Hi,
What is the maximum current for 5v ON YOUR PSU.. if you use 12 times 2 amps you use 24 amps with 5 volt, that will be 120watt on the 5 volt rail.
maybe thats to much...

Your PSU is 15 amps max on 5 volt so there is to little juice. Try using 8 off them on 600 clock speed.than you use about 1.5amp per mld.
Remove the other 4 for testing purpose.
8 mld's times 1.5amp = 12amp. That will do and your PSU will have a little margin 15-12 = 3 amps. Or buy a bigger PSU.
For your information 600 clock is about 1.5 a 1.7amps, if you go to 796 the power draw can be 2amps per mld with margins , and so on for 8XXmhz
The higher the clock speed the higher the amps.
I use the mld's on clock 796 this is what I measure
MLD1 t=60 graden 1,65A CoreV=0,746volt
MLD2 t=56 graden 1,77A CoreV=0,763volt
MLD3 t=60 graden 2,05A CoreV=0,748volt
MLD4 t=70 graden 1,78A CoreV=0,739volt
MLD5 t=59 graden 1,8A CoreV=0,764volt
graden = degrees (dutchman)
So you see there can be a huge difference in the MLD's

Hi again - it's the guy with the half-hashrate MLD. I think my original post has been a bit lost, so I wanted to start again here (I know that sounds really selfish, although I really need to get this miner working again). This is how the conversation went so far:
Has anything changed in your setup? Low hash rate is usually because you don't provide enough power to device (added another USB device?) or the device is overheating. You need better cooling or turn down the frequency. What happens when you unplug for 5 minutes... does hash rate go back up?
Nothing has changed... I tried unplugging it and rebooting the whole thing - nothing. The power was working fin before, and nothing has changed, so I can't think what it would be...
Thats normal, especially if its been running straight for a really long time. Some cores will destabilize and shutdown eventually. Driver has a fix for a complete core stall, but not drop in hashrate yet. Will have this fix in on the next release.
And just to be clear - the cores can come back online right?

The restart hasn't worked - it's just stayed around that same 2.7. And the odd thing is, the miner hasn't actually been running straight ever for that long. I always give it a 5 min break every day (used to be twice a day) in fear of it overheating (I know it's stupid, but just a paranoia). Is there any other possible explanation?

On what pool are you on.. I use multipool with 796 clock and the hash rate is stable now for about 1 month on 4,5 mhz per mld.. using aprox. 2 amps per mld.
The only way to know what is happening is to measure volts and amps to know what the real problem is
Use a usb measuring device they are on eBay or Ali for 3 bucks..

Maybe I'm dumb, but is there an easy way to tell which device is which?

Only way is to match the serial number in bfgminer to the device. The disable function is currently not implemented in the driver, but it will be in the next release.
Best way is to number the moonlanders by hand on the stick. Put them 1 by 1 in the usb port and read out the serial with bfgminer. Now you can track them down..
Oh! I was wondering about that serial number.
Where can I find the number on the board? Or how do they relate?

Well I finally got my ball bearing fans in for the stock replacements.
They work well but they are extremely loud compared to the stock sleeve fan.
They are the same type/brand as the stock fan, just ball bearing, direct replacement.

You probably bought one that is really high RPM...these fans can go up to 15k RPM. You only need about 7-10k RPM to properly cool these. Stock fans run around 9-11k.
Yeah I got the 10k ones, couldn't find lower.
I tried a 15k and those were seriously loud.
On a side note, I have zero explanation as to why -- I threw the Asic I thought that was dead on a different hub after not using it for a few days and its been working for like a week now. I'm now wondering if the 100% HW error and extremely low hashrate rate was being caused by something else, perhaps the port on the hub I was using.
Can you share with us the model and brand name of the fan..

I've just ordered 3 Moonlander2 and now i'm trying to find out how to make a mining setup with raspbianPi3.
Would a Raspbian install (via NOOBS) be ok or should I get another distro?
Does anyone from Europe have a link to an USB hub that's working for my micro-setup with 3 Moonlanders?
Do you need an extra fan to cool the Moonlanders?
Maybe you also have a suggestion for a Raspberry Pi case (I don't really know if necessary).

Well for starters you don't need a case for the RPI3 its only for the protection.
It don't matter which version (NOOBS or stretch)of rasbian you use, always use the latest 1.
For the USB hub with 3 moonlanders I use https://www.amazon.de/Plugable-SuperSpeed-Netzteil-Schnelllade-Unterstützung-Android/dp/B00RNFY8HQ/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1514328172&sr=8-5&keywords=plugable+usb+3.0
now running with 4 of them on MLD:clock=796 without problems. Heating well, with a usb fan they become between 45/50 degrees, so no problems..

Are all those available frequencies safe to run without more cooling? I have no option to measure but "beast" gets pretty hot when I try to kiss it goodnight @796 or more (room temp. never exceeds 20C/70F)...
I'd be interested to know that too. I backed my three down to 700 but the heatsink on the non-fan side is still too hot to touch for more than a few seconds. I have a temp gun, what's a safe temp to shoot for?
Stock cooling solutions is good up to ~800 MHZ, after that you get into overheat territory (not to mention parabolic increase in current draw). The buck and ASIC can handle max frequency but I wouldn't run them unless you can measure temperature and its under 80C on the top of the small heatsink (translates to about 90C ASIC core). Anything past that your reducing the lifetime of the ASIC/buck. This will be even worse if you have a bunch of them together (since they are sucking each others hot air).

Is there a possibility for temp. measurement in the asic it self by the bfgminer software so we can see the temp per MLD.

I have only 1 moonlander at this time, but using https://www.sitecom.com/nl/usb-30-fast-charging-hub-4-port/cn-085/p/1725 for 3 days now.
It is running flawless :-) Using 1.7 amp at 5 Volt on 756mhz setting.

Running clock set at 756 hz and using 1,7Amp 5V hashing 4,2Mh/s ---running flawless .06% error rate
Running clock set at 823 hz and using 2Amp 5V hashing 4,7Mh/s. ---running flawless .17% error rate

I've received my four and they seem to be working ok, but they are dying occasionally. Like this morning two of three I have plugged into one comp were just not hashing, but had been working for the whole day while I was awake yesterday. When I restart bfgminer they're working fine though. Is this related to using higher frequency? Higher frequency without tuning voltage? Computer not splitting enough current? Something else?
Did you change from stock setting? You get zombie state if USB port can't provide enough amperage. On multiple devices, if one device acts up, that can't affect the other ones. Single stock is most stable but multi stock you should expect them to zombie hopefully later than sooner.
I did increase clock frequency to 700-something. Two are plugged directly into mobo and one in USB on front side of comp. I'll try to go back to stick and see if they can work uninterrupted for couple days at least. This is on Windows 7 computer.
Im working on a fix to keep the alive automatically. The current dead/restart logic is bugged in bfgminer, so I'm going to implement it directly in the driver. Should have a new release out in the next few days.
any idea when the driver release may be available with auto-restart? once my hub comes i'm thinking about just loading minera on my raspberry pi but until then...
