I think the "95%" figure in this article is severely exaggerated...

BTC-E Is Responsible for Laundering 95% of all Ransomware Proceeds
http://www.newsbtc.com/2017/07/26/btc-e-responsible-laundering-95-ransomware-proceeds/

Total ransomware funds are not very much. It's  not a big deal but it sounds bad.

The universe hates me and you.. all that time spent in the trollbox, all the buying and selling, all for nothing, got goxxed, and now i got btc-ed, fuck my life.

One would think that if you lost funds in gox you wouldn't trust them in the shadiest trading site around.

Don't be ridiculous. Nobody cares what a few people who hold less than five bitcoin say about upcoming market moves. It was CLEAR AS DAY that this price wouldn't last. $2000 was absurd, and will be wiped out. $2700 was a joke, and anyone who didn't clear out their holdings at the top there missed a once in a lifetime chance with this bitcoin thing. There is nothing of value to keep bitcoin high. If something is coming along to replace fiat currency, or be the backbone of an international payment system, it won't be run by hobbyists and gamblers.

Wait. So in your obviously extremely limited understanding of economics you believe that the only way bitcoin price could crash is the end of the worlds financial systems, or that bitcoin crashing would cause that disaster? Bitcoin, the total value of all of it, is not relevant at all. It could disappear and make the news for a day, then be forgotten.

So at what point are you happy with the recovery / profit? You bought in the low 200 range, it was a good time to pick up quite a lot of coin for me as well. Is this price enough for you or do you feel greedy and want to go for the top?

I'm not salty at all. Just wondering how others with medium to large holdings can justify not selling right now.  I'm good, btc did a lot for me.

Really? It wouldn't surprise you if bitcoin hits 5k this year?

Don't take advice from dreamers. Simple.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

Our truest life is when we are in dreams awake.

Don’t let someone who gave up on their dreams talk you out of going after yours.

None of that has to do with taking gambling advice from uneducated people....

Bank of America stock after the housing crisis.  I totally missed out on the early days of bitcoin, but I'm over it.  I did make a decent profit with what little money I have with BAC stock--and they've been increasing their dividend over the years, so there's a little passive income coming in.  I'm really not good at investing.

Another thing was my college education.  That was totally worth it.

^^ I did that one too. I got screwed by timing on the crash but managed to get back in a bunch of these ultra low.

Lets not forget. If the bitcoin price starts to crash this time, the first people out will be the only ones who get the $$. Where do you think cash flow will come from if the network breaks as people try to stuff cold coins into exchanges to cash out? There aren't enough dumb billionaires out there to buy it up for failed projects. How far do you think the price could crash before the exchanges stop letting people cash out? Problems of an unregulated system...

I get that a whole lot of people here are in countries where a few bitcoin could change their lives, but I'm used to different things. It's pretty funny the number of people I see posting here still talking about bitcoin 10k and to the moon. !! It's been the same for years, those people are betting on hope, and not influencing the bitcoin universe.

First we need to remember that during the last 30 days, the prices have increased by almost 100%. So a correction is due very shortly. I am expecting this and therefore will hold on to my coins if a crash happens.

Why would you be holding now if you expect that? If you're right, you can double down. If you're wrong, do you really think it will keep going up and up like this? Which one hurts you more?

I'm watching it dump right now. Maybe it's temporary, but look at the volume. $100 down in minutes? That's another nice car I could have had.

Man just stop crying!
You've got three choices. Go short, buy the god damn dip or go to sleep again if you can't handle it.

What are you talking about? This is a thread about panic selling. You have some unreasonable hope that this won't ever end. I'm done with btc. Made plenty. Don't start attacking me because you can't handle what would happen if your 5 bitcoins went away.

lol, I already said I'm out, but it's funny how paranoid you are. I'm not saying it can't reach 5k. I'm saying is it worth the loss of a car, or a house, if it doesn't?

Forget 2000. This could all drop. 500-1000 down in a matter of hours. The transactions will freeze because the system is already behind, and more and more people will try to sell to get their money out. At prices like 2000, anyone with a significant investment is sitting on the edge of their seat, because losing hundreds of thousands or millions overnight would be devastating.

This had nothing to do with a panic. I made that mistake a few times at the last crazy spike. Your advice of keeping half is irrelevant at this point. It's gone, and keeping half wouldn't be life changing for me, not until it reached btc 10k or more. Why not enjoy it now, not be greedy. I'm not looking for advice on my situation, I've done very well.

I'm asking why people who are keeping a moderate amount of btc, say 100-1000, would be staying in at this point.

btw, it's been years, and bitcoin still isn't really useful for transactions. I still can't get normal people to use it, even for quick exchanges. There might be people doing good stuff with blockchain technology, but that doesn't really require "bitcoin" to work. The few stores that were accepting bitcoin have and are still immediately cashing out because of risk.

It would also be a terribly bad idea for someone to dump more than they could afford to throw away into this now. I've lost basically everything before, it sucks, and it takes a long time to recover. I wasn't going to let that happen again with BTC.
