Oi, I have recently brought my old miner to life and it has old wallet version 0.8.6.2.5 on it.
What do I need to do to get everything running on the latest wallet?

I have to say I AM SORRY in advance in case this has been asked a million time already, and answered:
I had not opened my wallet in weeks, thought to do it in passing and it just sat there, for hours, not opening. I tried a few times, it wouldn't.
I deleted the various block files and let it download it again, yay, it worked! but then today I came down and the entire system was locked up so I had to reboot, when I tried the wallet again, same crap, though, it gave me an error about failure to load some block file (I forget the exact language), so I deleted the shit again and am now waiting for another days worth of the wallet downloadingthe entire chain.
Is there any way to avoid this shit???

You do realize that to be able to continue to mine this coin, it needs to be able to at least pay for the cost of mining, don't you?
I sure as hell am in no position to just buy gear and run electricity to it just to be able to gloat about holding a bunch of them.
I don't think I understand what your point is about mining them if there is to be no profit. They are useless if they are not worth something. Some disjointed ideal they hold for you does not equal actual value.
How or why you can say the coin does not need to be fixed is baffling me. A week+ time to even find a block is not going to work.
You will lose all the miners other than yourself and what is the point then? You can try to keep the chain alive but it will serve zero purpose.
So how about we let someone fix the damned thing and stop turning everyone away from it?
Just a simple fix to adjust the damned block time to something more realistic, that is all I ask for. We get that and I will stick with this coin, invest my dollars into gear and point it right here, alongside you, with no more complaints.

Dev bailed on us after discovering he goofed the code and couldn't fix it. There has been some talk of a takeover in the thread, but we can't seem to get it together.

" it's not for the intention of "hiding" or "avoiding" it, it's because people generally don't believe my accomplishments because they're "out of the ordinary", so to speak. So I normally don't talk about them.
For efficiency's sake it will come later, not now.
There's nothing wrong with waiting until everyone has all the information they're looking for. Some people would want to wait.. it's understandable.

You can say whatever about how many Karma have already been invested but that does not change the fact that your seemingly evasive attitude has turned some big money people away. These big money people are the ones you need, like it or not.

You need to stop and realize that YOU have made yourself the face of this coin.
The focus now, while there is bonus for investing, is not on the coin, it is on those that are asking for the investment.

Sure. But if you don't mind, I'd like to wait until after this busy period. Much to do.
Briefly, I studied art, worked at the largest public relations firm of its kind (youngest exec in its history), was a consultant for Proctor & Gamble, Unilever, a Big 6 accounting firm, the largest ad company in the world at the time, and some other big names. Was also the project manager for a very large municipal IT project (more than 100,000 students), all before I turned 25. After that, I started a tech company in Asia.
In between that time I discovered a new mathematical maxim, taught ESL and philosophy (volunteer), invented a language, patented a couple of tech-related things, wrote a couple of books (poetry and philosophy), and a variety of other stuff.
Generally-speaking, I don't discuss my background that much. (That's not even the unbelievable stuff.) I prefer to think not only about ideas and their evolution but, more importantly, their execution.
But rather than focus on me, let's discover how to drive revenue for Karmashares, thus increasing the value of Karmacoin

Not that I am the one to fix things, I am just as lost as many others when it comes to fixing this. (though I too am trying to learn.)
This sucks donkey penor. I am very fond of this coin, though not as fond as itsunderstood seems to be, and I really had high hopes.
Even with the mistake made by the dev, the coin was worth fixing then, I wish he had not bailed.

BEN is dead. I love it, but the FUD spread by itsunderstood member, killed all the discussion how to fix the problem. Doesn't matter how it will be fixed, even copy&past of other cool coin sourcecode + using old chain will help ben more, than few days confirmation time. Like DMD did, they turned to POS and got 10x value. Do it with ben, and it will skyrocket. And first thing to do, is to remove all posts from itsunderstood, he is sick and his posts completly destroyed trust in this coin.

For those that pay attention to the crap I say, you know I am a grumpy negative bastard about this coin and the various activities around it.
I have been very critical of the coin, the dev and the new team from the very start, now, I have to say this to the others that are pooping on this coin and Karmashares:
Kosmost is not trying to scam anyone, Karmashares is not a way to screw everyone out of their coins, no one has some grand design to defraud anyone.
There is a back story with Karmagood and his disagreement with the current efforts but it doesn't matter, he is upset, that is about as far as that goes. He can be upset, let him be upset. (no one needs to call him names about it though, so cut that shit out, yeah?)
I have had questions about the events surrounding the start of Karmashares, the break from Karmagood etc, I have not gotten the straightest answers, but I have gotten enough to know that the new team is not fucking around, they are serious about KArmashares, they have every hope and intention that it will become somethign great and I say we help them do it.
Even if I am wrong, who cares? You toss a few million coins that did not cost you much to get (even if you bought when they were going for 6-12 Satoshi), if you lose em, not a major lose. If that is too much for you to lose, do not toss any in the pot. It is really that simple. (I still say no one should grief anyone else if they think 10 mil Karma is too much, value is subjective.)
I hold no ill will towards Karmagood, he was always straight with me, but, I was never part of the team.
So here's the short version:
Invest in Karmashares if you can afford to lose the coins, you are likely to be very happy you did. Stop making baseless allegations and above all else, let's help Kosmost and gang go forward and at least try to make something AMAZING out of what was once total shit.
ps. I will still be a cranky fucker about this coin and will continue to point out bullshit when I see it, but I am still invested in Shares, and intend to stay that way for the long haul.
Now, go do something good.
