Holding bitcoin in anticipation of price rise is OK. It is also good to use some bitcoin so as to increase the adoption.

Bitcoin is still novel. Most people do not hear about it. They will not use it. It will take several decades to be used widely.

When all the banks implement the block chain, they need a common currency to circulate in the block chain. That currency will be bitcoin.

Re: Does the Price of Bitcoin Matter?

The price of bitcoin matters to some extent. When the price is high, the total value of bitcoin is also high. So it is difficult for somebody to manipulate the price easily.

Echoing that point about Chinese volume. Consensus among traders is that a lot of it is "fake" or spam volume. I can't see any way to properly account for it. The exchanges would have to set fees for us to get a clearer picture.

If the Chinese exchanges charge 0.1% fee, the volume will drop dramatically. The robot trading will reduce. Otherwise the exchanges will earn too much money and they cannot balance their books.

If your saving is more than $10,000, I think you should have at least 1 bitcoin. That is just 3% of your savings, but it has greatest potential.

People with computer knowledge understand BTC things better, especially with developed computer skills  Wink

Not necessarily true. I think people with more knowledge of how money works and how the inflation will devalue your savings will undersand BTC better.

Re: If we hold 300...

With the holidays coming, no real/true change to what Bitcoin currently brings to the masses, it is almost certainly going to go down from this point.  Most likely breaking and staying bellow the $300 point.

Unless there is another speculation run up.

Another speculation run up could be caused by the agreement of the block size increment. This issue has hold the bitcoin price down for some time. Even if the block size is increased to 2MB temperately, the price will rise dramatically. The price has been hold down for too long.

the core devs must do something. a 2mb cap is enough to start with. i am also sure the price will rise significantly due to that.

The transactions are slow again. There are quite a few blocks over 900 kB recently. This is delay the adoption of bitcoin.

Re: Bitcoin classified as a currency. No VAT for BTC also in Switzerland.

Bitcoin is made to be a currency so why the hell does the government even have tax on it? It's not some kinds of product. It's money and the countries which abolish VAT for BTC are the ones which are not high right now

If the US and Europe treat bitcoin as a currency, other countries will follow. It is just a matter of time that other countries will adopt the same approach.

The price matters quite lot. When the price is high, the market capitaization is high, the price volatility will be lower. People will tend to hold or use bitcoin more.

People would have to be pretty stupid to do a mtgox 2 seeing as what has happened to MK.  Nobody wants prison.

Most criminals want to commit crimes if they know they will be caught. They only do it in the hope that they will not be caught.

I bought 2 for cold storage @$230, and 1 for my nephew for Christmas.  I figure it'll pay for his college in 10 years since he's only 7.  I also bought us 25LTC to hedge the bet...  Can't hurt, right?  The BTC I spend, I buy as needed at market rate...

It is a very good idea to buy back the bitcoin you spend. You are circulating the bitcoin, making it very  valuable

The $300 barrier will be broken again.
Probably quite soon. $316 now.

The price fluctuation around $30 is not materially important. As long as the price does not go below $200, the up trend is not broken.

Because all governments currently tax own currency through inflation/money printing.  They might eventually want to do the same to bitcoin.  The only question is how and if it will succeed.
Putting tax on their own currency is quite easy but on a digital currency with non-government control? That's quite challenging

It is tax on the earnings, not the currency. If you are paid bitcoin by your employer, your employer will pay some money to the government as tax.

Swings is normal with BTC and frankly with any asset. Direction however is the real qustion.

I think it is time for some price rise after over 1year of going down, down and more down.

With the upcoming halving a 500USD seems te be a fair price for BTC.
600USD would be the best!
With the halving, the price will be $600. With the agreement on block chain size, the price will be over $1000.

Re: Why Satoshi Nakamoto WON'T win a Nobel Prize
by
RKing
on 11/11/2015, 06:54:40 UTC
There has recently been some news that Satoshi Nakamoto is going to be nominated for Noble Economics Prize Grin

He will be nominated for the Nobel Prize, which he is well deserved. I do not know if the Nobel Prize Committee will award the prize to an anonymous person, though. The nominator said he would accept the prize on behalf of Satoshi Nakamoto and send the prize money to Satoshi in bitcoin.
But it will take several years for the benefit of bitcoin to be seen. So Satoshi will not win the prize in the near future.
I think that he will win it now! The banks now love the concept of blockchain! and He has created a whole new economy with many digital currency Grin his contribution to Economy is enormous! I'm really looking forward to seeing Satoshi win this and maybe the father of bitcoin may show himself Grin

Yes. He might win the Nobel Prize for creating the blockchain technology, not for the bitcoin. Blockchain will be used in many parts of economy, including banks, account firms and public records, almost anything with data record.

Some people sell their bitcoin to make some short term profits. There is nothing wrong with that. Bitcoin has risen in very 3 year period.

The price of bitcoin matters. When people see the rise of bitcoin price, they will get interested in it. They will study and learn it. Then they will like it and invest in bitcoin.

Re: This is the moment for arbitrage trading
by
RKing
on 09/11/2015, 20:40:28 UTC
yes but how can you handle arbitrage with the long time needed for a BTC transaction?
This is not the problem, BTC transactions are fast, what's slow as hell is depositing the fiat in different exchanges. If you pay a reasonable fee, your money will be on the exchange in 10 minutes.

If the fee is higher than the arbitrage opportunity, then there is no point doing arbitrage. Time and fee is the most difficult part of this kind of trading strategy.
