Alternative for backlit keyboard?
by
Quickfant
on 17/02/2023, 00:10:15 UTC
I opted to not have a backlit keyboard on my laptop........HUGE mistake. I do a lot of work at night and the $100 I saved not having a keyboard with a back light is not worth the saving. What can I do to try and emulate a backlit keyboard?

I bought some glow in the dark stickers and they work but they rub off too quickly. After 1 week I have already taken 2 keys off so I need a more permanent solution. I will not be replacing it with a new keyboard with backlight though I do not want to risk breaking my new laptop.

If you have ever sent any amount from the wallet you probably have a change address. These are called "internal" addresses which do not show in the trezor interface. The only way you can find this out is by using the pubx id and inputting it into a block explorer. If the amount matches then it is a change address. These are automatically handled by trezor and is normal behavior. You can find the public key in your receive tab. Go onto it and you will need to click "reveal key". The public key is safe to copy and safe to give to people but it does have privacy issues because if you give it to some one they can track your whole transaction history but you are probably not concerned because you already have put 1 address into the explorers.

Re: Who is trying to register Bitcoin trademark?

You answer your own question it is people who are trying to make money by owning the trademark where they can sell goods and gifts to customers legally. I think some of the company names that you have given indicate that there are a couple of companies that were trying to sell merchandise that had "Bitcoin" on it.

Exchanges down 111,033 BTC in the last 30 days. One of the sharpest drops of exchange inventories in Bitcoin's history.

The problem with lottery winners is that they are bad with money in general. That's why they play the fucking lottery in the first place. An argument could be made that state-sponsored lotteries are a way to keep the poor poor.
Poor mans tax lotteries are.

Bots are good if you are emotional when you invest and it takes that out of it but they are good for trading 24/7 which you would not be able to do otherwise. There are different types of strategies with bots and you still need to understand the bot and the strategies to be successful.

Re: What motivates you to start investing in cryptocurrency?

on 09/08/2021, 07:53:36 UTC
When I was in college, I heard about Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. My roommate uses part of his savings to invest in the crypto market. I didn't understand at the time. I am worried that he will be deceived. As a result, he originally invested 700 US dollars, but it became 5000 US dollars. I was a little attracted.
Did your friend withdraw them at 5000 dollars or did he keep it in Bitcoin? I am interesting whether your friend is a trader looking to invest in Bitcoin to eventually take it back out again into fiat or if he thinks that Bitcoin is worthy of becoming a mainstream currency.

Re: [Proposal] Badges. Badges everywhere
by
Quickfant
on 19/12/2018, 22:07:00 UTC
I see no concrete reason why there should be badges made for posting milestone or merits received.
There is enough motive to seek to gain merits, and I don't see why we should enocurage people to post to get badges

Reporter badges would be to encourage members to use the 'report' button and also to reward those who already use it

Reporter statistics are not public, unlike post count and merits which can be viewed in the profile and determines the members rank and ability to wear, avatars and signatures.
Enough motive? You mean the means of ranking up? Sure but we are talking about "earned" merit. Not the merit people started with because they had already been here. Besides ranking up above Legendary then there isn't too much of a merit unless you mean just having a visual merit display. But its been proven time and time again that images work better. Its why a lot of advertisements use elaborate images to gain the attention. A nice design of a badge for 500 and 1000 merit "earned" would be a good thing in my opinion.

I don't have any interest in a stupid little trollbox thing, though maybe it'd be cool to run and slightly integrate an end-to-end-encrypted real-time-chat server. Has anyone looked into Matrix?

I don't see the need of it honestly. If people want to talk among themselves then they can just use private messages. If they want it encrypted then they can encrypt it themselves with PGP. I don't want this site to become one of these forums with flashy texts and stupid chatboxes which only hinder the information on the site and causes drama among users.

Chatboxes are a breeding ground for immaturity and drama because of the lack of thinking time people have. On this forum it normally takes people to discuss things a long time due to other things on the forum but I guarantee a chatbox would just lead to arguments. Especially because we have the trust system and everyone would be calling each other scammers it would literally be hell for the real users of the forum. I don't want this forum to become a playground.

Matrix is an interesting project and a unique take on chatting. I like that they aren't looking to make an exclusive app and are looking to make it as accessible as possible for everyone. I followed XMPP before as they had similar objectives but I just felt that they fall short. Seems that Matrix acknowledges this and is willing to take XMPPs shortcomings and improve on them.

Re: Quantum Computing and Bitcoin

The faster the computer the more BTC that can be mined https://youtu.be/loLirgyrzNY

Although that is true. The difficulty would also increase to prevent any issues with quantum computing. The real issue with quantum computers is breaking the current algorithm and not the mining aspect.

A problem with the mining aspect is that quantum computers could push up the difficulty and render the network difficult for those who can't afford quantum computers.

Bitcointalk accounts? I think its obvious that everyone dislikes the practice of selling bitcointalk accounts. But I think banning the practice wouldn't stop it at all. Search it up on Google and you will see that they are being sold everywhere and not just on this forum.

Bet365 accounts? Yes. Its fraud because to register an account there you have to provide addresses and I think documents such as identity to be able to place bets. Though I could be wrong on that last bit.

Looking at those generic posts in the altcoin discussion sub forum I would place a bet on it either being for low quality content or plagiarized posts.

.I agree any exchange in the future would have to be separate from the marketplace. Nobody's coins will be kept on the website. We only have payment gateways at the moment.I was thinking maybe setting up a small manual exchange at first. It could be on the site but nobody tokens/money our store on the site so it will be secure. When we have our token,  perfect money and Webmoney integrated payment systems set up people be able to send one of them and request something else. Like, pay in WebMoney get AFCT tokens and vice versa   - fees of course. The only thing it would have to be manually done so people could be waiting maybe a few hours to receive their funds our tokens. Not the most convenient but it is the safest option for now.

The marketplace I suppose we could add in an additional log in security features in the future such as 2 factor. Really no need now due.Since even if someone hacks your account they don't have excess to your crypto wallet webmoney details etc so it be good as useless to them. Anyway, a Great question I hope I explained it right. If I have time, later on, I set something up on the site to give you a better idea of what I am talking about.
I don't think the waiting time for a little manual work is a big deal. I think its good to have some manual work within the process to prevent any problems but to also add that personal touch. A company putting in the effort of manual work shows that their care about their consumers which I think goes a long way in the projects image.

I would definitely recommend getting the project reevaluated on the review sites as I think it will get a much higher score than it is right now.

Yeah, I don't think this would be a good idea and would lead to a lot of hysterical crying and possibly malicious abuse. Most scammers can't join signature campaigns anyway, but on the flip side there are campaigns that will accept them, but I don't think negative feedback should wholly disqualify you from campaigns (but this should be decided on a case by case basis).
That's a very good point about negatives should be considered on a case by case basis. I think a lot of the managers put that in so they don't have to research each individual case though. Another sigh that these people who are running these spam campaigns are lazy.

A solution could be to disable signatures for anybody at -4 red trust DT2.
This would undoubtedly lead to abuse where several members on the DT2 aren't really considered trustworthy themselves and have a few negatives from people on DT2. Anyway aren't most signature campaigns disallowing people with red trust from joining? So it should not be a problem.

When does the "All" button show up?
by

Certain threads display a "all" button which shows you all of the replies on one page. This is inconsistent and doesn't always show up. I'm wondering if I can view threads on one page by adding a code to the url? Also would I be able to do the same for a users post history?

Target 1 would be 8,600-8,800$ if BTC breaks that we are off to the 9,000$ level again.

Everytime it breaks $9000 somebody on reddit creates a topic and says "this is the last time we see btc under $9k" and then few days later we go under $9k again.

I think they are dumping on us and like many told before they'll keep dumping it till we hit below $5k. They probably have enough bitcoins to give us 2-3 painful years before the next big boom.

It is mt. gox damn it....from what I figure they have to dump $240 million in usd of BTC a month, to get the liguidation done by the end of this year....*them

trustees want their cut and the Japanese Gov't wants this all over with)

thus, we will go to 9k and drop to 7k and rinse wash repeat for a month or two...then the mt. gox trustees will have a timeline, say end of the year and we will

drop to 4k ...it is gonna suck!

Suck? If your an investor for the long term of Bitcoin you are probably relishing your forecast here. A few months of ping ponging back and forth will satisfy some of the day traders and a big drop towards the end of the year will satisfy those who want to invest more long term.

Here's to hoping that your forecast comes true!

This tweet from Charlie Lee has surprised me:

https://twitter.com/SatoshiLite/status/997978007875670016

He was millionaire before Bitcoin? Surprising. Anyone knows what he was doing before?

I think he worked at google right?

That would make for it yeah. Also probably he is older than he looks like (in fact in recent pictures he does).

If you read that twitter stream, to this day Charlie doesn't consider Litecoin a scam.

But often we need to reconsider what the definition of a scam truly is.

I mean, to make Litecoin he literally took a snapshot of the Bitcoin source code, changed like 2 easily-found config parameters, and launched it. And he admitted that it took him all of like a long Saturday to change and test it. He put almost zero effort into creating Litecoin. He created an altcoin of Bitcoin with a few clicks of a mouse. What he did, anyone could literally do with enough knowledge of the code.

So what part about that process and goal isn't scammy? Today when people do that with the Bitcoin source, we say that they're doing it for scammy or selfish purposes. But for some reason we give Charlie a pass because he's a nice guy, Bitcoin proponent, and no longer holds any LTC. (Little known fact: he once DID hold a metric shitload of LTC and probably made a million dollars selling some before LTC even hit $0.20c)

Times change. The fact that it was acceptable when Litecoin first came about is probably because there wasn't a metric tonne of altcoins out then. These days you can't watch some porn without an ICO  popping up "TO THE MOON THE NEW COIN THAT SURPASSES BITCOIN AIRDROP NOW"

I don't consider changing a few parameters as if we look at a lot of things these days they are direct copies of something else. Do people cry about the chinese knock offs? No because they can sometimes be of better investment. Litecoin made a lot of people happy at the time.

If you were to do that now though it's already been done a million times by millions of different "developers". That don't even engage with it's consumers and just bask in the price that their "altcoin" fetches.
