You should use whichever kernel gets you the best speed. Though, in 3-6 months, I don't think its going to matter.

Why won't it?

Anyway, solution to avast! network shield blocking EMC - ditch avast, get Microsoft Security Essentials. Works beautifully.

Avast keeps blocking connections to EMC by CGminer. Any suggestions on how to avoid that?

Avast fail: it report cgminer as a virus. And i don't find a way to tell it to ignore it. Avast double fail.

Question: what efficiency should I expect (generally)? I'm mining on a Radeon 5750. I'm getting ~27% efficiency (ATM 1820 queued, 500 accepted, and U (whatever it is) is @1.89/m). Is there any way I could improve on my situation?

As for the memory clock, they're probably dropping it in CGminer or so. Mine is also running at 150MHz, keeps the GPU quite a bit cooler for some reason.

Regarding the voltage settings in windows - they definitely stay what they were set even after a reboot. I've manually set the voltage to 1.1V (nothing about the voltage in the .bat launch file), the PC froze and I had to reboot. After the reboot the voltage is still at 1.1V. I think this is worth looking into, because I've no clue what my default voltage is supposed to be, or whether it would return to normal lower voltage when it's idle.

If you successfully close cgminer properly it *should* return to the default values on shutdown. That said, the windows version has this knack of not closing properly. How/why, remains a mystery. Nonetheless the settings will go back to default on a reboot. None of the settings cgminer uses tell the card to keep settings across a reboot.

Thanks. Upon selling and removing my second graphics card I'll reinstall the drivers and will see whether this changes anything and then report back to you.

Agreed, you should just enable it and make sure it is stated clearly (and the same message should include explanation how to disable it, e.g. "to disable add -donation 0" flag), especially since the buggy donations are fixed.

It's not like a) people aren't given a choice or instructions how to disable it, and b) everyone who uses knows so much as to enable the donations.

I like the phrase "I believe in the exploitation of the stupid", so if users aren't clever enough to disable donations - well, thanks for their support Smiley

On a side note, a question - if I set a GPU voltage in CGminer, then restart the PC and start cgminer without the flag, does the voltage go back to default or stay at the previously set voltage? Because the BIOS says (with Radeon BIOS Editor) GPU voltage at load should be 1.1V, but cgminer and FurMark read it as 1V. That will hinder my overclocking results in the future.

/nope. Tongue not touching linux.

Anyways it felt like forever, but I was able to revert to 2.5 SDK. Bitcoin offer is no longer valid. If you're using windows, simply replace these files with those of 2.5 SDK and you should have your faster mhash back

C:\Windows\System32\amdocl64.dll
C:\Windows\System32\amdoclcl64.dll
C:\Windows\System32\OpenCL.dll
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\amdocl.dll
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\amdoclcl.dll
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\OpenCL.dll

I also uploaded a rar file with these dlls if anyone needs them to revert. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9768004/AMD-APP-SDK-v2.5.rar
just extract it to the drive you have your OS installed on and it'll extract each file to the correct path.
edit: forgot link.

This is awesome. Thanks for this. Hashing rate increased from ~120 to ~140 (cgminer 2.1.2, dynamic intensity, Radeon 5750, stock clocks, memory 150MHz). Small donation sent  Cheesy

Hi.

Is there any way to send minimized cgminer msdos window, to SYSTEM TRAY??'

I have windows vista, i tried softwware like tray it! and it does not work

Thanks

I have Vista and TrayIt! indeed does work. You need to run cgminer, and while it is running, open TrayIt! Select to place cgminer to system tray, and put TrayIt to your startup folder. Should work.

If that's anywhere close to -f settings in GUIminer, -f 60 lets me watch GPU-accelerated HD videos without a problem. Even -f 55 is ok.

For that, try adding an exception to Symantec (the whole cgminer folder).

If you don't want to see the window, get TrayIt!. It will minimize the window to system tray.

I don't think you're able to run cgminer as a service, though.

Nice. Too bad AMD hasn't contacted me about me supporting their GCN platform yet on DiabloMiner.

Seriously, AMD, send me a 7970, I will love you all night long. Wink wink.

Send them a message in some way: it may be twitter, e-mailing their PR department or something like that.

Just tell them that if they want to advertise mining as a selling point, they should have software that is made for that architecture, and since you've already made software for the previous architecture (show them the links and everything), you're just the guy to do it. It's not that they won't find a spare 7970 lying around.

It couldn't be that PP thingy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ATI_PowerPlay) that changes card clocks and all whenever it feels like it?

No, at mining load it's constantly at full frequencies (only at idle drops down completely and at something like 10% load it sits in between).

That's the spirit  Roll Eyes

That made me giggle Cheesy

Well, my point is, it doesn't have a reason - one restart it's faster, the other - slower, doesn't seem to have any pattern at all, since I've had the same behaviour through different driver and miner versions. Otherwise there were no software or hardware changes.

On the topic of my fluctuating hash rate, downgrading to 11.6+2.4 didn't help - again dropped to 60 Mhash from 80. I'll just stop trying.
