked up a few Alt Currencies etc.
I keep hearing people saying not to invest into a rig due to POS for ETH.

Am I wasting my time doing research on this and planning to invest into a rig?

Is moving forward is a viable option [in your opinion] ?

If so I was thinking of doing a RX 570 rig, but getting mixed reviews on the 1060/1070 cards. From crunching numbers, it looks like the difference in ROI between the two setups is only a few dollars per day. But the difference in cost supersedes the ROI value.

For instance:
RX 570 setup would cost 1600 (just video cards) and generate 6.2 / day (based on whattomine). Thus giving us an 100% ROI in ~8 months. Assuming difficulties stay the same.
GTX 1070 setup costs 2800 and generates 7.65 / day. Giving an ROI in ~12 months. Assuming difficulties stay the same.
For these, i would need to run the GTX build almost 3 years to catch up on profits.

I know you can dual mine, but only looks like ETH/ETC+ something else? Is this what I should also consider? Is this worth it?

I'm tech savvy in terms of computers as I am a computer science graduate.

Where do you suggest buying the cheapest hardware for building a rig? the smaller the entry point the quicker the ROI! Cheesy

Thanks for any tips, pointers, or suggestions given!

O
