7970 giga,sapphire,powercolor,his,asus..all of them can run with I13..and with edited bios Smiley)

How did you edit it? I couldn't figure out how to improve mining speeds on my giga cards.
Using the tpu editor right? WHat values?
Which bios version do you have

I don't have it anymore but it was a rev 1.0 unlocked Gigabyte Windforce OC 7970...and before I had a HIS IceQ X2 7950 without boost.
Tried many bios flashes and it never got better.
Never tried 8191 for tc, always used 8192 or higher xD, and got hw or lower perf when doing more than i 13 (despite the high tc and available system ram ->8gb ddr3)

If you use -g 2 (gpu-threads 2) then anything over intensity of 13 will HW error. If you want to use higher intensities of 18-20 use 1 gpu thread and a high thread concurrency.

An R9 280X has been added to the hardware comparison page. With OpenGL, it's either as good as the original 7970s or better. At this point, it seems to be way better than the 7970s. It looks like whatever they changed has fixed the original 7970 issues.

https://litecoin.info/Mining_hardware_comparison

I get 750 kh/s with my Sapphire 7970s (w/ default firmware, 1080 engine, 1500 mem, I 13)

They're getting 740 kh/s on the 280x at 1100/1500. Obviously the same chip...so I wouldn't expect much different I suppose...but still a bit disappointing.

The driver is in beta still, so you can say it's a fail yet. HD 7970 is a mature product and the R9 280X is still in it infancy. The price is the same as any other HD 7970 and will eventually drop over time.

The driver is not in beta, the driver released for review testing and BF4 is a beta. The R9 280x IS a 7970, they are XT2 boards and have nothing other than a flashed bios and a different cooler. To think you will see any increased performance over a 7970 is crap and there is nothing at all infant about the R9 280x.

ALL 7970s (R9 280x) can push over 720Kh/s - The main difference between cards ignoring gpu/mem clocks is the configuration of 3 key miner settings:

--gpu-threads
--thread-concurrency
--Intensity

Some 7970's especially older ones do best on a single gpu thread with a high thread-concurrency and intensity. eg, "--gpu-threads 1 --thread-concurrency 24000 --intensity 19"

A lot of newer boards (GHz editions) including the rebranded R9 280x do best with two gpu threads and a lower thread-concurrency and intensity eg, "--gpu-threads 2 --thread-concurrency 8192 --intensity 13" (have also found an odd thread concurrency such as 8191 give even better results)

I have personally tested this on several 7970 boards and even 7950s are affected the same way. No BIOS flashing or modding has ever been needed just a correct miner configuration and the right gpu/mem clock ratio which I have found to be very different on some cards simply because of the type of ram used and the different timings some memory chips run at which is why some users get lucky with low mem frequencies and others simply do not.

Bear in mind also that the R9 280 (non x variant) if and when its released will be a re-branded 7950 so could turn out to be a very good bang for buck card. Avoid the R9 270x as this is just a re-branded 7870, again the non x variant will be a rebrand of the 7850.

Do enjoy your AMD re-branded kit while we wait to see if the real news here the R9 290x will be a mining king.  Wink

I have been trying to sync with the network and download the block chain for almost 24 hours with no progress.

Are there any additional nodes that can be added besides the one in the OP?

could try...

31.28.237.210
92.24.174.109

playing tricks on people to rip their money off is just fraud nothing else ... illusion fake-orders to control prices is just that ...

my gains where made honestly not by tricking someone into a bad trade ... one or few person gain here and a lot of people loose ... the average Joe is going to be ripped apart ...

You can't trick someone into a bad trade, no one is forcing you to hit buy or sell. If you make an error of judgment when reviewing the information at your disposal then it's on your own fault.

I can say with some certainty that this is how even regulated markets behave, I have worked on a number of trading floors. Its not illegal for an individual to place a large buy or sell order and remove them because they have changed their mind.

So when do you think the best time would be for Cryptsy to add this coin?

Right now it is probably more easier to mine EXC rather than buy them but once that reward drop gets closer, more users might have to move to buying coins.

So should Cryptsy add EXC before the reward drop or after?

I'd say it needs to go on sooner rather than later, we don't want to increase public awareness with a listing on Cryptsy only for those people to see that a few select miners have mined the coin and they themselves can no longer mine it.

The listing would spread awareness and get more miners on board to distribute the available coins more fairly before the rewards run down.

Same here and i've added that node and it remained at 0 connections. However after downloading  your blockchain I got connections.

Oh yes, we did have a problem with one of the early blocks on release day, glad to see that you read back through the threads for a fix.

If this issue persists I would suggest putting the blockchain on the OP and website Download page to inform people. I doubt many new users would spend much time trying to figure out why it cant connect, would just be seen as broken and they would move on to something else.

It did not work for me until I downloaded your blockchain either.

Whoop, looks like we are back on track with this update.

Diff is down, pools are up to date and we have a decent number of miners on both!

On top of that the new website looks pretty slick and the coins value is starting to recover on the exchanges.

Nice work CaptChadd!  Grin

Some miners are putting a combined 9+ Mh/s on the netcoin pool and dont seem to understand that their work is futile, is there any way to contact the pool owner?

I have tired everything i can to mine on coinex and no luck with port 80, gutted to be missing out on this   Sad

Update:

Right so cant mine with stratum on coinex? I can connect with LP just fine... anyone got any ideas?

block ahoy!  Smiley

Looks like coinex.pw is on the new chain but netcoin.pl is not.

I am unable to mine on coinex due to port 80 restrictions on my connection, also noted that coinex has no auto pay out feature. Considering all that has happened before with this coin it makes me pretty nervous to mine there anyway.

If CoinEX wants to switch ports and offer auto pay out i'll be happy to mine there. Otherwise I will wait for netcoin.pl to update.

Thanks for the update!

Running the new version and all seems OK but have noticed the new client icon while showing on the QT executable is not appearing in the system tray, task bar or client they still appear to be the old ones, I've cleared icon caches etc to be sure.

The version number in the about section is also still 1.1

Further update the client wont connect to the network. stuck trying to catch up 16 blocks.

I am going to sort out adding some code, so if it takes too long to find a block it auto adjusts the difficulty, I think.

Hey how's the client update coming along? I saw the new logos on the other forum (https://cryptocointalk.com/topic/1165-new-icon-and-banner-bounty-image-1000-exc/), they look pretty good. Are you going to incorporate them?

Also was thinking it might be good to put an update on http://extremecoin.org/ explaining whats happened with the hash rate / diff and your plans to resolve.

Keep up the good work!  Smiley

Its takle a while for the activity to go up, so I will be on 420 for a while.

As for this coin, you either support it or you don't.

This is not about supporting a pool, it is about supporting a coin, that is the main thing here.

Who in this thread is going to continue to support Extremecoin and who, tell me now, is not going to just because one pool owner acts like a self righteous dick?

I have done every that I can to make this coin fair but it seems even that is not good enough.

The point being made is that due to the actions of one pool owner it has cost you support because it cost people a lot of their early and in some cases only investment in the coin. While you too were caught out by this unfairly you also have to accept that this pool was the primary pool linked by you on your coins home page.

For one reason or another existing supporters now might not have the resources to support this coin any more, a lot of slower miners got burnt and cant re-establish themselves with this coin. Also once bitten, twice shy etc...

This is not any kind of attack on you or the coin and not intended as an attack on your ability to make the coin fair. It is just an assessment of the situation we now find ourselves in. I expect support will return in time but right now it's at a low.

I had 1000 EXT auto-payout on cryptc.me pool, but some EXC on pool left for sure, which is not bothering me a lot, the biggest issue is that this situation obviously destroying the EXC trading and pulling it's price down on exchanges.

Sadly I have also noticed this, since the 'incident' the coin is less traded, less trusted and we have lost some key voices who were promoting this coin and now no longer have the will to do so because all of their coins were stolen.

I have spoken with a few people who have lost interest due to this and lets just say 58230 EXC does not sound like a high enough number. Their main concern is the fact these funds are not trapped in a wallet but just waiting to be dumped by their new owner once this all dies down. I expect it has also damaged our chances of being listed on additional exchanges at least in the short term.

Finally we have an attitude that other developers don't. We are geniune and passionate about what we do and reflect that in our dealings with our miners, pool operators and supporters.

While I respect your dedication and commitment to this coin, with the statement above I think you are doing a big disservice to the many dedicated developers out there who are working hard to make coins for everyone and to support the community.
