I'm still trying to get a single transaction complete with them. 3 separate, and fairly small, purchases over the last couple of weeks have all been met with the "High Risk" response.

And with Cash Into Coins accepting only Wells & BoA, I don't know what else to do, as a US customer.

@ Brighterbits

I'm pretty new, so take this with a grain of salt as it's just what I've gleaned recently and from reading the comments of others.

Coinbase is a gamble that breaks down (as I see it) roughly as follows:

50% chance - you will have no problems making transactions that take 3-5 days (this is the standard ACH time and is DEFINITELY the banks fault, and it's archaic and stupid)
30% chance - you will just have your transactions cancelled before they take any money from your account
*18% chance - they will take your money, hold it for 3-5 days, and then just cancel your transaction and (within a couple of days) return your money, without any profit or loss to you
2% chance - they will take your money, hold it, and then just cancel your transaction at which point your money goes into limbo and you never see it again

**This seems like the most common scheme/problem people have run into - They can theoretically make a boatload off your money by having & holding those coins and if there's an uptick in the market just act as if your transaction never went through.

I have NOT read of anyone having unauthorized withdrawals from their banking institution, so I don't consider that a threat.

Good luck!

Yes exactly.

I thought I was trying to tell my mobile app "This is my wallet, now sync it" but what I really needed to do was tell my mobile app "This is my blockchain account, now sync it".

Re: mining vs. directly investing in cryptocurrency

If you're goal is to have fun and meet a challenge, mining could be great. If your goal is to make any kind of a profit however....

And even IF you believe the price is going to rise (and let's face it, all of us do, why else would we be here?) I don't suggest mining.

Logistically it's way more complicated than it seems at first, and even if you're a top 10th percentile computer geek the cost/reward ratio just can't keep up. I looked at investing in a mining company for $45 and it seemed like at about 6 months I'd get my money back, but the returns drop sharply the second month forward.

So I too, would suggest investing directly. I've only been seriously looking into this for about a week and I can already say even just 'buying, holding, & selling' BTC is plenty time consuming and frustrating.

Good luck whatever decision you make.

What is the best alternative to a US customer for low-level buying and selling of BTC? I know enough to be very wary of Coinbase, but I don't know what better options there are.

Is Blockchain and their recommended partner 'Cash Into Coins' a more reliable system to use?

There's a thousand posts railing Coinbase, and while some of them are created by impatience or misunderstanding on the customer side, I know a lot of them are not.

But I just want see a fraction of that many posts telling me HOW to avoid Coinbase, for which I need to know who is better

Thanks all!

PS _ Ironic that Olaf would comment "let me help" but I bet the originator of this thread has not had his issue resolved.

How does one "learn" "web of trust" - what does that even mean?

Do you have any suggestions for someone new getting into this? As I said if we are to leave the poor performers behind there has to be better options.

Presuming I can trust you (which I am).

Thanks

OK UPDATE - ITS WORKING

Sorry to have overlooked a crucial step. When you log into the Blockchain website they display a QR string next to your wallet. Silly me thinking this was the one to scan, but the steps on the mobile app make it clear to go into your account and click 'Devices' to display the QR string. Once I did that, I got a new QR string and the mobile app recognized it and now it seems my (empty) wallet is showing on the mobile app.

Thanks for the tips & your patience. Hopefully some other newb will find this and not be tripped up like I was.

Moral of the story: When in doubt, read the instructions

Accord01,

I feel for the position you're in, it's beyond shi##y. I would be just as livid and not cutting them any slack, I'd be emailing every single day with the full story of my complaint and your intended actions.

I know that a lot of folks have no problems with Coinbase, and a lot of folks have no problems, until they do, and it's the big one. This cannot be a simple matter of bad algorithms. Once there is a trusted history between an institution and your bank, there should be no reason on the customer side to encounter these problems.

One thing you said confused me. In their email to you it says "since the refund has already been sent out on these original purchases"

So it would seem they're not just saying "No refund for you, sucka" but in fact they think they've refunded you. Admittedly giving you back your money for the purchase is little solace to losing the profits you wouldve made, but at least you're not getting robbed twice.

Now I have a question for you as a relative newb to this space. I set up with Coinbase and submitted a purchase for .005BC last week (very small just to test out "the process") and they just emailed me with one of their "high risk" notices.

Id be happy to kick them to the curb, but need an alternative. I see a LOT of complaints about Coinbase but very few alternatives for US customers.

They pulled the Coinbase app from the iTunes store some time ago.

Any other ideas? I can't believe I'm the only one with this issue - does it need to go in a more visible forum?

Have you used BlockChain & successfully linked your web and mobile wallet? I want to hear from you!

Good suggestion, I didn't think of it because the app does fire up ok.

Unfortunately it's doing the same thing as before. I don't get why.

At this point I'm ready to try another iPhone app that lets me store/manage Bc on my mobile.

BlockChain Mobile Wallet Does Not Pair Up

I created a new walled on Blockchain's website and downloaded their iPhone app on my iPHone 5

On the iPhone app, when I try to pair with the wallet it scans the QR code on my screen and says it's not valid. Another app scans the QR code and shows me what Blockchain calls "My BitCoin Address" which is really just the ID of that wallet.

Anyways I know the QR code is correct but the app doesn't want to accept it. Has anyone else had this issue? My only guess is because the wallet is empty but that didn't really make sense so I'm at a loss.

Thanks for any advice on this.

Also taking suggestions for other good mobile-to-web apps for wallet management.

Cheers

How can one test their system to see what it runs at? I have 3 computers and while mining BitCoin does not seem worthwhile, mining LTC may be.

Any links to sites that explain how to get into mining LTC would be appreciated.
