Right now is a horrible time to be getting into mining.  Like every else mentioned, equipment prices are high,  difficulty for all popular coins that are worth anything is high,  prices of all coins low.

Forget about trying to get rid of the Windows Update Assistant app, it will keep installing itself and running.  Microsoft is not playing around with the updates.  I am going to try the Group Policy edit trick that was posted here.  I am pretty sure that should do the trick.

Hope this isn't too off topic.  But has anyone in the USA changed shipment carriers from UPS to Fedex with Bitmain after a miner has already been ordered and paid for?

Does Fedex charge the same $70+ customs brokerage fee per miner like UPS does?

I ask here because I know A3 owners have recently received their miners from BM.

I ordered 3 batch 1 A3s via all three carriers to three different addresses, only UPS charged a brokerage fee. There were no fee from FedEx or DHL. Out of three UPS had the most expensive shipping fee + $72 brokerage fee.

UPS is a piece of shit.  Double the shipping cost of Fedex plus you have to pay an extra $72 on top of that and they are the last ones to deliver.

Re: Money to invest in mining

If you wait 6 months your 1 Bitcoin will probably be worth $20,000 again or even more.

That is a mistake idiots always do, they mostly sell when a coin loses 40 or more %, never when is high.

If it was me, I would never sell for less than $18k.

I don't think anyone whould be telling him where he should start thinking about selling, when we don't know where he bought in.  But yeah ... I wouldn't sell at 15K, if I bought in at 10K.  And you certainly shouldn't consider selling now, if you bought in at 18K.

But if he acquired that 1 btc for 1K, I'm not going to tell someone that they shouldn't take a profit in fiat.  Maybe not 100%, but do what you feel comfortable with.
I sold my btc when it was at 16k ( I bought it like one year ago ) so I have some money and I would like to invest in eth mining so guys if you have any recommendations please tell me or any other better crypto to mine

Right now is not a good time to get into cpu mining, especially ETH.  Why not just buy ETH coins and wait for it to go up again or even rebuy Bitcoin now that it is down in price.  Video cards and ram are way overpriced right now.  Even motherboards are overpriced.

Another option would be to wait for Bitmain to release a new Asic miner, and make sure you order the very first batch and as many units as you can.  I think that they are going to release a Decred miner soon.

Is the best tactic, for those of us who only have 1-2 A3 miners, to mine up until mid March and then sell the A3 locally before the second batch comes out? Take your profits and then wait for bitmain to release another miner for a new coin and go with that. basically just buy the first batch, sell, wait, buy new miner of a different coin and continue like this for the next few years. To me it seems like the quickest and easiest way to make good profits

That's what I am planning.  But I will get two instead of one of whatever new miner they come out with. And I will use Fedex.  UPS cost twice as much plus $72 fee and they were the last delivered.  F!!! UPS.

by

Well its not a matter of which GPU is the best that you can buy, but what can you find? Not only are most all the cards at least 60% more expensive, they are also sold out. You have 2 choices with an acceptable ROI time involved. Buy a Titan XP from Nvdida for $1200 (Sorry, Star Wars Edition sold out), or Buy a bunch of 1050 ti.

Even the 1050 Ti's are overpriced right now.  They cost as much as what a 1060 6GB used to cost a few months back.  Right now is not a good time to be buying graphics cards unless you find something at msrp.

Thanks man, I am shocked it dropped from 500 to 40 so fast. damn.

We are pretty much screwed.  It will be hard to hit ROI before the next batch is out unless the price of SC goes up.

Wouldn't it make sense for people who ordered in the first batch to jump on another one for $980 to average the cost of the miners?

I had mine up and running since Friday afternoon and have seen the coin rewards drop down to 44.75 coins an hour currently.  I got an offer to sell it and am wondering if I should or just keep mining away.

Just got one and plugged it in last night, after running for around 12 hours I have mined roughly ~2250 SC coins.  I've since changed the frequency a bit and will see updated results... im hashing around 860gh/s average now, and myminerapp says my approximate income should be around 4500 SC coin/day at this time and point.

We will see what happens with the coming weeks.. I dont see it changing too much as most of who already order an A3 already has it up and running.  Once the next batches are made and Obliesks, and HalongMining come out with their machines thats when the real difference in network hashrate will be noticed.

Batch 1 shouldn't see that much more of a dip than it has already gone to...I guarantee almost all A3's shipped out are already up and running at this moment.

I disagree,  there are many machines that are boxed up and waiting to be sold on the second market.  Just look at all the ebay and cragslist posts.  There are resellers who have a bunch of these machines.  Also there are many people who have not received theirs yet.  Mine just came in this morning and I haven't plugged it in because I am waiting for my APW3++ to be ready for pickup at fedex some time today.  So there are still many machines that were sold but have yet to be put to mining.

sold out again LOL . Grin

I can't believe people are eating these up like they did the D3...

It must be new people brought in by the recent hype, who weren't around for the D3.

I kept hearing things like this about the D3 but at the same time I also kept hearing about people doing good with them.

Re: Building 2 Mining rig
by

You should be fine with the dual 1000w PSU option.  I have a 7 card gtx 1070 rig with dual 750w PSU's running fine.  I also have a 7 card 1060 rig on a single 1000w psu.  It looks like you made a mistake with the quantity for the Risers.  You have a quantity of 16 for a 6 pack, which will be a total of 96 risers.  Also you should be looking at cutting costs.  Remember every bit you spend on the rigs is more days that you have to mine before you actually start making a profit.  I would use a cheaper motherboard, cpu and ram.

And lastly, think real hard before jumping in to mining, especially now and dropping that type of cash.  Two 8 card gtx 1070 rigs is going to produce a lot of heat and use up a good amount of electricity running 24/7.  And you will have a lot of down time initially when trying to set things up.

Ethereum difficulty bomb.. let's see would Byz fork solve this.

Yeah, but that's in about three weeks. I sure hope it's going to solve the current difficulty, in the meantime i'm going to mine something else.

Same here.  I was planning on holding out and just sticking to ETH since I figured a lot of miners would jump ship, but after looking at the numbers and what else is out there I am going to switch.  I have a 7 card gtx 1070 rig and a 7 card gtx 1060 6gb rig, so I am thinking of mining either ZCash, Vertcoin or Ubiq.  Either way I am planning on holding the coins for a while to get greater gains.

They also charge $150 for the PSU, so total is actually $2980 and the initial release is November 21st, so you probably will get it closer to December.

I had one in my cart but then came to my senses.  Doesn't seem too smart to put $3k cash into something you won't receive for two months and the difficulty will be increasing in that time.  Better off buying 57 LiteCoins with that money.
