Re: Will Bitcoin become centralized sometime in the future?
by

When you look at the statistics, many cryptocurrencies are owned in majority by few entities, Bitcoin is no exception to this. A new report out recently by Finance Magnates actually highlights that overall, less than 1% of Bitcoin investors actually have the capacity to control over 35% of the network, therefore one could argue that Bitcoin really isn’t so decentralized after all.

Simple - ask yourself this one question: "If I had this money in cash, knowing what I know now, would I buy this coin over any other coin I could put my money on? " When you think about it, that is what you are choosing to do every day that you don't sell. If the answer is yes - well then you know what to do. But if the answer is no? Then why are you still in?

Re: why do governments don't make BTC illegal worldwide ?
by

on 19/06/2018, 04:15:02 UTC
If governments could effectively stop a peer to peer network, they would’ve shut down the illegal practices of torrent websites over a decade ago. Trying to ban bitcoin or regulate it in a manner that allows actual oversight would be much the same. It’s impossible on a technical level.

Even tracking individual people who own specific wallets is difficult. While the public blockchain might allow governments or law enforcement to track down certain bitcoins, tying them to a real-world person is very difficult. An owner can hide his or her identity with a VPN, Tor, or even physically move a wallet into cold storage (offline) form, making it invisible to the world.

Technically, the ball is well within the bears' court, which has been the case since the supporting ascending trend line, breached on 22nd May. Bears are eyeing a retest of June 13th lows at $35.86, a break could be catastrophic, selling the price move potentially as low as the mid $20 region.

Re: Country backed coins, a good idea?

Soon, many countries will have their own digital currencies. That’s partly because they’re all trying to do away with paper money—a very unfortunate trend. Cash gives you a lot of privacy and flexibility. Governments hate it because it facilitates tax evasion. They’d rather everyone use digital currency, where there’s zero privacy, and they have instant access to everything you own.

Re: Exchange or Wallet?

Should you hold your coins in a web-based wallet provided by an exchange, or your own  wallet? There’s no right answer for everyone, but it’s important to understand the trade-offs if you hold coins. Beacuse When you rely on an exchange, you have a more convenient experience. You don’t have to worry about securing, backing up, or otherwise managing your own wallet. The exchange’s website will be more secure than many people’s computers. However You’re placing a lot of trust in the exchange if you store your coins there. For example, you could lose your Bitcoin if the exchange were hacked, a rogue employee stole your private keys, or if the owners of the exchange took the money and ran.

Re: Crypto currency in five years!

Tim Draper bought 30 thousand BTC worth $20 million from a government auction in 2014. Today this amount is approximately $200 million. Making $200 million on just one bet might tend to make anyone bullish on Bitcoin, Ethereum and almost any other cryptocurrencies. But no one knows how things will turn out for crypto in 5 years.

Ethereum allows any company to use their open source code to build upon the Ethereum blockchain. This allows people to have an easy-to-use and programmable blockchain that can be customized for their needs. Companies are created with fascinating ideas that utilize the toolbox that Ethereum provides. These applications address many issues and weaknesses that we have in our systems today, but likely most of the revolutionary ideas have not even been created yet.

LTC can hit $200–300 if BTC hits $20k. Simply because LTC positions itself as silver to bitcoin gold and rise almost proportionally. While new Litecoin ATMs are installed and a growing number of companies are showing interest in Litecoin, their future looks better.

Had it not been for cryptocurrencies, we may have never seen the ongoing blockchain involvement throughout the institutions, as it was what sparked everyone’s interest, and also as it created the wealth enabling the ongoing innovations in the industry since its beginning, even before traditional investors came in.

There is a common misunderstanding between a “coin” and the private key to access your coin. Understand the difference and you will understand the potential danger of exchanges.

Re: Help me understand the cryptocurrency market

Cryptocurrencies are decentralized digital currencies that draw value from security, anonymity, and authentication measures that fluctuate much like stocks that can be traded and exchanged for "true value" currencies. While it may still sound hard to understand, a little bit of research into crypto is key to making better profits.

Re: All my money in 1 altcoin - Too risky?
by

It is not recommended putting all your money in 1 altcoin. Diversify is always better as you spread out the chances of losses. As the market always looks for the sign that a currency is bound to drop or fail, they would try to move as much currency out of there as they can into other currencies. Should you diversify there are better chances that your portfolio could rebalance itself.

Two major events along with many other projects yet to begin, Ripple’s future seems veritably bright. Despite the fact that the entire crypto-market acts like a giant bubble sometimes, Ripple is likely to satisfy its users in future as well. The Cobalt algorithm implementation and Hyperledger partnership would only turn this reliable cryptocurrency even more reliable.

Altcoins are not going to go away. It’ll continue to be a weird investment for a while where you wait for it to drop down, purchase a few grand in it, wait for everyone to believe that this is the year of the Cryptocurrency.

Build your cryptocurrency portfolio using a risk-reward formula. You’ll have to decide how much risk you want to take on and that should influence which coins you invest in. Diverysify into multiple different coins and split your cryptocurrency portfolio into several tiers of investment. Keep atleast 50% of your portfolio in safe-ish coins like Bitcoin, ETH and Monero etc..

Re: Why is crypto making the world go crazy?
by

As humans, we’re easily tempted to conform to what everyone around us seems to be doing. Wide media coverage can heighten the sense that we’re missing out on something that everyone else is doing, and the more we hear about something like cryptocurrency, the less risky it seems to us. Simply because it’s more familiar, people are more willing to get involved.

Re: Do you believe John McAfee is right about Bitcoin hitting $500,000 in 3 years?

When BTC captures an industry, it doesn't really matter what it is, when it dominates any industry as THE way to trade, value will skyrocket. That skyrocket will self-perpetuate another cycle of boom and bust, but the settling point will be far higher than today's prices. When we go from 1% of people owning bitcoin to 5% it will be a major move in price, easily to $100k and beyond.

When you think about the volume of money that moves around, and BTC is going to have to account for a substantial portion of that flow, $500k is not at all unrealistic and it will be here before we know it.
