Re: Antminer A3 Electricity Setup Help?

Thanks for the reply, you're probably right just need to find someone i can trust to give suitable advice and not try and upsell me on something that i wont need, i mean my house has 240v anyway so they can suggest that to me but anything else they say i might need i wouldn't know if they are genuinely offering it as something i need or just an extra way to get more money from me.

Actually now you mention it the washing machine will be in the same room as the miner, so obviously they'll be on the same circuit i guess, the washer wont be on 24/7 of course but when we have it running would that be a problem you think? Its the coolest room in the house and the best place to avoid the noise etc thats why it will be in there.

Do you have any reccommendations for places to host my miner if i decide to do that? How does it work, surely they take quite a hefty fee from you?

Antminer A3 Electricity Setup Help?
by

Hey guys,

I am a complete noob when it comes to this and what gear i should have for my electricity setup. I have an A3 on the way and will be my first time mining so just need some advice on the electricity setup etc. I am living in the EU and my house has 250v setup i think, i will post pictures of the breaker and electricity box for reference. I am just wondering firstly what PSU should i purchase? I think the APW3++ should be ok from what research i have done but maybe there are cheaper/ better options i don't know. I am also looking at getting a PDU and wondering what specifications i should be looking for with that, i am on a budget so the cheaper the better of course but ultimately i want to make sure that when i am mining it is safe i.e i don't overload the circuit and have an extra fire risk.

The specs of the miner are like this...
– DC voltage input: 11.60~13.00 V
– DC current input @12V DC: 98.8 A +7%
– DC Power @12V DC input: 1186 W +7%
– 220VAC Power @25℃, 93% conversion efficiency of APW3: 1275 W + 7%
– 220VAC Power efficiency @25℃,93% conversion efficiency of APW3: 1.56 mJ/MH + 7%

Am i right in thinking that the way to calculate amperage is by dividing the miner wattage around 1300w by the circuit volatge 250v so around 5.9amps for the miner? Also i think that in my house all the sockets in the downstairs part of the house are on the same circuit so thats quite a few devices etc, how do you know how much each circuit can handle?

As i said i will attach pictures to help anyone that understands electrics see how my setup is, all in all i am just a little confused with amps and how much a circuit particular circuit can handle. Any advice on how to understand and what psu/ pdu would be suitable for me would be greatly appreciated cheers guys!

P.S on a side note i live in a very hot country in the main part of summer July/Aug the temps regularly exceed 40+ celsius whats the best way to keep the miner cool? Or is it almost impossible at those temps?

Re: Will it make sense if someone turned bitcoin into paper money?

Like somebody else said we buy bitcoin with our paper money and then sell it back to get more paper money, so no this wouldn't make sense, also then the controls and authenticity of it would be much harder to follow as there would be no algorithm preventing more being printed, also the name itself is BitCoin not BitPaper so no i definitely do not see that happening there is no reason why somebody cant just print their own replica though i guess

Bitcoin will not become extinct or reach a value of zero just because all coins have been mined and even then it is predicted that all the bitcoins will only be mind by 2100 something more than 80 years from now, so much could change then cryptos and the markets are still evolving day to day so who knows in 80 years what the situation could be like!

Re: Bitcoin destroyed?
by

Destroyed in what sense? Some people have already said that if or when governments 'ban' cryptocurrencies then bitcoin will die but in reality is it even possible to ban bitcoin. The fact that is it decentralised and controlled by nobody surely protects it from this. Banks for sure could ban clients using their cards to buy bitcoin but in the long run i dont see this lasting as it just takes one bank to accept its clients to buy bitcoin to change the ideas of the others as this bank would surely become very succesful and profitable!

Guys all this banning is manipulation on price for certain people to gain more holdings in their favourite or the most profitable coins! Anyway even having said that, for the regular investor like you and me the bans will definitely affect us, so i think privacy coins will be the go to solutions for the future especially coins like DeepOnion and Cloak Coin, DeepOnion allows users even in China to access their wallets, with TOR updates and OBSF4 protecting them from blocks!

Like others have said this is the year of the privacy coins! We are still yet to see a real breakout from privacy coins yet but im sure that its not far off! Look at the main ones like Monero and ZCash of course but also look at Cloak Coin and DeepOnion! In terms of non privacy coins i would reccommend looking at ones like UTrust or arcblocks when it hits the exchanges!

Some great coins in the list but i think Cloak Coin and Hush could be added as well. There are also some lower capped coins like Kore, Stealth Coin and DeepOnion which deserve some mentions as well. Operating in the shadows so to speak in comparison to the bigger privacy coins like Monero and ZCash but still implementing some great features. Look out for DeepOnion's DeepSend coming up in the next few months could be a game changer!

Re: I need an advice when buying Antminer S9

Given that they are releasing a third batch on their website for 2320 $4000 is obviously not a great price now and at that price you will see a very long payback period on it so i dont think it is worth it. Either save the money and wait for a new miner and get in on the 1st batch or look at other options such as Baikal Miners, L3+ or even dragonmint.

Re: Asic Mining Ethernet Setup?

Tried mining with wireless. Gave up and bought myself a switch. The frustration, when you woke up and saw that your rig has been offline for the entire night, got just too severe.

I get it i would be super annoyed with that as well just considering the layout of my house running an ethernet through the house to reach where i will locate my miners is kind of awkward to say the least. From a little recent research i have done i came across these, any idea if they are worth it or not? Or will they be unstable too you think?

What price and from where first of all, beware of the many scams out there, as these are quite hard to come by often a good price plus in stock is a little bit dodgy. Also have in mind that Dragonmint will release a 16th miner in the next few months which will be more profitable than the s9 currently is. However if bitcoin rallies again to over 20k then i can see the s9 still being profitable for a while but to know fully i would have to know the price your going to pay to know whether it makes sense or not. Also calculate import fees if it is from China.

Thanks for the advice, if i cant find a decent enough wireless bridge then i think i will go with the network switch option just dreading having the ethernet cable running thru my house but i guess for the time being if my asic is making money i dont mind too much...

so you have a modem/router/wifi device all in one , the only thing you need is a network switch and some network cable Smiley
I would go for this one instead of what you linked in your post :

TP-Link TL-SG105 5-port Metal Gigabit Switch(10/100/1000M RJ45 ports, lüfterloses Passivkühlkonzept)

I hope you know , all asic miners are crazy loud  , and generating  a lot of heat ...

Yes i am aware that they sound like a plane and are hotter than a volcano Smiley Thats why i am trying to find the best solution to get it as far away from any ares in the house that we use often. Thats why i was hoping a wireless bridge could be used but dont know how stable it will be connected to the pool.

What is your network setup ?
You dont need another router ... what you need is a network switch

So you setup should look like this :

MODEM - ROUTER - NETWORK SWITCH
or
MODEM with built in ROUTER - NETWORK SWITCH , then you can connect anything to the network switch with wired connection.

If you want to connect 7 extra device with wired connection there is a switch for you :
NETGEAR ProSAFE 8-Port Gigabit Ethernet Switch (GS108) - Lifetime Warranty

If you want to connect 4 extra devices with wired connection there is a switch for you :
NETGEAR ProSAFE 5-Port Gigabit Ethernet Switch (GS105 v5) - Lifetime Warranty

Thanks for the advice. Currently my setup is similar to this... https://www.cnet.com/products/cisco-epc3925-wireless-residential-gateway/specs/

A basic modem connected to the wall that came with my internet providers tv and internet package.

Is something like this fine then? https://www.amazon.de/TP-Link-TL-SF1005D-Netzwerk-Switch-100MBit/dp/B000FNFSPY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1517417345&sr=8-1&keywords=network+switch

This will not affect the stability of the miner at all will it? For some reason i heard before that the connection may not stay as stable and may keep losing connection to the pool but don't know how valid that was and to be honest this way seems to be the best way to have a setup running by getting a network switch. Thanks for your help.

With a network switch it still means that i will need to have one ethernet cable connecting the two meaning a wire going through my house, sorry i forgot to mention that. That is why i was wondering if a network bridge would be suitable or not.

Yeah i was wondering if that was the case or not, i just happened to be viewing their site earlier today and saw it at $980. I think even with the increase of difficulty that comes with a second batch there will still be room to make profit and breakeven in at least 6 months i think. Say the average payout per day halves from now so maybe $15-20 a day with the miner being so much cheaper than the first batch it should still be worth a punt for those who missed out on the first sale.

Re: Isn't mining a bit old fashion?

Doesn't every new big new technological boom show a huge increase in electricity usage at its early stages. I don't have hard numbers but i am sure that when the dot com boom took place there was also a big affect on electricity consumption with newer tech being created to satisfy the demands of the industry. Anyone my point is that this has surely happened in history it is just portrayed in different ways by the people with power so that the average joes have different perceptions on it i.e the media generally hasn't been pro cryptocurrency or bitcoin at all so of course they would use this as an argument against it.

Did anyone buy in the most recent batch? I dont know how long it has been available for but considering the much cheaper price than the 1st batch was sold for i would have expected more to be picked up by now... i mean of course you wont get the crazy profit that the 1st people managed but still $20-$30 a day should be possible when people who get the second batch start up their machines. Maybe the negative mood and slump in the market has discouraged people and the difficulty will hardly alter, consider that quite a few people just buy the miners to then sell on at a profit on third party sites so these machines wont be used for mining for a little while after so therefore wont add to the difficulty.

Asic Mining Ethernet Setup?
by
Pantoflascrypt017
on 31/01/2018, 16:29:55 UTC
Hi guys,

I am thinking of getting into Asic Mining real soon (i know many people prefer GPU) but for now i am only considering ASIC Miners. Anyway i have a few concerns which i was hoping somebody could help me with first. Basically as i understand ASIC miners need to be connected to the router via an ethernet cable, however where i live they double your monthly fee if you install another router in your home so i am stuck with the one i have right now. This is a bit of an issue as right now it needs to be near the TV so the TV box can connect to the internet and get channels etc, i know its a stupid setup.

Anyway i saw a video where someone got a wireless bridge and connected his asic to that via ethernet but i have heard that this will affect mining profitability as it may be unstable. Is this true? and if so what other potential solutions do i have?

Thanks for your help
