Re: As a beginner is it too late ?
by
Regana
on 22/03/2018, 15:01:34 UTC
Media is inclined to believe the people interest in Bitcoin is decreasing as the price does, which is after all true. I'm writing this not with the aim of spreading FUD (Oh!! Bitcoin is dead, sell sell sell) but to help understand the reality that Bitcoin is not the same than in 2017.

And in a good way, as a beginner is never late, you may be late for the times where Bitcoin boomed because it became mainstream and part of a fashion (Yes, mainstream trends move billions of dollars). But with the correct expectations you can more than likely learn, be a part of this and make some dollars on the way.

Bitcoin has evolved a lot in regards of institutionalization, acceptation and global awareness, as a result the correction on it's price we see from early 2018.

So this is why I make emphasis on having the right expectations; Bitcoin is here to stay, furthermore, you shouldn't expect to get a 300% ROI within a year.

He has all the right in the world to feel annoyed by the everlasting waves of new users asking & begging for merits everywhere. And whether you like it or not if he made this post to earn merits by himself there is nothing wrong with that as what he is writing is a fact.

Furthermore 'Merit' since it's implementation has been the hottest topic in the forum. Out of the 35 posts I can see in my first page of the 'Meta' subforum 17 include or make reference to 'Merit'.

That is a 48.57% of the most recent Meta discussion in the forum, my suggestion for every single one who wants merit is to go ahead and check what other users are looking for in terms of 'Meritable' quality and also what are people expectations with the system.

Last but not least, new (and not so new) users need to understand that a rank with mere activity means actually NOTHING and spamming is COUNTERPRODUCING for what they want to achieve, you need to be a contributor or at least a funny with keen for detail user who can throw some decent jokes and make others laugh.

In a few words just provide something useful to the forum if you want merit.

That you described seems like a driver crash. Just to be safe, download GPUTemp or a similar software and run your 'working' programs again while tracking the temperature, drivers also can crash when GPU temperature is too high. To fix drivers just make sure to wipe the current installation and install the latest version.

If the issue is related to mining then go ahead and post a question in the mining board as written by 'Potato Chips', if not then post some further information here such as what you are doing when it crashes (i,e what software are you running), your OS version, drivers version and if you experience anything like loud fan noise as well as your GPU temperature.

Re: Is it possible for Newbie to follow Translation Campaign?
by
Regana
on 06/03/2018, 00:04:43 UTC
Just create a portfolio if you don't have. Although you dominate a tongue it doesn't necessarily means you will be selected to translate so a material proof will help you outweight other contesters. You may also want to offer a quick translation of a piece of the thread for further reference, I would appreciate some proactive move like that if I'm running a campaign.

But definitely it is possible for a newbie, your language abilities are not reflected by this forum rank, although you can reach Jr Member rank in a few weeks.

Anything that will give you an advantage against other contenders as well as well dictated examples should matter more than your current rank, at least it would for me if I was running a campaign.

Re: Is there a way to follow a user?
by
Regana
on 01/03/2018, 02:28:56 UTC
As per my understanding 'Watchlist' has content based on your historical activity rather than other users. What you are looking for is listing into your feed what the people you follow a.k.a your 'BitcoinBook' friends post.

This requires an algorithm that takes into consideration the activity of these you follow, I'm not aware of the technical limitations of this forum current implementation but shouldn't be impossible, furthermore a newer version is under development so I wouldn't be surprised if a similar feature is implemented in the short term.

As for use cases what comes to my mind is:

  • Being able to 'suscribe' to good contributors and subject matter experts in different topics.
  • Creating a way to track users popularity which actually does translate to the effort one puts to improve posts quality to gather more 'followers'

And a long etcetera, I know you all are social media users so use cases are gazillions.

Nonetheless this is a forum, old fashioned forum, although there is a lot of brain juice moving around to make this a better place, good suggestion mate I would definitely use that feature.

Through many minutes (ten, maybe eleven) of research I have figured out who nullius is.

Do these quotes sound similar?

Famous person:
“The thing about smart people is that they seem like crazy people to dumb people.”
“However difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at.”
“It matters if you just don't give up.”

nullius:
"In Bitcoinland, as you understand, the systematic denial of private property is bound to raise some ire."
"A truly great idea which could change the world can only be stopped by twisting and distorting it.  This has happened repeatedly in history"
"Bitcoin requires a new mindset.  To handle it, you must understand on a very deep level that mathematical algorithms rule as by divine right"

So.  It's obvious, nullius = Stephen Hawking.

Hello Professor

Suggestion: Let's run a bounty for nullius head, put a juicy reward for the daredevil individual who unveils the identity of this enigmatic member of our community. I'm more inclined to believe he is related to Da Vinci:

“Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return.”
“One can have no smaller or greater mastery than mastery of oneself.”
“The greatest deception men suffer is from their own opinions.”

- You could believe this was written by either.

I even created a bounty sign inspired in the old west, but forgot I cannot upload images. Embarrassed *Yikes*

For instance being able to show such quality is what I look when I post, although I'm not even close to being that knowledgeable, but it still shows Merit system does actually work if you take care about how you express your ideas and you know what you are talking about.

In the sense of mocking others, I do not support that style, if you have something to say about someone else it's a much better choice to make it constructive instead of threatening but whether you like it or not this guy clearly knows his business...

Being able to use special characters such as the example with Cyrillic 'a' (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_(Cyrillic)) in domain names is very dangerous, people attempting to earn others money is increasing every single day. HTTPS doesn't mean anything at all, so if you want to be safe, make sure you:

Bookmark the real wallets & exchanges you use, so you don't have to search and follow links.

Analyze the URL inside the links before following any link, most likely you will detect a fraudulent website if the address looks weird in the bottom left hand of you browser when you hover a link. If you see the URL is not normal, don't follow the link, just access the site via google search or directly type it in the URL bar.

These people is there waiting for any of us, whether experienced internet user or not to make a mistake. The only person who can save you from being scammed is yourself and your judgement.

Re: buy high and sell low. or hold which one is it?
by
Regana
on 22/02/2018, 01:58:25 UTC
after this major price correction. i want to see what are your ideas on this. lets say you bought bitcoin 2 years ago. you notice prices were high at 19,000$ should u sell or continue to hold? what are your thoughts after this huge correction?

it is probably too late to sell after holding since the 19000$ correction.

The answer you will get depends on the type of person who answers. Average holders me included, I believe would have sold before getting into 19k, I would say I found a completely acceptable pricing point at around 15 - 16k. Then you have experienced traders, who can read signals, these guys most likely held until around 19k and sold before the correction (this was completely foreseeable, even for non experienced people).

And then you have the greedy gambler type who most likely held thinking it would reach 30k by mid January.

Definitely is a SELL for me at that point, with an insane ROI as well.

Campaign managers should be accountable for the post quality of these wearing their signature. As per my understanding a certainly *decent* amount of quality is needed in each post to qualify for a payment in signature campaigns.

Shall the manager check each post before payment ? And shall the manager warn/ban these who are not compliant a certain quality (aka Spammers) ?

The answer is Yes. Maybe moderators should warn managers and ban campaigns from the forum if these allow spam instead of removing signature campaigns. Personally I believe these are useful means of advertisement and a powerful tool, the focus should be in preventing quality deviations just for the sake of getting paid.

Re: What Is The Best Btc Wallet?
by
Regana
on 15/02/2018, 14:14:10 UTC
I suggest you to read this thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1631151.0. There you have enough information about wallets to write a book.

Or, just choose the type of wallet you need:

  • Online wallets.
  • Software wallets.
  • Hardware wallets.
  • Paper wallets.

Each has it's advantages and disadvantages, being Online the easiest, although in most websites you don't have actual control over your private key. Hardware wallets are the most expensive but worthy if you hold a decent amount of Bitcoin.

Many people also use a mixture between Software wallets and Paper wallets (keep the papers in safe places).

Using common sense, good judgement and having some understanding on how the wallets & credentials work you should not have issues regardless of your wallet choice.

Is a sticky on 'Beginners and Help' subforum, basically you will find all the information and concepts you need to begin earning BTC. This is a long run though and you will start slow, don't worry and don't try to rush it. If you invest your time wisely you will eventually end up accomplishing your goals.

It's all in the actual word. Merit - Something that deserves or justifies a reward or commendation; a commendable quality, act, etc.: . Although some may think their posts deserve to be merited ultimately is the community who decides whether or not it is going to happen. Consistent contributions to the community will result in a merited account and this is how it's supposed to work.

Re: Bitcoin bubble by Goldman Sachs

I'm not spreading FUD by any means, I'm a firm believer of the cryptocurrencies however I just found something said by Goldman Sachs which actually made sense. Money is flowing unprecedentedly to Bitcoin and other cryptos which are not generating value at the same rate.

My point is that Bitcoin development should go somewhere, and if it doesn't then other cryptocurrency will take it's place naturally.

Bitcoin bubble by Goldman Sachs
by
Regana
on 08/02/2018, 14:52:18 UTC
I know we wouldn't reach to Goldman Sachs for advise in cryptocurrencies, however we can't deny Bitcoin is on a bubble. We are inflating the bubble with huge sums of money while Bitcoin doesn't really change and improve it's technology at the same rate.

Goldman Sachs advisor says 'Today's Cryptocurrencies Will Go to Zero, But Stronger Digital Currencies May Still Emerge' and this time they can be right. And pretty much is okay to relate today's situation with dotcom bubble back in the 2000's.

I can see two ends for this, whether development becomes a priority and actual value and usefulness are created for the big cryptocurrencies we handle right now, or the bubble explodes. If it explodes then a new type of cryptocurrencies will emerge, although I don't believe these would follow Bitcoin principles.
