Are there any measures I can take to minimise CPU usage of cpuminer on a Windows 8 machine? Without affecting performance? (don't ask for much do I?)

Elsewhere, I read "You can also try limiting the number of cores it uses with the -t option" but I don't think that applies to Sandor's fork?

I know I should be using a Pi/controller to mine, but I am not. I'm using the only PC I have (an i7 laptop) - its old and probably dirty inside, frazzled the cpu/gpu ages ago. @idle the fan does not come on. But with cpuminer running 24/7 the fan is on constant about 20% speed even though the process is reporting as using less than less than 1% cpu.

I have found the teardown guide for my laptop and in 30 simple steps I can crack it wide open to give a proper clean and repaste the cpu/gpu. Hopefully that will help! I regularly hoover out the ports too.

multi.ghash.io has been down since approx 1PM BST today? Just me?

Cpuminer has fallen to my backup pool but keeps probing multi.ghash.io for life every other minute. Keep getting "stratum_recv_line failed" on multi.ghash.io

I noticed something strange today too on cex/ghash.... my balance is stuck at 0.28433619 for almost 5 hours. Thats not something that usually happens. My hashrate hasn't dropped at all.

I am using their multipool. This is coinciding with a very high (98%) LTC mining time.. when usually LTC is only making up around 30-40% of the mining time.

I'll see what happens in the coming hours and contact their support if required.

Not sure if that would have the desired effect. If both instances are using auto detect, then I think they'll both try to run both gridseeds at the same time - even though you are only specifying the frequency for one specific device (the readme says a default of 600 is applied if nothing is specified). If you're going to run 2 instances you probably need to specify each device rather than use auto detect? Just an idea.

Working with CGMiner? Well I think that means you have to uninstall the WinUSB com ports you installed with Zadig? Because thats the configuration thats needed for CGMiner to work. For CPUMiner you just need to install the Virtual COM port driver. So if its working with CGMiner its not going to work with CPUMiner until you do that. That is my experience, at least.

aChingCoinDev does it work if you bypass the config file and run a minimal .bat file? e.g.

Just start the program as normal and it shows in the log and permanently displays at the top of the display. Its a 12 digit string.

Sandor I tried replacing COM numbers with serials in my BAT file but it didn't seem to work, it just sets everything to 850. My config:

I see a newish commit for Sandor's cpuminer allows you to reference Gridseeds by serial rather than COM assignment. How do you find out the serial for each Gridseed? Thanks in advance.

I haven't been following this thread for a while but when I was, I could not find any photos of the underside of the Gridseed PCB. I took some today, hope this is useful to someone:

Today's build is working great so far Sandor. Initially it hung immediately and the previous build wouldn't then work either as if the gridseeds had frozen up. I power cycled the gridseeds and the new build worked first time. So, probably just me. Not an issue.

FWIW, after 40mins (ghash.io multi pool, 16 diff):

(0.60% rejects ..some caused by me switching wifi connections!)

Does anyone know if its possible to set up idle worker notification on this pool?
EDIT: yes, it is.   found it in the dash options somewhere a few days ago.. can't remember where!

Also I'm a bit puzzled by the concept of multi-coin mining.. if its more profitable than straight LTC mining (and allows auto conversion to LTC for the payout), then what is the point in straight LTC mining?

Whats the best way to enable autotune for just one of my gridseeds? Run it on its own seperate instance of cpuminer until its tuned?

Not really sure (its ghash.io). Since yesterday my balance was increasing every few minutes. But for last 2 hours, nothing. I will contact their support.

I've recently switched to multi coin mining (which auto converts to LTC).

But does this look normal?

For the last hour+ my balance has not been increasing, and in that pool stats you can see even for blocks where I have shares, the payout is 0. Perhaps with only 2 gridseeds it is not feasible to be coin switching? Better stick to one coin (LTC)?

Ah, that makes sense.. I'm on quite dodgy wifi.   My neighbours wifi.. can't afford my own since getting made redundant last year.

On that basis I switched pool to same as you, and after 11 hours I have these stats:

A:24635  R:371  H:13 (1.5% rejects)

1.5% rejects is nothing to worry about I suppose, just wondering why you get 0 rejects.
