Bitcoin Ranked 13 in China's Blockchain Rating

The CCID Research Institute of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology released on May 17 the first global blockchain technology evaluation index.

The CCID is part of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, a state agency of China. The CCID bridges the government, business, and experts to provide research, evaluation certification, and other professional services.

Cloud computing arm of Amazon will work with a new start-up called Kaleido, which was born out of Consensys, leading blockchain incubator. The company is aiming to give AWS customers an easy way to get into blockchain technology.

Rep. Hong Eui-rak of the ruling Democratic Party of Korea is leading the move championed by 10 other lawmakers. Indian exchange Koinex announced last week that it is delighted to announce the commencement of crypto-to-crypto trading on its platform, elaborating that the company is going live with not just one or two crypto-crypto pairs but with a total of 15 token pairs. SBI Holdings has updated its plans to fully launch a cryptocurrency exchange. The company had planned to launch SBI Virtual Currencies in the autumn of 2017 and at the latest the beginning of 2018. But the plan was postponed following Coincheck’s hack and the trouble with its capital and business alliance agreement with China’s Huobi Group.

The French Council of State announced on Thursday that profits arising from cryptocurrency sales should be considered as capital gains of “movable property” - a decision that will see the tax rate levied drop significantly.

Currently, gains from the sale of cryptocurrency trading are normally considered “industrial and commercial profits” (BIC), while those from occasional transactions are treated as “non-commercial profits.”

Initial coin offerings (ICO) will be a “key focus” for Australia’s corporate watchdog as it looks to update guidance on companies considering raising funds by issuing digital coins or tokens, a top official said on Thursday.

The Australian Securities & Investments Commission intends to update guidance on companies considering raising funds by issuing digital coins or tokens, stating that Initial coin offerings (ICO) will be a “key focus”, Commissioner John Price said on Thursday. Samsung Electronics has reported 58% year-on-year growth in its operating profits for Q1 2018 - an increase driven in part by strong demand for cryptocurrency mining chips.

Robert M. Yi, executive vice president of investor relations of Samsung, said on Thursday that the profitability increase seen in the firm’s semiconductor business played a significant role in setting a new quarterly operating profit record of 15.6 trillion Korean won ($14 billion).

The Cboe intends to change the way it defines the price for bitcoin futures contracts, a move that comes just months after the exchange operator first debuted its inaugural cryptocurrency product.

In a new letter to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) dated April 17, CBOE Future Exchange (CFE) managing director Matthew McFarland announced a proposed rule amendment that would lower the minimum increment on its futures contracts from 10 points (worth $10) to 5 points (worth $5) sometime on or after May 1.
