We actually did have a launch last night with some play, by any chance do you not have Metamask installed with the browser you're trying to access the game with? Probably needed to make this point more often that Metamask is necessary to interact with the contract through the browser.

The game is live, do you have Metamask installed? Have mentioned this briefly at other points but probably didn't make it clear enough that right now you do need to have Metamask installed in order to interact with the game.

Just wanted to remind everyone, PopCoin will be launching TODAY!

Another reminder that the first game will be seeded with 2 ETH to kick things off, try to get there early!

We've included a way for us to reseed the game (basically add more fee money to the pot) in case the action ever gets too slow and things need to be kickstarted a bit. The thing is we've set the game up so that smaller players could potentially do very well against whales, it's all about just watching the game and getting in at the right moment.

We're actually distributing coins in a very novel way. There won't be a traditional ICO, and instead of distributing coins to miners whether that be through Proof of Work or Proof of Stake instead coins will be issued to players who participate in the game we'll be launching very shortly, a process we call Proof of Play.

Thanks for your feedback. We've always designed PopCoin to be the currency for all the suite games we plan to develop, which while possibly debatable in terms of the larger social significance they will have, hopefully will me a significant impact in the larger crypto gaming space and will deliver real innovation in terms of how gaming companies reward their players, and especially their early players.

I think some of the confusion around scoping might be because of the terminology; we do use the word "PopCoin" to refer both to PopCoin the game and PopCoin the cryptocurrency. Some of this was to make it clear that however many future games are built PopCoins themselves, and thus they way players can have a claim to the rake not just for this but all future games, will only be issued though this first game. In order to earn PopCoins you have to play PopCoin.

Although we do have other games in the pipeline our primary focus at this point is making our first game as big of a success as possible.

We hope everyone will join us for our upcoming launch, we really think it's going to be something special.

Thanks for your feedback, realizing made a small mistake in the time conversion, actually going to be launching at on 8/21 at 02:00 UTC, so little bit more time until the game begins.

For now the easiest way will be to use metamask through the game UI at http://www.popcoin.gg/game.html. PopCoin is a smart contract like any other though and we'll be publishing the contract source along with ABI so it will be technically possible interact with the game through other means. If someone wanted to put in the effort it should even build your own custom UI, but for most players using the game page at http://www.popcoin.gg/game.html should be easiest.

As far as knowing when the game launches the countdown timer on the game page just below the betting box should provide a good indicator and we'll of course also be making a post in the thread once it goes live. Also once the game is live the "Pot" field will be displayed as greater then 0 and there should be a graph similar to the one in the youtube videos featured in this thread in the center of the page. The large "Bet" button on the game page will also be active.

We've put a lot of work into it and would like to think PopCoin could be one of the most interesting altcoins at least of this year

Other than that, MaidSafeCoin is probably one of the most interesting crypto projects period, although the pace of development is somewhat of a concern. Lots of people don't realize that the core concept actually predates bitcoin, here's a talk of one of the developers gave at Google in 2008: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLA77zxk-vA. Very interesting talk on it's own merits btw.

It seems with the recent price drop there's been a lot of negative sentiment regarding the future of Eth. However, at this point it seems unlikely there won't be some dominant platform for building DApps and launching smart contracts, whether it be Eth or one of its competitors (Cardano, Iota, EOS, etc).

While in the short term price affects sentiment and is easy to track in the long term whichever platform is able to attract the most developers and gain the most real world use will likely be the winner. Is there any easy way to track and compare number  the number of smart contracts launched and their corresponding level of usage use across various platforms in order to get a broad sense of who is gaining traction in such a race?

It seems unlikely at this point there wont be at least one, or possibly more then one large scale platforms for developing DApps and launching token based cryptocurrencies. Although there's obviously a few other contenders, until someone else emerges as the dominant player in this space Eth won't be dead.
