Re: L3+ Firmware

When I got my L3+ it had VNISH firmware installed with a Dev Fee, is it easy to reflash it with Blissz 1.2 No Fee? Is that even a good idea if it's working fine? I couldn't really find a simple tutorial anywhere and I really don't want to mess anything up.
I haven't used the VNISH firmware but as long as it doesn't lock out updates it's easy.
Go to system, upgrade, at the bottom flash new firmware, choose file then flash image.

Great, that's what I was hoping. I think I'm going to stick with the VNISH for now since it's working well, but it's good to know it's an option. Thanks!

Re: Mining residentially...are electric companies watching?
by

on 16/02/2021, 18:45:49 UTC
I got two text messages from the electric company asking folks to reduce electricity usage in a space of 30 min. yesterday.  I'm a small miner.  10 s9s but that represents about 12K worth of KW/h.  Can they see this?
I shut them down last night just to be a good neighbor.  I wouldn't want the whole street to be shut down because some in the Entergy control room saw me using so much electricity lol.

So, in short, yes your electric company can easily guess from where the energy consumption is coming from. I don't know specifics but whenever you build a house you have to let the main council of the area and the electric distributor know how much do you estimate in order for them to see if the main transformer has enough free capacity to deliver that need. If, in some rare instance, the whole neighborhood gets shutdown I'm sure they'll be looking why/what caused the overload in their systems...

[1] https://www.ovoenergy.com/guides/energy-guides/how-much-electricity-does-a-home-use.html

I've shut them down for the time being after reading the posts here.  The weather is seriously causing problems.  I don't want to be responsible for shutting down our street.  But, those 10 miners are making a profit.  I hate to see them shut down.  Guess I'll wait for the snow to melt haha.

What do you pay for power? At .12/ KWh those babies are pulling in just under 70 cents a day, probably better to err on the side of caution.

I am still holding on to my old S1/S3 units in case you ever finish your upgrade kit idea.

That sounds really interesting!

3) What's the benefit of mining a full node? I've only ever just minined to a pool, I don't really understand that aspect of this.
You do not/should not mine to the node! The node is simply there to support the Bitcoin network by well, having another full node on it for storing/distributing blockchain info.

Be it solo pool or normal pooled, mining requires the pool you are mining at to have the fastest possible connections to the BTC network along with wide distribution of that access to be able to monitor chain activity for block changes and notify the network when you have found a block.

Ok, so it sounds like I'd just be mining as usual and don't really have to worry about the node part of it. Thanks!

I had 3 questions if anyone can help:

1) Does it require a monitor and keyboard to work? I've always just controlled my Pi remotely from my laptop, I don't have either at home.

2) I'm mining with an L3+ undervolted to 660W from a Bitmain APW7 plugged into 110V. There's one pcie connector left over - could I use that to power this in eco mode? (If yes, here's another vote for an option without the PSU)

3) What's the benefit of mining a full node? I've only ever just minined to a pool, I don't really understand that aspect of this.

Thanks everyone Grin

If you're still interested in mining Doge you could use a pool like ProHashing and take your payout in Doge.

Just curious, would it be possible to make a version with a built-in power supply? Seems like that would make it even more user-friendly but obviously I don't know anything about manufacturing consumer electronics.

You have no gateway and no dns specified (fields are empty)

Can you run the IPCONFIG?  and share the ip and gateway so we can double check you settings.

Then copy the gateway from ipconfig to l3+.
Set dns to 8.8.8.8

Also share the netmask...you show 255.255.255.0. but i wonder if this should be 255.255.0.0 based on your ip....ipconfig from a machine on the network will answer this...just copy what ipconfig shows to the miners netmask.

yeah he has that weird ip

.68.132

I'm not sure why my router picks from that range of IPs, but that's the default. It's definitely the right IP though.

I'm on a Mac, not sure how to find the gateway, any ideas?

Sounds like a default gateway, subnet or DNS problem then.  Make sure all those network settings are correct.

What am I looking for with those settings? Sorry, I'm not very experienced with routers, everything is just set to the defaults (and is working fine for everything else).

Did you see Bitmain has new firmware for it from 2019...

https://service.bitmain.com/support/download?product=AntMiner%20L3%2B

There are also alternative optimzations from Hive Os and others for this miner.  I am looking to see if Bitmain locks your SSH ability with that firmware.  So read up before doing it...but may be as simple as old firmware.

I should have mentioned this earlier, but the guy I bought it from had first flashed it to latest VNISH firmware.

Maybe check the pool website for the current settings port....etc may have changed.
Maybe provide the settings you are using so we can see if there is something incorrect.

Good idea! Let me see if I can attach some screenshots for my litecoinpool settings at least and the Kernal Log.

https://ibb.co/hHDD2HC

https://ibb.co/VLN87tC

The pool you are trying to mine too does not exist.  At least not that i can find anywhere....

Try any of these :

https://miningpoolstats.stream/litecoin

It's #7 on the list on that link you posted. I also tried #5 and #13.

Ack missed it...tried going to their web url resolved to litecoin.org....so yeah pool is there...address matches..but isnt connecting pe your log pic..it states pool connection failed.

Can you login to the pool on the webpage?

Your config looks correct as long as the user id matches (case sensative).  Can you ping the miner on the local network?  did you check the dns settings (8.8.8.8 is a solid dns from google).

Yeah, I can login to the pool webpages fine, just no hashing is going on when I do. I can also connect to the miner on my network without issue and change settings, reboot, etc. It's just for some reason the miner can't connect to any of the pools.
