I would definitely be up for a 32 g/h unit if the price is around the $500 mark, but if difficulty keeps rising the hardware costs will have to come down.
We are going to see the hobby miners all dying off otherwise.

I'm in for one if delivery is going to be under 4 to 6 weeks from order. but not "Two WeeksTM" Grin

Re: Raspberry Pi

I have read somewhere on the web that the way to go with a Pi is to connect the first two USB hubs directly to the PI, then the "working" hubs all connect to the first two.
Something about not having too many layers of hubs comes to mind.

I had problems with my 3 hubs on my Pi, this method worked ok.

In theory you could have 2 x 10 port then connect another 20 x 10 port USB hubs, for 200 USB ports but I think that anything after 35 - 40 erupters is too much CPU load for a Pi.

The Pi's are cheap enough to have a few running anyway.

If you can afford 200 USB miners you wont worry about the cost of 5 Pi's  Grin

Please dont offset the USB connector to one side, put it in the middle or you maybe shutting out the use of a USB socket to the side of the device.  That is unless the proposed device is so big that its going to do that anyway?...

I have gone to the cryptominer website, opened an account and deposited 0.4 BTC, but get "no orders have been placed yet" on my order status.
Has the order system been adjusted to reflect the price change?  The home page still shows the price of an Asicminer USB at 0.55 BTC.

Cheers,

Re: Dual Xeons?

You may be better off buying a Mac Pro, new if money is no object, or older used one if it is.

I have an old Mac Pro 1,1 (2006) with dual Quad core Xeons @ 2.66ghz and its easily the fastest machine I ever had, and I had a few.

The later Mac Pro's have dual 6 core Xeons, but you need a lottery win first  Grin

edit:  stay away from the 1,1 and 2,1 machines as the boot system (EFI) is 32 bit and they are not able to run the latest OSX. You are not limited to Mac operating system tho, Windoze or Linux work fine with these great machines

Re: Can I use ASICMiner Block Erupter on Mac?
by

I have not managed to get Macminer or Asteroid working on my MacPro, it maybe because I am running 10.7.4, or I dont have the correct libraries etc.

I have spent a lot of time trying, and finally gave up.

Cgminer works well, also Diablo and Bfgminer.

I must agree with the statements about the Mac being a nicer/faster OS to use, I have been a PC/MAC tech for many many years, didnt like the Mac much until the processors changed over to Intel.  I was always a fan of Linux/RISC OS due to being a network administrator on RS mini's (showing my age now).

The Mac is like a breath of fresh air compared to the pc.

They both have their advantages, but you can't run your PC as a Mac when you need to  Grin

I have used block erupters on my Mac Pro, but only with Bitminter software (Java based), they worked fine.

I have had lots of problems with other software, but got most stuff working eventually, using a PC version AMD 5770 card for GPU mining.

I havent tried any other software with my erupters (they are running on a Raspberry Pi to save electric costs) but I believe they would work ok on the Mac with the latest version of CGminer.

Phil.

edit:  You need to install a USB driver, the link is here on Bitcointalk somewhere (its a Silabs UART driver?)

Only half wave bridge rectifier?  Another two diodes would go nicely Smiley

Amazing work, wish I had the knowledge for that.

My rig:

http://imageshack.com/scaled/large/853/fy7e.jpg

10 block erupter's running 3.3G/H

ATX power supply

Raspberry Pi

I have three hubs as it was the only configuration I could find that was stable, I suspect the power traces on the hubs were not up to the job.

Waiting for my BFL 7G/H, and waiting to see whats next in ASIC before I spend any more $$

Re: bad Block Erupter?
by

If there is room in my usb hub, I'm going to stick small heatsinks on the Erupter's UART (CP2021), the regulator (AOZ1021) and the BE chip (BE100).

My intention is to extend the life of the device by bringing down the overall PCB temperature. The components that get hot may be ok with it, but the whole USB is getting very hot, and all the components will be cooking.

I have a small, quiet USB fan from ebay for $2 that will be running 24/7.

My neighbour has a FLIR camera, when I get my Erupters I will ask him for a picture or two and post them here.

I'll do before and after heatsinks.

Just wanna get my Erupters!

Re: 7950 Rig with Display Questions
by
Philj6970
on 20/07/2013, 09:35:52 UTC
The best test you can do to see if the card will mine would be to go to www.bitminter.com and create an account.

You can use the software that is supplied by the pool, its the easiest start anyone could find.

Even though it will only mine bitcoins, it is a good test for your rig.

You dont need to be getting a display from a video card to be able to mine with it.

I have a PC video card in my Mac Pro that mines for me, and it has never been attached to a monitor, the other video card in my Mac does that for me.

You should be able to use only the motherboard video with no problems.

Dont forget you will still need to load the drivers for the other video cards though.

edit:

Is your power supply up to the job? You need about 200 watts per card and at least 200 watts for the motherboard.

Just work with one card at a time, add another when you have the simpler setup running.
