Re: DogeCoin Potential?

The interesting thing to watch will be how the addition of inflation affects Doge long-term. Most in the crypto scene see inflation as a bad thing, but the deflationary nature of Bitcoin et. al. has been to convert it to an investment vehicle (or gold/silver-style store of value) rather than remain a digital currency (a medium of exchange).

so why this client is an absolute clone of bitcoin?
also why so big hashrate (150MH/s with core 2 duo)?
also why am i mining hashes instead of primes?

i smell fishy about this

it's sha2 and someone's gonna rip it with an asic sooner than you think

Being this delusional...

Ok, I hope you guys not downloading wallet stealers being so keen on binaries...

A quick scan with HiJack this after running the wallet (closed before scanning, though) doesn't reveal anything out of the ordinary on my system. So, at least it doesn't seem to have any surreptitious exe payloads. Pretty sure it's legit, but of course, exercise caution. My wallets don't seem to be tampered with either. I've got them encrypted, too so if they did get stolen, good luck prying them open.

I dont use windows, but I do agree that gatra needs to get the windows wallet out very soon.  It should be a priority if he wants to keep this as a fair launch.

As for a pool, yes needed, no not coming soon.  This is a new PoW and building pool software for it is going to take time.  I'll talk to ypool and beeeer as they are pretty well versed in creating a pool interface for new PoW's

No kidding. I wish I'd kept my Linux partition around now. I could've been mining from the start.

Reward is 0 coins, so ou didn't loose anything  Wink

I know, but it looks like I may not get in on the start of the reward blocks at this point. At least I could've gotten ready. But, I'm just riding the pity-trolley now, so I'll stop. :-)

And it was said that people using cryptos are smarter than your average computer user...

That's assuming they aren't in it for the pump-and-dump "investment."

updates:

- while riecoin.org is down please see riecoin.biz

- official windows wallet not published yet, will be there in some more minutes

- if you execute 'getwork', there is a field called "diff".
That is the length of the primes in bits. Starting difficulty was 304 and in changed to 395 in block 289.
the difficulty reported by getinfo and getmininginfo seems to be always 1, a bug I'll fix in the next release
395/304 = 1.299
The value in getinfo and getmining info is reported as 1 but it really is almost 1.3

thanks for your patience and don't give up!

Can you please clarify "minutes"?  You have said minutes for the last two hours.  I'm not pissed off; it would just be really nice to have an idea of when it will be released.

Good point. I hope the WinWallet gets fixed up soon. If it doesn't, then this is going to be another case of dev-not-prepared-despite-having-plenty-of-time-to-prepare syndrome.

Well, thanks for the update, gatra. Hope you get this thing worked out soon. I know I've said a few snarky things here, but that's frustration coming out. Assuming you get this thing fixed in time for a truly fair launch, then I'll be alright with it.

No pressure! ;-P

I am not that concerned by windows users being out of the competition...

Just morbid curosity here, but why is that, exactly?

    "currentblocksize" : 1000,
    "currentblocktx" : 0,
    "difficulty" : 1,
    "errors" : "",
    "generate" : false,

Wow. How is that possible?

What is with devs of these different coins lying about having windows binaries at launch?

My take on it is that these Linux developers are so smart that tackling windows binaries is easy, until they get to that part.

If so, protest!

Occupy RieCoin!

I suspect they're Linux devs who don't know the ins and outs of Windows development. So, when something goes wrong, they don't know how to fix it quickly.

if 16900 is sec its means more than 4 hour !!!!!!(((
omg, what CPU is it?!

I'm showing only 160khash/sec per core on a 4.2ghs overclocked Core i7 3930. So we're in for a LONG week.

On the upside, that should give us time to get a working Windows wallet before the reward blocks start cashing out.

Okay here's the bottom line.  Your code is suspicious that's why these virus scanners are warning us.  Just think of it this way.  You walk down the street and see the sign "Blood and Crips Territory, Dangerous, Possible chance of losing your life.."  would you continue to use that road or would you heed the warning.

If there's a way to remove the suspicious code, why don't you do it before packaging it for miners.

No, here's the bottom line: it doesn't work that way, and your analogy doesn't apply to this situation. It can only warn you if you have reason to believe the code is infected, or if you have no idea of its pedigree. Since you have an entire forum telling you it's fine (and believe me, I've gotten these same warnings you have, so I know what I'm talking about), then you have an idea of its pedigree, and can be assured that, barring an entire forum's worth of people having traumatic brain injuries, you can stop worrying.

But, to answer your question, no.
