Well, your post is another good reminder about the golden rule of BTC investing -- Never buy at the top.
If you're hodler and you actually can afford to lose whatever you have then just continue to hodl otherwise, you may think about selling.
The general ideology of hodl is  about long term hodlin and I'm sure that BTC will be even bigger in a year (or more) so  long term hodlers won't realy lose their money. Anyway selling now and then buying at bigger price will still increase your btc amount.

"Never buy at the top" is hard to operate. If I would not have bought BTC at the time where it was 5k, which was a ATH at the time and just waited, then I would have missed a great opportunity.
It is to me more whether you feel and expect the BTC price to go higher. At the end of the day, if in a year from now BTC is worth 50k, whether you bought it 5k or 15k does not make such a big difference.

Trading based on BTC or ETH?
by
Piercoin
on 07/12/2017, 12:02:35 UTC
I am not a newbie in Hodling but definitely in Trading Grin

So far, I have mainly acquired new coins through EUR because I feel more secure in doing so. Exchanging crypto to crypto forces me to take into consideration the triangulation BTC/ETH vs. new coin vs. EUR since price of BTC and ETH are very volatile and at this moment going fast up. So, I am (mistakenly?) not considering BTC or ETH as the basis for trade.

On some exchange platforms however, there is not much choice to acquire a new coin: it is either in BTC or ETH.

So far I have tried with both, BTC and ETH, and I am (mistakenly?) feeling more comfortable exchanging on the basis of ETH since the price is less raising and more stable.

However, I would like to know from experienced traders on which basis you are trading, and whether I am doing big mistakes in trading on the basis of ETH?

These are certainly basic understanding of crypto-trading which I am lacking. But all in all, this triangulation BTC/ETH vs. new coin vs. EUR is difficult for me to grasp.

Thank you for your help!

Are we sure that all Bitcoins will one day be mined? If the costs of mining are rising, the interest in mining may decline; and despite the value of BTC at this time, people may lose interest?

I guess everything is possible with BTC, the best like the worst. However, dropping to 3.000 USD can be a good thing for investors  Wink

I don't understand what these unconfirmed transaction actually imply.
That the value of BTC is (artificially) lower than in reality?
Or on the contrary, that BCH value will again increase after the transaction are confirmed?

Which strategy for long-term investment on diversified portfolio?
by
Piercoin
on 10/11/2017, 11:48:33 UTC
Good day!

I have invested in crypto and I am looking for a good strategy for medium/long-term investment (let's say 3-4 years).

So far, I constituted a portfolio as follows:
BTC: 55%
ETH: 20%
BCH: 9%
Other alt: 15%

In this bag of 15%, I have ~23 altcoins, namely: LTC, DASH, XRP, NEO, XEM, ETC, XMR, QTUM, ZEC, EOS, WAVE, STRAT, REP, GNT, BAT, FCT, SALT, CVC, MTL, MCO, STORJ, MLN, and POT for fun.
In addition, 1% is invested in ICO, e.g. Utrust.

I am not a high technician in crypto and I do not have enough time resources to dive into the specifics of each altcoin. That's why I chose to diversify a lot these 15% based on their high capitalisation and based on cross-checking recommendations from different experts.

Thus, I would like to hear from you whether you think that it is a good approach, how would you manage such portfolio and what you would expect from it.

Looking forward to the good discussion! Smiley

What do you think about investing 2500 USD in around 30 of the most important coins (by market cap), e.g. ETH, ETC, XRP, DASH, WAVES, etc.?
