Re: How can Bitcoin fail?

Have anyone considered the security of Ethereum?

Think about all the computing power used to power bitcoin, if these miners turned there computing power onto disrupting Ethereum wouldn't that cause a problem?

Bitcoiners will have an incentive to disrupt the Etherum system.

Also, you can get Etherum secured by Bitcoin via counterparty (its a meta-coin not alt-coin)

Well, we know anyone can issue a security on there. But if it doesn't have regulatory backing from your state then obviously you won't be able to use it without the risk of getting yourself in trouble. Also if it gets regulatory approval, big names (namely overstock) will list themselves on it. So regulatory clarity and development, will work in the favor of the Counterparty development and XCP currency for the speculators. This explains a little about time frame http://www.counterpartyforum.com/forum/main-forum/24-adam-krellenstein-speaks-about-counterparty

I'm wondering whether the price of XCP is in a bull market at the moment? http://www.counterpartyforum.com/forum/main-forum/20-xcp-price-speculation-is-xcp-undervalued

Re: Advice on paper wallet

Same I keep hearing newbies should not be doing this, yet on the other hand people say its a secure way of storing your bitcoin..

I cant see what problem can occur. Simply send Bitcoin to the generated public key and when you want to access the funds simply sweep the private key on a site that has this function.

Can anyone provide any caution? Or possible failure points?

Advice on paper wallet

I need some advice

So, Im planning on putting my bitcoin into cold storage. I have created a paper wallet on bitaddress.org and also made a copy of it. Then I laminated both copies... Provided I keep these paper wallets in secure locations, are they the best options in regards to bitcoin storage? Also is sweeping the private key easy when it comes accessing the bitcoin in the future?

Wouldn't this also be a good opportunity to implement any changes for efficiency issues to the protocol now that mining power is cornered?

I know everyone is freaking out and alarm bells should be ringing, but correct me if im wrong there has never been a 51 hash rate reached before? If so its perfect timing that this is happening now, we get to see with our own eyes what happens with the protocol once a 51% hashrate is reached before Bitcoin goes mainstream. Its all part of the experiment. Im sure this issues will be revolved and we may never reach 51% again. In the mean time the price is dropping as people are panic selling. I say now is the time to buy Smiley At the bare minimum HODL!

Found Hamiltons post funny  Grin

Ok so it will come to a point where people will be able to make estimates on how much Bitcoin is lost every year, once adoption rates slows down and stabilizes tt will be interesting to see if the rate of lost Bitcoin will be more or less than standard fiat. Bitcoin might eventually be more secure than fiat, especially since multi-sig and all. But I've read quite a few members on reddit simply sending Bitcoin to the wrong address, one person recently sent Bitcoin to the recently defunct M.t Gox. So the issues is not quite the limited supply of Bitcoin, this is a good attribute, the issues is it's useability. Im confident that issues regarding useability will improve with time though.

Thanks for the reply, so what does hard fork entail? Would it be able to resolve the initial problem though?

Or what would happen if improved cryptography comes along, how would the protocol deal with this? Would a layer on top of the current protocol be enough to patch it up or will Bitcoin die?
