Nah, fuck working, I feel the same. You ever just daydream about what you'd do if you won the lottery? I do that shit every day. Me and my girl would move to Amsterdam and live in some glass palace and some other mad shit. Big dreams got me motivated though. It's a nice thought

Re: Why am I so handsome in the mirror but so ugly in a photo?
by

on 02/02/2021, 02:15:45 UTC
I think we should also not forget the importance of movement in how we see ourselves. Smiling is a process. It has a beginning, a middle, and an end. In the mirror, you can see yourself making all the phases of your smile. In a photo, you only see one frame of it, and so the picture is flat and emotionless, even though you're "smiling".

How many pics have we all deleted, because most of us looked ridiculous in the single frame, even though we knew that particular moment was full of hilarity or joy? Meanwhile, the movie of that moment would have shown us all in a glorious light, living our best life.

We are not meant to have our lives captured in single frames, to be printed and placed in a book.

Re: Is it weird to wake up 2 hours before anybody else to have time alone?

me and my dad had a little war with this lmao. He would drive me to school at 8am and wake up at 7am and i'd wake up at 6:30am. Well he wanted up first so he woke up at 6:00am to beat me at first up. So one day I decide there is no way he'll do 5am and this madman started waking up at 4 fucking am, sometimes not even sleeping to be first up. The dude fell a sleep at the wheel a few time so I went back to 6:30am and never test the power of a dad again lmao.

Never warred with my dad over it, but I did used to get up when he did (around 4-5, he worked in construction) so I could spend a bit of time with him because he always came home late and exhausted. He’d make me a glass of warm milk and turn on the TV for me before he left.

Re: What are subtle red flags at a job interview that say "working here would suck"?
by

Jobs where the expectations of the position aren't clear. The person hiring you should be able to give a clear idea of your responsibilities are day to day in a practical way. It shows that the company understands what it wants out of the position.

I've worked a couple positions that had a really hard time figuring out who was supposed to do what that lead to a lot of confusion and both of them had this in the interviews. If the company you're working for can't define what success in that position looks like you won't be able to either.
I was interviewed for a job like this. When I walked into the interview, it was made clear that the job was being offered and was mine if I wanted it, on my credentials alone. It was a library supervisor job at a rare items and fine arts library.

An hour into the interview, despite asking several times, they couldn’t tell me what I would be doing. Slowly, it came out that there were frequent fights in the library I would need to break up, student mental breakdowns I would somehow have to handle as a mental health professional. The kicker was that the library held a lot of fine art, and I would need to stop people from, literally, “stealing the Warhol’s.” They wanted a librarian who I guess was somehow Batman.

I got an email that the position was dissolved 6 months later.

I am a case manager for an aged care organisation. I spend my days monitoring clients aged care packages and assisting them to remain in their homes for as long as it is feasible, then assist them to find a suitable facility, or help them to have a dignified and pain free passing in their home. I liaise with families, health professionals and suppliers to ensure all aspects of care are implemented. I work with nursing and scheduling staff to provide care workers for domestic assistance, personal care, transportation, shopping and social supports. My day consists of dealing with concerns that have arose overnight, then managing care plans and budgets. Occasionally, there might be an urgent issue such as a client suffering a fall or medical episode, or even a care worker finding a client deceased. Its my job to supervise the response. I fucking love my job. It's hard, and there's red tape everywhere but it means I am getting very good at fitting round pegs into square holes.

I started taking some on line courses from udemy. I’m decent with excel but I learned a lot more holy shit! I can do that?! I started learning sign language...I can now do my abc’s. Lol. I ordered a painting kit. And I think I’m going to take an on line genealogy course. My job eliminated my position and I got a nice severance package. So now I’m doing things I didn’t get a chance to do while I was working 50-60 hours a week.

Any company/service that allows you to sign up using the internet with minimal verification but requires you to either produce ID, bills, proof of address, or show up in person to cancel that service.

if i can set it up via the internet i should be able to cancel using the internet too

We were hosting a small party/play date/happy hour kind of thing with other parents of young children in our city neighborhood (think row homes), when our neighbor called all upset. She and her boyfriend were both away - in different places - for the weekend. They had a friend taking care of their cat, and the cat had died. She wanted us to go next door and wrap up the dead cat and put it in the freezer so she could have a necropsy done to find out why it died. My husband went over but their freezer was full, so he called me over to help. Our tiny freezer was also full (and I drew the line at putting the cat in our freezer), so we threw a few things out to make room and texted to let her know. Fifteen minutes later the boyfriend calls all frantic because he had stashed a bunch of hash in one of the boxes my husband threw out and he wanted us to pick it out of the trash a return it to the freezer with the dead cat.

All the while all of this is happening, we have to keep apologizing to our guests for having to keep excusing ourselves to run next door and eventually shared the whole saga as it was unfolding, much to their bemusement. What I didn’t realize is that one of the kids was old enough to understand what was going on and the mom was getting madder and madder that we kept talking about it in front of her kid. I always wanted to be a fly on the wall when that kid returned to daycare that Monday and what she said about her weekend.

As a software engineer, rather than remoting in, I could just dial in and download the 100-200k of source code and work on it at home. Security wasn't a real issue then. (DOS text based software).

A quick 7 day trip to Maui in February a couple years ago with one of my teenage daughters, who happened to be free the same week I had off. Work was grinding me down and I needed a break.

My wife and the rest of the family couldn't go, they were working or in school. The tickets were expensive, $850 each for bare-bones economy narrow rock hard seats, it was a 12 hour flight that was packed to the brim - I was getting bedsores by the time we arrived.

We rented snorkeling gear and a car, and spent every day from dawn to dusk snorkeling, sitting on the beaches and hiking in the mountains; we did the Hana road, the Seven Sacred Pools and the Haleakalā volcano national park at sunset, and took tons of photos. We ate spam musubi for breakfast, poke and somen noodles for lunch and loco moko for supper. Slept like babies with the windows open wide in the cool nighttime breezes.

The best way to blow $5,000 EVER. So much what I needed at that point in my life.

To all newcomers arriving in BTC-world today: don't go all in.

Buy a little bit now, a little bit tomorrow, etc.

You don't want to get burned on your frist day entering the crypto-world (yes, you may not get burned, but a retest of something like 35k is likely, so stay rational and dollar-cost-average).

edit: thanks for the rewards. i think they are my first ones ;-)

Re: What was your worst teacher like?
by

on 29/01/2021, 08:38:37 UTC
This was in the 70s (yes, I'm *that* old) and my 5th grade teacher hated me. And it wasn't a subtle hate but pretty much everyone saw it, including the staff. In the two months I was in her class she sent me to detention three times for things I didn't do, graded each of my tests with an F, claimed I never turned homework in when I did, etc.

She went that one step too far when someone wrote something nasty about me in the school cafeteria, and she called me up in front of the class and berated me for writing it (!) until I broke down in tears and she sent me to the Principal's office for causing a scene. Net result, I was transferred to another teacher's class and...I found this out much later...she was given a warning and told if she did anything like it again they'd fire her...I apparently wasn't the only student she'd done this to.

No idea of what happened to her, but I hope she lived a long miserable life where she didn't have kids to torment.

If I am not wrong you are asking about taking a course related to technical crypto knowledge.

https://www.udemy.com/topic/cryptocurrency/

Udemy offers a wide range of courses related to cryptos and blockchain in general so you can just take the course in the online class and can be better at it.If you want to graduate from university then you need to tell us about your country to find which universities got blockchain couses.

This looks great, thank you for sharing. I think I also need to learn some cryptocurrency knowledge
