Re: Pad replacement... Do I replace all pads?? or just Mem and Ram
by

Thanks for all the advice! All the pads were oily so I replaced all of them with the 15w pads… what a waste as I didn’t have time to wait for the 7w pass to come in. But it’s good to know that I don’t have to replace ALL the pads as I probably have to replace the 3080 TUF pads since my mem temps seem to be reaching 100* C while mining (power at 80% mem at 1200 core 250)

Pad replacement... Do I replace all pads?? or just Mem and Ram
by

Hello all,

These 15w pads are expensive and kinda hard to cut and make use of this super small sheet (90mm x 60mm) in a way which i have zero waste from this expensive pad. Assuming I have to replace all pads on the entire card, i went ahead and purchased a few of these in a few different sizes. All cost me around $50 and a WHOLE lot of time to replace the pads.

So, all pads seemed to be oily but there were certain pads that I think didnt really need replacing, like on the SMD resistors/inverters, let alone with a 15w pad. Is it common practice to replace ALL pads with the same pads? or would I be better off replacing just the mem and ram with these 15w pads?

Normally when I had some cable melt or GPU blow up a capacitor all it does is make the rig crash. Never led to an actual fire. However I was always worried.

Kept all the rigs on metal open air cases and on a metal rack and kept away from anything flammable. Also had extra smoke detectors near the mining rigs. So if anything happened when I was home I would run quick. If I wasn't home then that's another issue.

I guess you can have a remote smoke detector and some cameras, you see the rig go up in flames you can call the fire dept. No idea if it would help that much since you are remote however.

I did add a NEST temperature sensor by the rig to monitor that locations temperature as well as 1 large exhaust fan (a tall narrow one. Like an ionizing fan) and 1 Milwaukee fan to use for rapid cooking if needed. Will buy a fire extinguisher today, and the camera, I have an AXIS so I’ll put it to good use

Don’t need my home burning down either.

I hop between using miniZ, lolminer, and trex, though, I assume any added exceptions shouldn’t vary much between miners.

My questions are, What type of heat prevention fail safes do you guys use? Electrical wise, I am good. No cable is pulling more power than it can handle and I still have plenty of headroom on my PSU.
Do you have certain lines where if card reaches this temp, shut it down?

I also have an exception where if miner crashes for whatever reason, to just restart miner. Is there a way to add that if miner crashes 6 times or so to not restart again? Because there may be an obvious problem??

I don't know why many comments are so rude in this thread, if you aren't going to be of help whey even bother to reply in the first place? There is actually a way to turn off GPU LEDs I've tried this on a 3070 ti using hive OS, the menu looks like this

https://i.imgur.com/20OJO0K.jpg

People like to build up their post counts with valueless comments, that’s why. I mod in a large forum elsewhere and you’d be surprised with some of the stupid things people do to get their counts up… most infamous is “like/upvote harvesting”… where people post something like “<—- this many users agree that ETH2.0 is gonna be huge!”. Stupid example but an example nonetheless. And thanks for the tip on hiveOS. I have yet to power down my windows based rig to reconfigure the os

Solo mining flux- Same mega miner coming in and out finding most blocks
by
PolishBaldEagle
on 16/02/2022, 01:31:26 UTC
So I'm trying out my luck by solo mining flux. Though trying to get a better understanding of "Personal Luck", I did some digging around the site (2miners) and noticed that the same miner(s) seems to creep in and out from time to time and when they are mining, they seem to just be scooping up a good portion of the blocks. After I find a block (current "luck" is 6% after 1 day) I'll probably move back over to pool mining. But in the meantime, I'm just curious as to why such a heavy miner comes in and out like that... seems like certain times too.

Yeah I had this issue in the past but it wasn’t with risers it was with Bitcoin ASICs and they were worse because they weren’t permanent solid like a riser LED they blinked consistently. I had them in my room and at night they drove me nuts.

Basically you can try tape but it will fly off due to the heat. So if that doesn’t work and you don’t want to desolder them one by one then use a black permanent marker. You will still see it somewhat but won’t be as bright as before.

Yea, I've put electrical tape on electronics before (wait, what!?) and yea, it just peals off after some time. Never thought of using a permanent marker, ill give that a try now.

LEDs are needed, because it is easy to determine the performance of the raiser from them. But the best resolving for video cards and raisers is the black insulating tape. 2 layers will save you from any light. But if the video cards are in a ventilated case, then the LEDs should not interfere.

But they obviously do interfere which is why I asked the question to begin with

They are, but not a frickin night clubs worth of lights. Only lights I care to see (if any for that matter) is a single power and status light, ethernet lights (those are actually dim), and maybe a dim status light on the riser (prefer non at all though)

THANK YOU!!! This is EXTREMELY helpful!

The same with LEDs of GPUs and motherboards. Some GPUs for example 5700xt from Sapphire has a way to turn off using software but a lot of them for example RadeonVII I am unable to. It would be nice to have no lights whatsoever in mining rig except the one that is on ethernet port.

And why? I don´t understand this problems with the LED´s. Is it danger for your eyes? You sitting the whole day in front of your rig and watch how it runs?  Huh  Cheesy

It's a problem when I am trying to sleep. I have a small home with very limited space where I can keep my tech stuff so I had to settle by sticking the rig in the closet (and keeping it open so it doesnt burn up). Once we move outta this place, this LED issue wont matter as much

3500$ for 115MH? This is why I don't like high end GPU for mining, if your ROI is  your first target you need to go for smaller GPUs, with just 3600$ I help someone build 240MH mining rig with 10x gtx1660, I think this is the cheapest rig I've ever build... Anyways nothing spoilt your ROI will only take longer unless bull market erupt once again.

A big part of why some people choose to go the high end route is that on some older GPUs the efficiency is so low that they cannot turn any profit at all, making them a complete waste where buying Bitcoin alone would be the hands down better option.  Buying the higher end cards may not appear worth it at current difficulty and rates, but these things can change a lot.  Everyone looks like a genius mining with old ASICs now that were being given away for free 18 months ago, but that isn't always the case.  There are so many variables involved in mining, everyone's ideal hardware is different.  Same with people's timeframe and risk tolerance.  Some people mine with old GPUs until they die, others want to game and resell when it's profitable.  You never know what will end up being the best move, but I'm certain it won't be the same for everyone.

So the reason I was going for the older GPU’s is because
1) not as inflated on the resale market. Got them, I think, fairly cheap
2) wanted to get the rig mining at least something
3) my energy cost is not terrible. $0.12kwh
4) I refuse to pay exorbitant scalper prices. Gotta fine tune my script and be patient for drops. Plus I live by a MicroCenter so I can go one day and hit that lottery.
5) I’ll upgrade as I go. I’m sure I can recoup the cost I paid for the other 3 resold GPU’s
6) the learning experience. It’s easy to watch YT vids and read docs, it’s something else when you’re actually doing it

But hey, my reasons could be wrong. I’m still new. Need to learn to crawl before I can walk

Just put a piece of electric tape over them

Thought about that but dont know if it would impact heat dissipation from the motherboard. Ah screw it. Might as well put tape on it and if something fry’s, I’ll just end up fixing it

Useful or not, they are so bright! It would be different if they were quite dim, but these small LED’s literally light up a room. Mind you, I’m just starting out with mining and have no other place to put my rig other than in the closet with the door left open. If I decide to scale (knowing me I probably will) then I won’t worry so much about the lights.

I suppose I’ll just have to de solder the LEDs and place a cap in there or some other SMD chip to bridge the connection

Yes, the biggest cost was the new equipment (ie. motherboard, PSU, CPU, frame, ram, etc). My cost basis should go down when I start adding more GPU’s. Though, I’m thinking I should’ve either bought a second hand rig or not went all out on the 3080 and other expensive stuff. You live and learn.

Based on what I have learned, next build, I’ll be using server PSU’s and various other equipment to cut down on costs. That is, if ETH mining is still around and if alt coin mining is as profitable

These riser LED’s are bright AF! Seriously considering just desoldering them and replacing them with darker ones or something. Would rather just have them off since the rig is in my ventilated closet

I’ve been investing into crypto for a couple of years already, but this time, recently, I decided to take the plunge into crypto mining. I understood the concept but did not have the time and resources to mine without losses. Well, towards the end of the ETH I decided to pull the trigger on equipment anyway.

Costly? Yea… didn’t really realize how much total everything was going to cost me until the end. I’ve been fortunate enough to be obtaining older cards (2060’s) for around $10/Mhs but didn’t realize how much a bare bones rig would actually end up costing! These small things really add up. The little things add up. But I’m not too worried because it’s money I had set aside for this “risk”.

So, the cost to me? Just under a grand for a barebones rig. All new equipment except for the 8th gen CPU
Cards? 3080- paid roughly $1700 because it came with a PC (the whole PC was more but needed the comp anyway) 2 2060’s- $400 and $340, and a 1070- $200

All in all, I’m just over $3,500 in this project, churning a mere 115/Mhs ETH and 150/Mhs on ERGO. Yielding about $6 or so a day, $5 after electric….

Mind you, I’m new to mining. I’ll pay for the experience, but learning ways to cut unnecessary costs.

Motherboard shows CPU compatibility in the 8th and 9th generation. Currently won’t post with the 6100T cpu. Any bios where this cpu may be supported? Otherwise I’ll need to purchase some 8th gen

Lol you write a post here, you tried out but you are to lazy to look in the cpu support list?
If a mainboard has compatibility to newer generation means not it support all cpu´s. Look in the CPU compatibility list and you don´t see your cpu. In my opinion before you start with mining learn some basics.

https://www.biostar-europe.com/app/de/mb/introduction.php?S_ID=927#cpusupport

It takes 10 seconds to find this information. Leave mining is a better choice for you.

Isn't 6100T CPU a 6th gen CPU? If the motherboard is a 8th and 9th gen mobo then you are doing the right thing, find the right CPU and install it, alright I made a little research now and I found out it's a LGA1151 mobo (8th and 9th) gen CPU only compatible.

You do a little research? And why you didn´t look in the CPU support list? Dudes how complicated you are working  Roll Eyes

Lol… I did go on the site and did look at CPU compatibility… and if you understood what I wrote, I basically stated that I know it’s not compatible, but is there a bios firmware workaround… similar to how one would update their bios to support NEWER CPUs, didn’t know if going backwards is compatible too

Here's your answer https://coinmarketcap.com/

If you think that shiba was not good enough to be used as investment and you can stick to another altcoin as well. You can pick some like FTM, UFO, PYR, NEAR,.

You must also be able to read the fundamental of the market. Bitcoin is quite stable at this moment and that means another bullish may come soon as bitcoin reached the bottom. Why don't you just invest in metaverse? So many countries are in preparation to adopt metaverse tokens. This will give you an opportunity to become another early adopters.

As in NFT’s? All I’ve heard was bad press (ie. why own rights to a photo when others can just screenshot it) but to be fair, bitcoin had its bad press in the start and look at it now.

What resources do you have for meta verse? I’ve already heard people buying and selling real (or virtual?) estate on Metaverse

Re: Searching for fast GPU stock/purchase bot [sorry if wrong board]

Before I start, I want to say I already tried and dug through search results. All I was getting was trading bots and an old thread to an archived page.

Is streetmerchant still the top tier script to use? Would I be better off just creating and running my own macros script?? Lots to consider (time to code it, potential IP ban, captchas, verify, testing, bugs, etc) What script do those YouTube miners like red panda use to acquire their GPU’s?

I’m trying to get a total of 3 Founders Edition cards, 3070 or 3080, non TI (if I’m not mistaken, the FE TI are LHR??) I can wait buy getting a little impatient lol

Thanks

Sorry if I posted in wrong board, new and don’t know proper board to post this. This board seems to be the most related to my question
Do you currently have a shortage of video cards in stores?
Profit has already decreased by several times and the prices of video cards have not yet fallen. I would recommend keeping an eye on the aftermarket and looking for non-LHR graphics cards. Now there are a lot of good offers and bargaining is not prohibited.

You do make a good point. I feel like the aftermarket prices will come down as profitability is coming down. As for shortages, yes. Massive shortage. To the point where I am willing to go wait outside a BestBuy on a projected drop day just hoping to snag a card from a canceled order

I’ve known crypto existed for a long time, but not until recently (about a year ago) is when I started investing into crypto and even reallocating investment funds over. It’s not until I started looking into different assets that I wish I looked into this much sooner!  Even put together a mining rig, probably overpaid, with a single 3080 LHR (dual mining). Will ad more as soon as I can buy for good price… I’m not worried about the expense I paid for the computer and graphics card. Needed a new comp anyway, just pulled the GPU.

Either way, I know I’m late to the game, but is it still too late? What may be my best options moving forward??

Still cannot believe I slept on this for so long!!

RPM is a bad example. YT miners similar to him do not truly care about mining or operating a mining setup profitably once their YT revenue exceeds their mining revenue. He could pay top scalper prices for GPUs, and still make money in the end when YT revenue is considered. He is either supplied cards by someone like a fan who profits little on top, or outright purchases from scalpers. Either way it would not matter.

I know RPM is a bad example. I’m just stating any example for the matter… but even non YouTubers. I spoke to this one guy who I was attempting to buy a GPU from and he said he got it in a MicroCenter lotto after MANY DAYS of trying. That doesn’t seem efficient nor do I think that that’s how most people get their stock. Just saying. I’m gonna give Streetmerchant a go
