Re: Bitcoin annonced as illegal in india

As I said earlier It is very unlikely that they would ban Cryptos in India rather they are looking forward to use 'smart contracts' like Estonia and Dubai which are based on blockchain technologies for keeping land records, etc.; land records has been an intractable problem for a large country like India and declaration of pilot around using ‘smart contracts’ can help start more innovations around blockchain technology and also may also reduce corruption. Next time Listen to FMs speech instead of believing in news.

Re: Merit & new rank requirements
by

This thread should be stickied imo.
A lot of people will ask what's merit or  how to get merits point.

1 question to theymos, how if someone/people buying/selling merit points to ranked up faster?
I hope a permaban for that person/people.
No one would be foolish enough to post about it openly so that they get banned.

Re: Is it still worth mining bitcoin in 2018 ?
by

Imo it isn't worth it to mine bitcoins in 2018 as the current electricity rates are very high (especially in India) and even Nvidia declared that they don't want to sell GPUs to miners but they want to sell them to gamers as they get feedback from them.

Keeping the hardware and electricity issues aside, the difficulty while mining has increased as well and this is becoming a lot more competitive than expected.

Therefore, I don't think that investing in a mining rig would be profitable in the current scenario.
Mining using ASIC is still profitable even more when you have free electricity Smiley Smiley Smiley

Re: MERIT
by

Merit sucks. I've been studying threads and posts and now at this point it's obvious that people don't award merit to others for good posts, they reward it because they know each other on here. Very sad system. It needs to be trashed or redone.

I'm not sure I would go as far as that, but there are certainly some distortions in the awarding of merit points. Whilst I was posting about the merit system, I picked up 38 points fairly quickly. As soon as I stopped, and began starting threads about the Bitcoin system, and posting in such threads, I haven't received one merit point. This may be that my posts are rubbish, or it may be that the forum priorities are now involved with crypto bounties, and the increasing of the size of sig spammers advertising potential.
Exactly forum priorities are now involved with crypto bounties and very few people care giving merit on regular threads in bitcoin system or discussion.

That can happen but still, this might be a good idea because there's currently little incentive for the older members to help out newbies knowing that they likely won't have any sMerits to give out (unless other older members see the random act of kindness I guess). The problem would lie in making sure the system doesn't encourage any more account farming, which is exactly what the Merit system hoped to combat, while making sure it gives enough incentives for older members to actually bother.

Well the RBI has kind of separate version of it but it doesn't seem that there would be a absolute Ban.

Bitcoin being so highly volatile I wouldn't suggest investing In Bitcoin as Every small action at International level a reflection it its value I know this is both bad and good but looking at the heated up situation in South China Sea and the Koreans investing huge amounts in Bitcoins can prove FATAL.

Re: Will Bitcoin Die Because of China?
by

on 20/09/2017, 14:33:33 UTC
NO! there might be a small dip in the valve but it wont die. After the dip there will be huge boom in its value. Ban by China will affect. Expect BTC to be around 4500$ by the end of 2017. 5.2k$ should be expected as a closing by the end of Jan 2018. 10k ? by the end of Jan 2019.

Re: Who can destroy Bitcoin ?
by
OzyMeister
on 20/09/2017, 11:17:12 UTC
Looks like no-one is understanding your question.

The direct answer to your question, is yes, you can “destroy” bitcoin but not in the traditional sense.

The blockchain holds a record of the coins that get sent in and out of an address. The only way to send coins out of an address is to use the private key that created that address. No private key, no ability to send or verify those coins.

One could potentially “destroy” coins by sending them to an address that has no private key, or to simply send it to yourself and erase all copies of your own private key. This will result in those coins being lost in that address forever effectively destroying them.

Though technically speaking, there’s no real way to confirm that you’ve deleted all copies of a private key.
