Gridcoin [GRC].

Gridcoin combines the energy-efficiency of Proof of Stake with scientific "Proof of Work" aka Proof of BOINC to Proof of Research.
With the energy-efficiency of Blackcoin you can generate interest. While you are (optionally) donating your computation power to different BOINC projects (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berkeley_Open_Infrastructure_for_Network_Computing) like cancer or malaria research, you generate additional coins.

The coin exists for more than 2 years now, there has been no premining. It is ASIC resistant because every whitelisted BOINC project has own algorithms and work on the projects is individually compensated. Some of the projects can utilize your CPU, some also the GPU and there is one for ASIC.

We are growing - fast! Smiley

800 researchers and more
1 GRC ~= 1 US cent
banx.io added GRC to their exchange - thanks

We got it, transition went smooth. Research Age has begun (I like the ambivalence of that sentence)

With Research Age we now have
  • 6 months lookback period instead of 14 days
  • a maximum magnitude cap of 20000 (now its ~850 to get the maximum payment)
  • Maximum research subsidy in one block will be 13500 instead of 75 right now

That means we can now support/pay 180000 researchers in theory because one staked block in 6 months will be enough to be paid out completely. And as we have 1000 blocks a day over 180 days we can support 180000 researchers/miners which means "unlimited" scalability. The past system could support ~800 or less. Again, everyone is researching on his own, there are no pools necessary to get fully paid!

If we ever reach 100k researchers I believe we will find a solution. The easiest one would be pools, but that means centralization so we would like to avoid that.

To start Gridcoin mining, in theory 1 GRC is enough. The more you have, the FASTER you will stake your first block. The amount of GRC staking/being in your walllet has no effect on the amount of mined GRC by research.

@ Amazing: What you can do is encrypt your walllet and unlock it for staking only. Then it can't send more beacons. Usually it should stop sending beacons once you are in the superblock.
It is normal that the GRC Adress field is not populated in the execute beaconreport until your first reward AFAIK.

Whats your CPID? I am curious whether we have an issue here or whether you just need patience Smiley I suppose its the latter. Be patient the first GRC will come in soon! Also: Don't expect payments every day if your balance is quite low as well as your magnitude. But remember, we have a lookback period so if you stake one block in 6 months you will be fully paid for all research done within the last 6 months. Smiley

How long does the magnitude take to update after I deposit balance to my wallet? is it 24 hours?  Huh

I have 2000 GRC in my wallet and saw two Beacons going out for 0.0011 but my magnitude is still showing 0.00

Depending on the projects you participate its possible that your magnitude will stay very low. Whats your CPID and which projects are you researching for?
Well within 24 hours you should definetely be included in the superblock.

My magnitude right now is 46 how long before I receive the first payment?

That is okay, the first payment might take a while, depennding on your balance. A balance of 1 Million GRC will take 16 hours to become mature from the time of being transfered to your wallt plus ~1 minute to stake, a balance of 1 GRC will take 16 hours to become mature plus ~weeks to stake. The rest is somwhere in between.

Watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jX78dSvg8kg (~500 GRC, 3 days)

Hello from 'IndiaMikeZulu.'

Guys, we are an active group of Australia krypto geeks. At present, our Bitcoin exchanges are under flat-out attack from the banks. And electricity is expensive here.

And Gridcoin keeps getting mentioned as a candidate for cpu mining. (Your community members on Reddit Doge cryptocurrency do a good job.)

So we're interested to ask some questions. That is, Australia might become a enthusiastic outpost of Gridcoiners. Will pop in tomorrow.

Mark

If you really think about it, there is really no way to even begin to comprehend the scientific implications if Gridcoin really does take off and millions of Boinc participants and commercial mining entities come into the picture. Simulations that may have previously taken several months or even years with current distributed computational power may end up being completed in days/hours. The time savings alone for scientists would be incalculable. IT BOGGLES THE MIND!!!

Gridcoin is getting to be really exciting actually Smiley such a good coin! Should take over Litecoin! Personally I'm rather attached to bitcoin but I dont know why it couldn't be a better than bitcoin? has bitcoin got anything that gridcoin doesn't?

First mover advantage.

But the big thing about gridcoin is that the computations you do solve real world problems, eg. protein folding, simulating a brain,....

Imagine if Gridcoin was as big as Bitcoin, then it would be by far the fastest and biggest supercomputer in the world, run by people all over the world, solving the world's scientific problems!

Is there a list or something that shows the latest problems solved thanks to Boinc?

Many projects keep an own list of discovered prime numbers (https://www.primegrid.com/) or "rendered" asteroids (http://asteroidsathome.net/scientific_results.html) for example.

One discovery made it to science news lately from einstein@home, for example: http://www.space.com/24190-pulsar-gravity-einstein-general-relativity.html

More people know Bitcoin, more services accept Bitcoin.

Nothing that can't be changed.

I said it before (when the price was at 300 satoshis) and I say it again (now its at 1100 satoshis, rising): What are the people, YOU, waiting for? We have a coin with USEFUL algorithms, ASIC proof because there are many different algorithms, with incoin voting and smart contracts. Once we reach Top 5 in terms of coinmarketcap (the price has to rise at factor 10 for that) you can thank me for sounding like a troll Cheesy

what to do with this error?

Thx for your help

I atteched a link because I didn´t understand how to insert an image  Huh

Did you update to the latest version? If not, uninstall. reinstall from the latest msi from gridcoin.us, clean %appdata%/roaming/gridcoinresearch EXCEPT wallet.dat, walletbackups folder and *.conf and restart. Run as administrator! Then you can use the rebuild block chain -> download blocks to sync faster

Gridcoin is a marathon, no sprint. You will not loose any Gridcoin because we have a lookback period of 14 days. So all contributions to BOINC will be remembered in this 14 days timewindow. Its not like Bitcoin or any other POW.

After the next mandatory we will have a 6 MONTHS lookback period btw. One payment will be sufficient in 6 months and you will get fully paid for everything, interest (POS) and research (POR).

Its a pity that people who do not know facts start with calling a technology shitty or bullshit
yea im just gonna back out now this por is bs i have not gotten shit for 2 days and i followed the steps srry guys

Or you say that BOINC should only run when the computer is not in use.

Depends on how you configure it, you can make Boinc use all of you cpu/ram or you can make it use only portions.

Does BOINC affect your pc performance while running?

energy issues are very sensitive. if you believe the early dev?

I am sorry, I probably did not get that commment right. What do you mean, whether I believe Gridcoins dev to solve all energy issues of blockchain technology? Well, I can actually see my computers use the electricity to calculate research work units and I can also see my Gridcoin wallet getting a higher balance every day so yes, I believe we are going into the right direction here!

SO HOW DO I GET IN ON THIS?

You can back us in the kickstarter, so you pledge your money and if we get our target money or more pledged by backers, we will send you your reward for which you paid in ~ late November.
In case you want the complicated way, you can visit the main development forum and find a way to mining Gridcoin yourself: https://cryptocointalk.com/forum/464-gridcoin-grc/

I guess Chinese mining farms won't give a shit about power consumption.  Cheesy
power consumption should become an important element when we mining a coin

Exactly. Thats why I am so interested in seeing Gridcoin rise in the ranks of coinmarketcap. You can see all the other coins out there. The ones with POW are just wasiting energy by hashing hashing hashing, the ones with pure POS are just sustaining themselves, making the preminers rich in case the currency gets attention.

Okay, there are some coins that really made some steps to become a nice currency with exceptional features but imagine a currency where server farms will be build because its WORTH to do so. And those serverfarms are not hashing or scrypting or whatever, they are researching for good! No other currency except Gridcoin can do that on a broad variety of research areas. Cancer, AIDS, Malaria research! Particle physics! Climate prediction or clean energy research!

I fall in love with Gridcoin every day again Cheesy And PiGrid can help anyone to participate easily. Of course, if you got the time and resources, you can also work yourself into Gridcoin and BOINC by yourself!
