I think the only way we can protect ourselves from scam and scammer is by doing a lot of investigation and studying both of the team and the project in every aspect! I know that this require a lot of time and certain skills but this is the only way we can protect ourselves right now.
We should create a shared database where to register scam ICO, project, scammer and other suspicious things. This would be a nice idea I think.

Sometimes white papers are just a copy and paste of other white paper projects. This is a little bit ridiculous.
I read a lot of White Paper and I found a lot of them really interesting but many of them really silly with no sense or even no sens for a token or a blockchain for that particular project.

Nano has the fastest transactions in this space. They use a new technology called block-lattice.
Read their white paper, it is so interesting. I don't want to give you financial advice.

they always pump and dump their coin in order to make profits.
this is unbelievable that so many people are investing in Verge. it doesn't deserve the money of investors.

alts are falling because people are moving from crypto to fiat.
this is not related to only bitcoin fall! the entire market is falling.
Bitcoin is the most important currency... many alts follow the same trend because other factors.

always use wallets from official website.
never share your private key, keep it in a safe place (out of your laptop).
always double check websites ecc...
this few steps should be enough.

If you find very good projects is better invest in ICO than trading.
trading is really really risk. ICOs too. But If you find a good project you can make a lot of money.

personally it depends from the quality of the project.
sometimes isn't worth to hold, sometimes it's worth a lot.
Try to evaluate the project and decide if hold or sell!

3k is almost impossible. A better forecast sees bitcoin bottom at 4.5k level. And this would be a nefarious scenario!
