Should some Bitcointalk's rules change now?
by
PEANUTUT
on 09/06/2021, 02:30:30 UTC
Donator:   Manually applied by administration after 10 BTC donation, and gets 5 gold coins under his name
of which the last is half green. 5 coins are shown regardless of post count when user is a Donator.
VIP:   Manually applied by administration after 50 BTC donation, and gets 5 gold coins under his name
of which the last is half purple. 5 coins are shown regardless of post count when user is a VIP.

Now let’s see if this rule is too harsh. As the price of Bitcoin gets higher and higher, it is getting harder and harder to reach this level.
I think the price should be lowered to increase the sense of participation of newcomers
The price should be equal to the price of 50 bitcoins in 2013.

I'm really not seeing the case for bitcoin being the crypto and all other alts are shitcoins here. Bitcoin is a great store of value, but will never be 'A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System', not with network fees and block times anyway.
All the boomer electronic cash coins do that better, like litecoin or bch even if the latter is centralized and has fundamental security issues. Even if bitcoin has the edge with decentralization, how will bitcoin scale to match speed and fees without using something centralized like the lightning network and becoming a bank pawn like cripple schizo?
Then there's usecase, you can't really passively earn bitcoin unless you buy some ewaste asics, lend it on a centralized platform, or wrap it and utilize it on DeFi platforms. You kinda just buy it, send it to your wallet, and it sits there like a hunk of metal. Wanna buy an ice cream? Whoops, it already melted by the time the transaction is done. Wanna pay your employees? Oh damn, the transactions canceled because I sent too many. Case in point, bitcoin doesn't have smart contracts either, unless you consider bitcoin schizo version the bitcoin.
So bitcoin doesn't have unique usecases like other alts, ETH for usable platform for smart contracts, all the storage coins equivalent to dropbox, onedrive etc, blockchains governments and corporations run on like fantom, oracles linking the blockchain to governments and the world, the list goes on.
How will it compete with CBDCs when they are so much more private and easy to use, POS cash coins when they have no environmental impact, even monero when it offers true privacy with everything else good about bitcoin?
Personally, I see bitcoin already something like digital gold, with other digital cash coins as currencies, and with everything else that isn't centralized shit or vaporwave the new products and massive of blockchain. So bitcoin maxis, how does bitcoin fix all this when it's simply a medium of investment?

Re: Is it normal to not want to work at all?

I feel like this ever since I finally got into the role I spent four years working towards. I just want to stay home and be left alone. Every day I push myself to go do my job and it’s demands. I often find myself daydreaming about not having to work or worry about making money. To just be able to not work would be amazing. I think I’m mostly just really worn out from four intense years of study and work and now my mind and body want a rest. I’m really looking forward to a two week staycation over Christmas. Hopefully that eases my constant day dreaming about not working.

Yes. I consider it a skill. If you keep evaluating what you need vs what you don’t, you can save that money for the important things.

Re: Why am I so handsome in the mirror but so ugly in a photo?
by

I once read that if a exact doppelganger of your self walked by you in public, you wouldn't notice. Because in our minds we look totally different than what we actually look like ....but in a good way. I guess we are all slightly more attractive than we actually believe we are to other people, because we as individuals look at our selves a lot in mirrors. And we focus a lot on our "imperfections" things we or you are self conscious about, but other people dont notice said imperfections as much as we do.

So yeah, you might be ugly asf like ya boy here, but you ain't as ugly as you think, bitches.

I wouldn't say there is anything wrong with it at all. Everyone needs time to themselves, just because you have a family doesn't change that. I finish work around midnight and I enjoy being able to come home and do my own thing for a couple of hours before going to sleep.
It's essential to have 'me time' in a relationship, not having so risks co-dependency (or symptoms thereof). What OP is describing seems very healthy to me, as does your comment (:

Was interviewed by a Senior programmer and the department head. The department head was continuously making condescending remarks towards the other interviewer. Poor guy just sounded broken. Hope he's somewhere else now.
On a second interview the general manager brought me into the conference room with his 8 managers present. At first I thought it was a meet and greet but no, they grilled me for an hour and a half. Didn’t appreciate that along with a couple other things and politely withdrew from being considered.

Couple months later I’m playing in a ball tournament and come across one of the managers. I mentioned how weird that interview was. He says ‘Weird for you? Ha! I found out then and there you were being interviewed for my job!’.

Yep, dodged a bullet there.

I work in a central kitchen for Meals on Wheels and we provide anywhere from 400 to 600 meals a day for our county. There are only 4 of us that make the food and one person is in charge of dessert and only works 16 hours a week.

We start our day at 4:30 and the meals go out at 10. We rely on volunteers for help serving and delivery. I think our volunteer count was around 200 last I heard. Most of them are retired or people taking time during their lunch break to deliver 10 to 12 meals for their route. All the food is made from scratch and we run our operation our of an old nursing home kitchen. Our equipment is old and a little run down but we make it work.
I drove a route once every month for 5 yrs. It’s amazing how attached you get to your people. I had to stop when I made a job change but still think of those lovely ppl often, and truly admire what YOU are doing to make sure ppl who need it get food.

Re: I feel myself getting dumber each day in quarantine.

I'm not in quarantine, but I broke my foot so I'll call it the same thing since I'm stuck at home for 4 months (only 2 more months to go!)

I decided to use this as an opportunity to learn and grow, just like you

-Read 20 books (16 since the start of January - including taking notes) on a variety of topics - finance, investing, self-help, career development, science, philosophy etc, as well listened to many podcasts and productive YouTube videos

-Studied toward a new certification for my line of work (and set to receive a pay bump by the time I return)

-Created a budget using YNAB (You Need A Budget) and organised my finances. I now have a financial plan and looked into retirement planning as well.

-Made my initial move into investing in ETFs, and am doing some paper trading now on a few stocks I have my eye on

-Read and understood all I need to know about my various insurance policies, super, medicare and other important things I just had a vague idea about previously

-De-cluttered my phone, laptop, home office and home

-Begun learning Spanish and Russian on the DuoLingo app

-Bought a guitar and began learning how to play it from JustinGuitar

-Set up home automation - sensors, cameras, garage, wall plugs etc (so convenient not having to get up with a broken foot!)

-Begun tracking my mood and habits in the Mood Tracker app

Switched from doing Tactical Barbell in my training to doing a new bro-split bodybuilding protocol just for fun
-
-I've also bought a lockpicking set and am waiting for that to arrive so I can learn how to pick locks

And then I've continued my previous practices:

-Cold showers

-Meditation

-Practicing Mindfulness and Gratitude

-Journalling

-Study and implement Stoicism and Buddhist practices into my everyday life

Then on top of all this I still fucked around and did some lazy shit like

-Video games

-Binge watched Attack on Titan, the whole MCU line-up, Friends, Brooklyn 99 and other content from AnimeLab, Netflix, Disney Plus etc

-Reddit

-And other mindless stuff because I think it's important to have that too (in moderation)

Re: What is cheaply made but sold at a ridiculous price?
by

I was a certified optician and ran a lens lab for Pearle Vision in the early 2000's.

Our most expensive frames, excluding the weird Armani shit we carried, cost us $20-$30 per frame. They sold for $200-$400 depending. Our cheapest frames cost us $2-3 each, and none sold for less $50.

The lenses, that's a lot of markup. I started in a brand new store, and we had a brand new lab full of Essilor hardware. Latest and greatest at the time. Standard lenses, nothing special just the standard CR32 plastic in a typical prescription? They cost $2 or so and we charged $40 each. So a "basic" pair of glasses cost us $8 in materials and was sold for $130.

The worst markup was on the high end lenses. At Pearle (at that time) the top end were the MTPROA lenses. Micro-thin polycarbonate aspheric lenses with anti-scratch and anti-reflective coating.

Basically, if you have a strong prescription (+- ~3 or so) aspheric can make a much thinner and lighter lens that can give you the same vision a thicker traditional lens does. Add in anti-scratch ($) anti-reflective ($) and the cost of the lenses alone were around $400 for the customer. Pearle Vision's cost for the lense blanks? $23.

The entire cost of the Essilor equipment in the lens lab at my location was only ~$250000, and we regularly sold $800+ glasses.

And, the part that I really hate, Mainecare (Maine medicare) at the time wouldn't provide coverage for anti-scratch coating (it was technically an "upgrade"). We couldn't buy lense blanks that didn't have it. My instructions were to strip the anti-scratch coating when making lenses for Mainecare clients. I ran the lab. Guess what I never did.
I'm a -8.25 and at almost 40 years old, I've only now hit the place where I can pay for my glasses in one payment. I'm even more grateful that my parents could afford to pay for my glasses as a kid. I don't think I got plastic lenses until I was in high school. Glass all the way.

A lot flipped houses. Be careful when looking at recently remodeled houses. Most of these are cheap flips with nothing more than some new paint, flooring and appliances. It becomes very apparent when you actually view the house in person and the doors don’t close right, the windows are old, and everything just feels cheap

Re: What's the stupidest excuse you heard that turned out to be true?
by

I used to work for a huge technology and engineering firm that was installing security systems for a new stadium. The deadlines for everything were written into the contract such that there were considerable penalties for not delivering portions of the scope on time. We were notified that we were in default of the contract for not installing the parapet cameras on the high perimeter of the stadium.

Our excuse was pretty solid: They had not finished building the stadium. There was no "top" of the stadium yet to mount anything on. It was fucking air.

We had to defend that for a few weeks before they backed off.
I am picturing your cameras on top of a long, thin electrical conduit, and everybody else must gingerly build the rest of stadium around it so as not to disrupt your contract.

Re: How to lose weight?
by

on 30/01/2021, 03:27:50 UTC
The only reliable solution is dieting. But what sort of diet? There are the extremists who believe in a dramatic, thorough-going attack on their waistline by eating nothing. There is another theory that if you eat things like hard boiled eggs, apples with their skins on, and lean meat which are hard to digest, that the more you eat, the thinner you get. This is because you use up the fat in your body to get the energy to digest the food. For most of us these methods are too extreme or too eccentric. The simplest system is just to cut down on the carbohydrates or, if possible, to cut them right out.

Re: How do you make friends when you're 30+?
by

A good question. Being 30+ , I do find it more difficult to make friends these days. Covid doesn't help the situation.

But it comes down to finding people with similar interests or a shared activity. And just putting yourself out there a bit. Some times you might fall flat on your face. But most of the time you start a conversation with someone and go from there.

now my life goal is just so that my children can be happy and go to the best schools. in my city, the best school requires a large fee so I have to be more active in getting side money like this from Bitcoin.

Re: Why privacy matters
by

Privacy is a kind of personal information that has nothing to do with public interest and group interest, and the party does not want others to know or it is inconvenient for others to know.
