At the beginning, I can recommend to look strong project like Neo or ethereum, because you are beginner and you can do stress and excitement at other altcoins, for example they can drop %30-40 easily in one day but neo dont drop like this much, so you can start with them.

That is right. The top 10 market cap and mineable coins like Bitcoin, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash or Monero are good candidates.

Re: Many AMD GPU's available. Are you still buying?

I notice that many AMD Gpu's are available for regular price now.  Are you guys still buying rigs? Or is it at a point where it's not very wise to build more rigs?
Hi, my thinking it's way with nVidia cards only,
The reasons:
1. Lower voltage.
2. Better cooling systems.
3. Better to overclocking.
4. The price not so much upper.

Right now on the ~500mhs it's 2.5eth per month,
15 GPU's of Nvidia 1060 6GB - around 355 mhs and the price for cards was ~4500 euros + ~2000 euros for PSU's and others.
5 GPU's of AMD Cards - 138 mhs - the price was ~1500 euros + ~700 euros for PSU's and others
Total:8700euro
Per month:644,625 euros
Electricity: 100euros
Placement: 80euros
Total profit:464,62euro
So right now it's not so profitable to build new rigs, actually payback of GPUs around 13-18 monthes. (And it's with low voltage cards. With Red i think it will up to 20-24 month)

I have similar calculation. So unless there is big pump of the altcoins, it is not worth investing in mining.

Re: 9 GPUs in Windows ok, but Miner won't start

Hi,

my rig (Asus Prime Z270-A + MSI 1060) works well, when booting up with 8 GPUs (using 1 M.2 -> PCIe adapter).
When booting up with 9 GPUs (using 2 M.2 -> PCIe adapter) the 9 cards appear correctly in Windows 10 64 Bit (8 GB RAM), but miner (tried Claymore and ethminer) won't start.

See the pics. Do you have any plan, why it doesn't work with 9 GPUs? I heard, that one can't use GPUs in both M.2 slots of the Asus Prime Z270-A, but Windows discovered both GPUs correctly:

https://i.imgur.com/5Ho2eDq.jpg

https://i.imgur.com/qRAeRlT.jpg

my Prime z270p have the same issue.
8 cards working fine.
When 9+ cards,  windows crashed in few min., even I done nothing.
So I guess maybe the intel chipset driver problem? who knows.
or the z270 chipset  limited by ASUS BIOS?

Do you mean it crash before mining?

Spending bitcoins is part of the cycle so if it will stop, the whole network will stop also from working and that is the end. We know that it is very impossible to happen because every second there's a lot of transactions worldwide.

That is right. That is why I spend a few bitcoins every year.

Re: Claymore's ZCash AMD GPU Miner v12.3 (Windows/Linux)

I had a disastrous day today.  I attempted to add a second PSU to my rig along with a RX480.  My rig was 3 r9 380x vid cards and a 750w power supply.  Well I fried my motherboard.  Which led me to having to get a new mobo, and cpu and memory (local fry's no longer carried lower end mobo that I was using).

Well I got everything hooked up, and the rig when only the RX 480 is hooked up runs just fine.  I cannot boot into ubuntu when even 1 of the r9 380x's is plugged into the mobo.  It just seems to hang.

Does anyone know if a 380x and rx 480 are not compatible?  It seems like they use the same drivers.  Not sure what is going on here. Do I just need to throw in the towel and ditch the 380x's and get more rx 480s?

Figured out my problem.  My risers were fried too.  And one of my 380x's.  Have 2 380x and rx480 mining now.  Have a new r9 Fury arriving Wednesday...

How much did you pay for the new r9 Fury ?

Actually we must have to consider this fact as logical statement if no one spends bitcoin.

Actually this cannot be happen. Because in market if no one going to sale bitcoin and if demand is increasing then price of bitcoin can reach to sky.
But this will never happen. Because till date bitcoin mining is going on and till 2145 mining will be continued. So till 2145 miner only get rewards for verifying transactions made within network. In no one spend bitcoin no miner will get paid.

If nobody spends bitcoin, it is useless and therefore worthless.

If no one spend bitcoin, it will gives bad impact to bitcoin. Without good circulation, the hoarder will influence bitcoin price easier. I think the important thing is not just circulation but spreading is important too.

Yes spreading or letting others know that there is a bitcoin existing that help them financially and everything with their transactions. And you said the possible thing that can happen for real. Just think about these days that those individuals or groups that are holding a lot of bitcoins has making big impact to the price of bitcoin, they are going to have more power when no one is spending it.

Spending the bitcoin and the retailers can keep the bitcoin for some time, that will ease the pressure to sell in exchanges.

This is my output :

Claymore v9.2

MSI R9 390X = 320 Sol
XFX RX480 8GB = 236 Sol
Windforce R9 Fury =316 Sol

Thanks Claymore!

My R9 nano is 3% faster.

if no one spends any bitcoin it loses its value as a form of currency.it becomes a currency that doesnt transact.

Also if everyone just holds their bitcoin, this decreases the amount of bitcoins being sold to essentially 0,meaning the buy price would go up drastically, therefore increasing the value.  Lips sealed

That is absolutely right. That is the reason that some of us should use the bitcoin to make it useful.

I doubt that can happen, That's the same as saying that people won't use money as people don't coordinate like that and everything is random... Anyway if that happen "regardless of how improbable of it to happen" I think the price would increase if there is still demand and buyers.

The bitcoin price will rise when there is good amount of bitcoin being used to buy things by the people.

Re: The Halvening

Also If you say it would hit as low as $300 then a lot of miners would probably stop cause that means their payment just got halved, why would they continue? That being the case, bitcoin circulation would be more difficult.
That's just a simple answer because for defining doing the mining is not profitable in this time a lot of people just considering from 1 perspective and they're not considering from the another reason from halving.

If your electricity price is low and heating is not a problem, you can continue mining. It is still profitable.

I agree with you. In an event of no one spending, any Bitcoin the price would stay stable for a long time. Mining would die off as there are no transactions to verify and the blockchain would freeze. Basically, everything would freeze until everyone begins to spend BTC again.

 Smiley
thats true, or the price would even go up because people would buy and pump the price up significantly, that would be great

To be honest, I do not like the big pump of the bitcoin. Too much volatility is bad for the mass adoption to be a general currency.

Today (somewhat late...):  ETH: $11.09 ; ETC: $1.71

sum: $12.80

The ETH + ETC price is quite stable for the last few days. It seems the investors are still very interested in the coins.

If you just want to mine the Ethereum, 470 could be a good choice as it has simlar memory bandwidth to the 480.

The halving will be profitable for us all and I think we can make a lot of money with just the halving right now.
Its very nice to have the halving near its gonna be very profitable.

The block halving still 2 day left
but the price of bitcoin is down today. I guess after the block halving the price of bitcoin will rise.

The price could drop for a few more days, then it might rise after the halving. The whales are getting more coins.

Re: R9 Nano Modded Rom
by

on 23/06/2016, 14:02:28 UTC

First of all i want to thank Eliovp for the sharing of knowledge and all the thread participants for the added infos.

I'm on the -175mV rom since 4 days now and all is fine but headless boot won't work.
I need to plug hdmi to monitor and it boots fine
at the moment i have two nanos on usb risers and one on motherboard, one 700W PSU
mobo is H81 Pro BTC and i'm booting lubuntu with claymore's on thumb usb

@Eliovp: i think i have read u have the same mobo and same cpu celeron g1840 did u have issues on headless booting?

also i'm on 312w reading on killawatt for mobo+3nanos with your stock -175mV rom audio and sata's disabled is that good? i thowght i'd go lower with 75watt for each nano i was expecting.

i'm going to try -200mV stock soon.

Thank you again Smiley

good mining to all.

You're very welcome!

Yup, headless booting is an issue as well, but i don't really need it tbh..

Should be around 75-80W per card. It is so over here Smiley

Anyhow, got a new rom, 1.5Mh speed increase per card for Ethereum at the same power usage Wink, in my case, that's 8Mh extra per rig which is a lot Wink

will release it soon!

Greetings!
Really curious how what did you do to the ROM to increase speed at the same wattage?
Increasing the core/mem clock will result in increase power usage, so I think something else?

The Rom drops the core and the memory voltage, without affecting the frequency. So for the same power, higher hash.

Of course I am holding some for a price increase, that is the point of any investment right?

Who knows what value it will go to in the future though, that is market dependent.
So it's like a savings account for you? Just put your money there and wait?
I guess that's a good thing.
I sort of do that too.

I do not same. I have some bitcoins I mined in 2013. I still keep them in my cold wallet. I would like to see the price in 20 years.

Hey guys, just got back from holiday.

My apologies for not being able to reply to all messages.

Claymores Dual Miner.

Thanks I will check it out.

CDM mines ETH and DCR together.

I use the ETH only mode, and CDM can push the 390 to near 30MHs.

I used qtminer before this because of the Stratum mode, now it's all CDM for my 390 rigs (149.5MHs@5x390@1290w-1350w@-100mV/1028Mhz/1500Mhz). Quite slick this miner, and its has many bells and whistles like failover, monitoring, solo-mode w/o proxy and it's Stratum compliant too.

I will be attempting Eliovp's Nano mod for my first Nano rig (I am still trying to get an afternoon off to do this). And combined with CDM, I think we have a winner for the highest hash at lowest possible wattage, amps for ETH mining.

Have you tried to mine with 1200 memory frequency. For my XFX 390 cards, there is no difference between 1200 and 1500MHz with 1050 Core.

WI'll try it out. My 390 is MSI so I think no issues in underclocking the memory mhz.

When mining Eth, you can easily down clock that mem to 1125. Works perfectly Smiley

And if you can, undervolt AUX (Voltage given to the memory controller), it won't make such a huge impact, but every bit counts Smiley

Greetings!

When you reduce the  memory frequency from 1500 to 1200 MHz, it will save 20% of energy consumed by the memory.
